Toxoplasmosis is a global health problem affecting both human and animal populations. The lack of effective treatment makes the development of a vaccine against toxoplasmosis one of the main goals in the management of this disease. In our study, vaccine formulations containing the multistage recombinant antigens, rBAG1 + rGRA1 were developed with a combined adjuvant system consisting of chitosan and Salmonella Typhi porins in micro (MicroAS) and nanoparticulate (NanoAS) forms.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is an RNA virus that is transmitted faeco-orally. Due to unhygienic living conditions and unsatisfactory treatment of drinking water, it is a major cause of acute viral hepatitis in Pakistan. Hepatitis E infection in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency may cause prolonged jaundice resulting in serious complications like, severe haemolysis, acute renal failure, encephalopathy and even demise.

Background: Informing about permanent deferral requires a process that links the notifier with the donor in a particular way. Little is known about the type of information and how it is disclosed to the donors. The current study aimed to examine perceptions and practices of notifier and blood donor within the framework of the notification process of permanent deferral and from the perspective of the notifier-blood donor relationship.

Cirrhosis is characterised by a prolonged asymptomatic period in which the inflammation persists, increasing as the disease progresses. Characteristic of this is the increase in pro-inflammatory cytokines and pro-oxidant molecules which are determining factors in the development of multiple organ dysfunction. In the early development of cirrhosis, splanchnic arterial vasodilation, activation of vasoconstrictor systems (renin-angiotensin-aldosterone) and the sympathetic nervous system (noradrenaline) bring about bacterial translocation and systemic dissemination via portal circulation of bacterial products, and molecular patterns associated with damage, which exacerbate the systemic inflammation present in the patient with cirrhosis.

Background: The Education and Training Centre for Public Healthcare of the National Medical Centre plays a key role in providing continuing professional development (CPD) to 221 public health and medical institutions in South Korea. To assess the realization of the Centre's core value and the intended changes, program evaluations are required. The context, input, process, and product (CIPP) model is particularly suitable for evaluating CPD in the public sector, as it allows for recognizing the dynamic nature of the program environment.

Brain metastases comprise 40% of all metastatic tumours and breast tumours are among the tumours that most commonly metastasise to the brain, the role that epigenetic gene dysregulation plays in this process is not well understood. We carried out 450 K methylation array analysis to investigate epigenetically dysregulated genes in breast to brain metastases (BBM) compared to normal breast tissues (BN) and primary breast tumours (BP). For this, we referenced 450 K methylation data for BBM tumours prepared in our laboratory with BN and BP from The Cancer Genome Atlas.

Background: Albumin, along with other proteins, is abnormally eliminated via the urine during early stages of diabetic nephropathy. Moreover, endothelial dysfunction (ED) accompanying early diabetic nephropathy may develop even before microalbuminuria is detectable. Transferrin has a molecular weight comparable to albumin, whereas transferrinuria and microalbuminuria in a 24-h urine sample may comparably reflect early diabetic nephropathy.

Severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG) is defined as plasma triglycerides >1000 mg/dl. It is a rare and understudied condition in children and adolescents. SHTG in pediatric patients may occur as a result of certain genetic disorders of enzymes involved in triglyceride synthesis and metabolism, or it may be seen secondary to uncontrolled diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, or certain medications.

Background: Nasopharyngeal (NP) colonization with Streptococcus pneumoniae and non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is common in children, and may evolve as the source of invasive infections. In Korea, the pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) were introduced >10 years ago, enabling the authors to study the effect of the vaccine in preventing carriage.
Methods: NP swabs were taken and a household survey was conducted at daycare centres located in different regions of Korea in 2014 and 2019.

Colorectal cancer often presents as a highly variable disease with myriad forms that are at times difficult to detect in early screenings with sufficient accuracy, for which novel diagnostic methods are an attractive and valuable area of improvement. To improve colorectal cancer diagnosis and prognosis, new biomarkers that can be assembled into a diagnostic panel must be identified, and tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) are a particularly interesting and increasingly visible new class of molecules to examine. In this study, small RNA-seq data were profiled for the expression of 104 human tsRNAs in tumor tissue and adjacent normal tissue samples, and a diagnostic model was built based on four differentially expressed tsRNAs: tRF-22-WB86Q3P92, tRF-22-WE8SPOX52, tRF-22-WE8S68L52, tRF-18-8R1546D2.

Because of its marked association with metabolic syndrome, type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease, NAFLD has gained substantial focus recently. Its prevalence and incidence are on the rise in Pakistan.

Clinical tests based on whole-genome sequencing are generally focused on a single task approach, testing one or several parameters, although whole-genome sequencing (WGS) provides us with large data sets that can be used for many supportive analyses. In spite of low genome coverage, data of WGS-based non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) contain fully sequenced mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). This mtDNA can be used for variant calling, ancestry analysis, population studies and other approaches that extend NIPT functionality.

Background: Cancer is one of the life-threatening diseases which is affecting a large number of population worldwide. Cancer cells multiply inside the body without showing much symptoms on the surface of the skin, thereby making it difficult to predict and detect the onset of the disease. Many organizations are working towards automating the process of cancer detection with minimal false detection rates.

Rationale, Aims And Objectives: New therapies are increasingly approved by regulatory agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) based on testing in non-randomized clinical trials. These treatments have typically displayed "dramatic effects" (ie, effects that are considered large enough to obviate the combined effects of biases and random errors that may affect the study results). The agencies, however, have not identified how large these effects should be to avoid the need for further testing in randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Objective: To examined the impact of reproductive factors on the relationship between radiation treatment (RT) for a first breast cancer and risk of contralateral breast cancer (CBC).
Methods: The Women's Environmental Cancer and Radiation Epidemiology (WECARE) Study is a multi-center, population-based case-control study where cases are women with asynchronous CBC (N = 1521) and controls are women with unilateral breast cancer (N = 2211). Rate ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using conditional logistic regression to assess the independent and joint effects of RT (ever/never and location-specific stray radiation dose to the contralateral breast [0, >0-<1Gy, ≥1Gy]) and reproductive factors (e.

Kidney transplant (KT) is the first therapeutic option for most patients with chronic renal failure that requires renal function replacement. The main complication associated with renal graft loss is immune rejection. The T regulatory pathways play a key role in this process, and abnormalities in some of these molecules could participate in the graft rejection.
