The E6 and E7 proteins of the high risk human papillomaviruses (HR HPVs) play a key role in the oncogenesis associated with papillomavirus infection. Data on the variability of these proteins are limited, and the factors affecting their variability are still poorly understood. We analyzed the variability of the currently known sequences of the HPV type 16 (HPV16) E6 and E7 proteins, taking into account their geographic origin and year of sample collection, as well as the direction of their evolution in the major geographic regions of the world.

Electronic address:

Background: Preimplantation genetic testing for chromosomal structural rearrangements (PGT-SR) has been widely utilized to select euploid embryos in patients carrying balanced chromosomal rearrangements (BCRs) by chromosome copy number analysis. However, reliable and extensively validated PGT-SR methods for selecting embryos without BCRs in large-cohort studies are lacking.

Methods: In this prospective, multicenter, cohort study, carriers with BCRs undergoing PGT-SR were recruited across 12 academic fertility centers within China.

The bony fish Danio rerio (zebrafish) has become one of the important vertebrate model organisms in biomedical cancer research and is used, among other things, for the development of anticancer drugs using xenotransplantation approaches. The ex utero development of zebrafish, optically transparent tissues in the first month of growth, and the immature adaptive immune system during this period greatly facilitate the manipulation of embryos. For highly aggressive cancers where patient survival may be expected to be only a few months, a zebrafish xenograft assay may be the only appropriate method as it requires only four to seven days.

Malaria remains a major public health threat in Burkina Faso, as in most sub-Saharan Africa countries. Malaria control relies mainly on long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying. In Burkina Faso, an escalating of insecticide resistance has been observed over the last decades.

Pink biofilm formation on stone monuments and mural paintings poses serious harm to cultural heritage preservation. Pink biofilms are globally widespread and recalcitrant to eradication, often causing recurrences after restoration. Yet, the ecological drivers of pink biofilm formation and the metabolic functions sustaining the growth of pigment-producing biodeteriogens remain unclear.

High carbohydrate availability promotes malic acid accumulation in fleshy fruits, but the underlying mechanism is not known. Here, we show that antisense repression of ALDOSE-6-PHOSPHATE REDUCTASE in apple (Malus domestica) decreases the concentrations of sorbitol and malate and the transcript levels of several genes involved in vacuolar malate transport, including the aluminum-activated malate transporter (ALMT) gene MdALMT9 (Ma1), the P-ATPase gene MdPH5, the MYB transcription factor gene MdMYB73, and the cold-induced basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor gene MdCIbHLH1, in fruit and leaves. We identified a linker histone H1 variant, MdH1.

Various acupuncture clinical trials have been conducted on migraine; however, the conclusions remain controversial especially when acupuncture was compared with sham acupuncture. Sham acupuncture is sometimes performed at the same acupuncture points used for verum acupuncture despite the evidence on acupuncture point specificity. Four databases were searched for sham acupuncture or waiting list-controlled acupuncture trials for migraine on December 25, 2023.

Revealing Single-Molecule Photocurrent Generation Mechanisms under On- and Off-Resonance Excitation.

Nano Lett

December 2024

Hefei National Research Center for Physical Sciences at the Microscale and CAS Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui 230026, China.

We investigate photocurrent generation mechanisms in a pentacene single-molecule junction using subnanometer resolved photocurrent imaging under both on- and off-resonance laser excitation. By employing a wavelength-tunable laser combined with a lock-in technique, net photocurrent signals are extracted to elucidate photoinduced electron tunneling processes. Under off-resonance excitation, photocurrents are found to arise from photon-assisted tunneling, with contributions from three distinct frontier molecular orbitals at different bias voltages.

Fluorination from Surface to Bulk Stabilizing High Nickel Cathode Materials with Outstanding Electrochemical Performance.

December 2024

Hefei National Research Center for Physical Sciences at the Microscale, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, CAS Key Laboratory of Materials for Energy Conversion, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui, 230026, China.

High nickel layered oxides provide high energy densities as cathodes for next-generation batteries. However, critical issues such as capacity fading and voltage decay, which derive from labile surface reactivity and phase transition, especially under high-rate high-voltage conditions, prevent their commercialization. Here we propose a fluorination strategy to simultaneously introduce F atoms into oxygen layer and create a F aggregated interface.

During biosimilar drug development, conducting a clinical trial of biosimilar efficacy in patients may become necessary in the presence of residual uncertainty regarding the biosimilarity of the drugs. In the development of the biosimilar romiplostim GP40141, we aimed to use a model-based in silico clinical trial (ISCT) approach to optimize the planned biosimilar efficacy trial in patients with immune thrombocytopenia. The population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model for healthy volunteers was modified and validated to describe platelet dynamics in patients with immune thrombocytopenia.

Bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance represent significant global public health challenges, necessitating the development of innovative antibacterial agents with targeted delivery capabilities. Our study utilized macrophages' natural ability to recognize bacteria and the increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) at infection sites to develop a novel nanoparticle for targeted delivery and controlled release. We prepared bacteria-activated macrophage membranes triggered by Staphylococcus aureus (Sa-MMs), which showed significantly higher expression of Toll-like receptors (TLRs), compared to normal macrophage membranes (MMs).

Increased thyroid cancer incidence has been one of the principal adverse health effects of the Chornobyl (Chernobyl) nuclear power plant accident. Accurate dose estimation is critical for assessing the radiation dose-response relationship. Current dosimetry estimates for individuals from the Chornobyl Tissue Bank (CTB) are based only on the limited information on their places of residence at the time of the accident and/or at the time of surgery for thyroid cancer.

Pair-Soil-Spectra: An Approach for NIRS-Based Soil Total Nitrogen Content Detection with Feature Metrics in Cases of Small Sample Sizes.

Anal Chem

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Agricultural Sensors, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Beijing 100097, China.

Soil total nitrogen (STN) plays an important role in plant growth, and rapid and nondestructive detection of STN content is essential for agricultural production. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) takes advantage of the fast detection speed, low cost, and nondestructiveness, and it can be used for STN content detection. Typically, NIRS-based approaches require a large number of samples for detection model training.

Catalysis under electric-/magnetic-/electromagnetic-field coupling.

The ultimate goal of catalysis is to control the cleavage and formation of chemical bonds at the molecular or even atomic level, enabling the customization of catalytic products. The essence of chemical bonding is the electromagnetic interaction between atoms, which makes it possible to directly manipulate the dynamic behavior of molecules and electrons in catalytic processes using external electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields. In this tutorial review, we first introduce the feasibility and importance of field effects in regulating catalytic reaction processes and then outline the basic principles of electric-/magnetic-/electromagnetic-field interaction with matter, respectively.
