In this study, new stimuli - responsive hybrid hydrogels were achieved via succinylated cellulose nanocrystals (Su-CNC). The innovation was concerned with the inclusion of Su-CNC, at different degree of substitution (DS), into hydrogel network to render it pH and thermo-responsive characters through free radical polymerization reaction with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm). The prepared hydrogel was also examined for the in vitro release of Famotidine at different pH values.

Carbon quantum dots "CQDs" were investigated as photo-luminescent nanomaterials as it advantageous with nontoxicity to be alternative for metallic-nanomaterials in different purposes. Developing a multifunctional wound dressing that protects, cures and indicates the healing progress, is a new approach of investigation. Red cabbage extract (RCE), consisting of bioactive compounds that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, bactericidal, antifungal, and antiviral activities, was utilized as a natural pH-sensitive indicator. Chitosan-based hydrogel, encapsulating RCE, was developed to obtain a smart therapeutic pH-sensitive wound dressing as antimicrobial bio-matrix provides a comfortable cushion for wound bed and indicates its status.

The compatibility of homo-metallic and hetero-metallic bio-composite was promisingly investigated as recyclable catalyst for prothiofos hydrolysis. Chitin as water insoluble biopolymer was functionalized as a template for generation of homo-metallic (Ag@chitin, Au@chitin and Pd@chitin) and hetero-metallic (Au@Ag@chitin, Pd@Ag@chitin and Pd@Au@Ag@chitin) composites, by using melt intercalation technique. Investigation of the compatibility of the synthesized homo-metallic and hetero-metallic bio-composites in hydrolysis of prothiofos was performed and affirmed via HPLC results.

Marine endophytic fungi from under-explored locations are a promising source for the discovery of new bioactivities. Different endophytic fungi were isolated from plants and marine organisms collected from Wadi El-Natrun saline lakes and the Red Sea near Hurghada, Egypt. The isolated strains were grown on three different media, and their ethyl acetate crude extracts were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity against a panel of pathogenic bacteria and fungi as well as their antioxidant properties.

Arylidene hydrazinyl based on Pyrido[2,3-]pyrimidin-4-one analoges prepared by the treatment of [2,3-]pyrimidin-4-ones , with various aromatic aldehydes. The antimicrobial action for recently synthesized compounds was considered towards gram positive bacterial species ( ATCC- 47077; ATCC-12228), gram negative bacterial species ( ATCC-25922; ATCC-15566) and ATCC-10231 as fungal strains.
