In the frame of the European (EU) Pathways Project, the aim of the study is to compare existing strategies (policies, systems, and services) for professional (re-)integration of PwCDs and mental health conditions available at both European and national level between different European welfare models: Scandinavian, Continental, Anglo-Saxon, Mediterranean, and “Post-Communist”. : The European strategies were identified by an overview of relevant academic and grey literature searched through Medline and internet searches, while national strategies were explored through questionnaires and in-depth interviews with national relevant stakeholders.

Background: KARS encodes lysyl- transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) synthetase, which catalyzes the aminoacylation of tRNA-Lys in the cytoplasm and mitochondria. Eleven families/sporadic patients and 16 different mutations in KARS have been reported to date. Ependymomas (EPs) are tumors of the brain and spinal cord constituting ∼10% of the childhood central nervous system neoplasms and about 30% in children aged <3 years. Their anatomic distribution varies according to the age, with those arising in the supratentorial (ST) compartment, spinal cord being more common in older children and adults, and those at the infratentorial location are more common and occurring more frequently in infants and children. Objective: To explore the course of Unverricht-Lundborg disease (EPM1) and identify the risk factors for severity, we investigated the time course of symptoms and prognostic factors already detectable near to disease onset.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the features of 59 Italian patients carrying the expansion mutation, and coded the information every 5 years after the disease onset in order to describe the cumulative time-dependent probability of reaching disabling myoclonus, relevant cognitive impairment, and inability to work, and evaluated the influence of early factors using the log-rank test. The risk factors were included in a Cox multivariate proportional hazards regression model.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an hereditary disorder characterized by abnormal proliferation of multiple tissues of neural crest origin, and presents mainly with multiple café-au-lait macules, axillary freckling and neurofibromas. Choroidal involvement in NF1 patients has been studied, thanks to the development of non-invasive tools such as infrared monochromatic light during fundus examination, which showed bright patchy lesions consistent with choroidal nodules. Choroidal abnormalities identified with near-infrared reflectance have reported with a frequency of up to 100% in NF1, and have been recently been proposed as a novel diagnostic criterion for NF1.
