A high level of EpCAM overexpression in lung cancer makes this protein a promising target for targeted therapy. Radionuclide visualization of EpCAM expression would facilitate the selection of patients potentially benefiting from such treatment. Single-photon computed tomography (SPECT) using Tc-labeled engineered scaffold protein DARPin Ec1 has shown its effectiveness in imaging tumors with overexpression of EpCAM in preclinical studies, providing high contrast just a few hours after injection.

Background And Objectives: The hypothesis of the study was the assumption that the serum levels of soluble ST2 (sST2) and growth differentiation factor (GDF-15) can be predictors of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence in long-term period after primary radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFA).
Methods: Of the 165 patients included in the prospective follow-up, the final analysis included 131 patients whose follow-up duration reached 18 months after the end of the blanking period (3 months after RFA). The median age of patients was 59.

To identify genetic alterations associated with tongue cancer recurrence in young adults, whole exome sequencing of the primary tumor, recurrence, and whole blood samples from young patients with tongue cancer was performed. A frameshift mutation in the TP53 gene was detected in the primary tumor and recurrence tumor tissue. A mutation in the EPHB6 gene was detected in the recurrence and was absent in the primary tumor.

The neuroprotective activity of tryptanthrin and its oxime was compared in male Wistar rats with a model of intraluminal occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. Neurobehavioral tests were performed 4, 24, and 48 h after focal cerebral infarction (FCI) using a modified neurological severity score (mNSS); additionally, the horizontal stability test, the plantar sensitivity test of the fore and hind limbs, holding on the tilted cage top test, and negative geotaxis test were performed. The size of FCI and the severity of brain tissue swelling were examined on day 2 after occlusion.

The thymus represents a primary organ of the immune system, harboring the generation and maturation of T lymphocytes. Starting from childhood, the thymus undergoes involution, being replaced with adipose tissue, and by an advanced age nearly all the thymus parenchyma is represented by adipocytes. This decline of thymic function is associated with compromised maturation and selection of T lymphocytes, which may directly impact the development of inflammation and induce various autoinflammatory disorders, including atherosclerosis.

Squamous cell lung cancer (SCLC) occurs as a result of dysregenerative changes in the bronchial epithelium: basal cell hyperplasia (BCH), squamous cell metaplasia (SM), and dysplasia. We previously suggested that combinations of precancerous changes detected in the small bronchi of patients with SCLC may reflect various "scenarios" of the precancerous process: isolated BCH→stopping at the stage of hyperplasia, BCH+SM→progression of hyperplasia into metaplasia, SM+dysplasia→progression of metaplasia into dysplasia. In this study, DNA methylome of various forms of precancerous changes in the bronchial epithelium of SCLC patients was analyzed using the genome-wide bisulfite sequencing.

Background: Currently, there is no effective therapy for takotsubo syndrome (stress-induced cardiac injury in humans) in the clinics. It has previously been shown that β-adrenergic receptor (β-AR) agonist formoterol reduces cardiomyocyte injury in experimental takotsubo syndrome.

Substances of silver nanoparticles dialyzed through a 13 kDa membrane, synthesized in a medium of humic ligands modified with hydroquinone and 2-hydroxynaphthoquinone from PowHumus brown coal, specifically enhance the M2 properties of peritoneal macrophages due to inhibition of NO synthase and significant activation of arginase, thus enhancing anti-inflammatory properties of cells. In small, but effective concentrations, they do not have cytotoxic properties and do not contain pyrogenic impurities. The studied humates are able to influence the mechanisms of immune response formation and are an effective means for correcting inflammation and regeneration.

We studied the respiratory activity of mitochondria in peripheral blood leukocytes from 36 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and a history of ventricular tachyarrhythmias required cardioverter-defibrillator implantation. The measurements were carried out in incubation buffers with different oxidation substrates (succinate and pyruvate-malate mixture). In pyruvate-malate incubation buffer, oxygen consumption rate and respiratory control coefficients in patients with triggered device did not differ significantly from those in patients without cardioverter-defibrillator triggering.
