A nanocomposite of iron barium titanate/NiFeO (FBT/NF) was synthesized using sol-gel techniques to form organized hexagonal structures. The effects of NiFeO nanostructures on FBT's phase purity, morphology, and dielectric properties were systematically explored and intensively discussed. TEM imaging confirmed the hexagonal structure, and electrical measurements revealed that para-electric NF influenced the conductivity and impedance of ferroelectric FBT, with a shift in Curie temperature to lower values.

For drug delivery applications, silica nanoemulsion encapsulated with organic compounds are becoming increasingly more desirable. Therefore, the emphasis of this research was on the synthesis of a new potent antifungal drug-like candidate (1,1'-((sulfonylbis(4,1-phenylene)bis(5-methyl-1-1,2,3-triazole-1,4-diyl))bis(3-(dimethylamino)prop-2-en-1-one), SBDMP), the chemical structure of which was confirmed on the basis of its spectral and microanalytical data. Then, silica nanoemulsion loaded with SBDMP was prepared using Pluronic F-68 as a potent surfactant.

To identify antimicrobial leads for medical applications, metabolites from the aerial part of were extracted and chromatographically purified. Two new sesquiterpenes, 1β,8α-dihydroxyeudesm-4-en-6β,7α,11βH-12,6-olide (1) and 1β,6α,8α-trihydroxy, 11α-methyl-eudesma-4(15)-en-13-propanoate (2) along with a known eudesmanolide 11--artapshin (3) were identified. Structures were determined by spectroscopic methods including 1D- and 2D-NMR as well as mass spectroscopy.

GeSn compounds have made many interesting contributions in photodetectors (PDs) over the last ten years, as they have a detection limit in the NIR and mid-IR region. Sn incorporation in Ge alters the cut off wavelength. In the present article, p-i-n structures based on GeSn junctions were fabricated to serve as PDs.

In this paper we describe the preparation of a new bionanocomposite based on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), Arabic gum (AG) and gelatin (GL), incorporating garlic extract (GE) and TiO nanoparticles (TiO-NPs). The prepared bionanocomposites were evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and were evaluated for their antimicrobial effect. The permeability and thermal and mechanical properties of the films were assessed.

The chemical characterization of the extract of the aerial parts of afforded two oxetane containing lignans, paronychiarabicine A (1) and B (2), and one new megastigmane, paronychiarabicastigmane A (3), alongside a known lignan (4), eight known phenolic compounds (5-12), one known elemene sesquiterpene (13) and one steroid glycoside (14). The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were constructed based upon the HRMS, 1D, and 2D-NMR results. The absolute configurations were established NOESY experiments as well as experimental and TDDFT-calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD).

Multitarget-directed drugs (hybrid drugs) constitute an efficient avenue for the treatment of multifactorial diseases. In this work, novel naphthalene hybrids with different heterocyclic scaffolds such as nicotinonitrile, pyran, pyranopyrazole, pyrazole, pyrazolopyridine, and azepine were efficiently synthesized tandem reactions of 3-formyl-4-benzo[]chromen-4-one 1 with different nucleophilic reagents. Analysis of these hybrids using PASS online software indicated different predicted biological activities such as anticancer, antimicrobial, antiviral, antiprotozoal, anti-inflammatory, By focusing on antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and antituberculosis activities, many compounds revealed remarkable activities.

Article Synopsis
  • Morbidity and mortality from hepatitis C virus (HCV) are major global health issues, leading to a push for better therapies and new drugs focused on HCV NS3/A4 protease as a therapeutic target.
  • Recent studies indicate that benzoquinazolines are effective antiviral agents and can inhibit the HCV NS3/4A protease, with several compounds showing promising results in terms of inhibition strength compared to existing drugs.
  • The study includes molecular docking to analyze how these compounds bind to the NS3/4A enzyme and employs quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models to predict and understand the effectiveness of these new inhibitors.

Natural fibre-polymer adhesion can be improved by treating the fibre surface or polymer. In this study, resorcinol-hexamethylenetetramine mixture (R-HMT) is used as a chemical treatment for kenaf fibre waste to extend the interfacial adhesion between the fibre-polystyrene matrices. The effect of the untreated and treated kenaf fibre (designated as UK and TK fibre) on the thermal (DSC), viscoelastic, mechanical, hydrophobicity, and barrier properties of polystyrene (PS) was studied.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have become known as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial activity of AgNPs is dependent on the particle size and the dispersion status. In this study, a simple and effective approach is developed for sequestering the biosynthesized AgNPs in silica composites during the gel formation of MCM-41.
