Objective: . A previously reported experiment indicated that Arabidopsis thaliana seeds with cryptochrome mutation His-CRY2 showed more robust photomorphogenic growth when hydrated with intentionally treated water as compared to untreated water. The present study attempted to replicate that outcome, adding a condition where the seeds were also intentionally treated.

The industrial wastewater disposal has been growing attention for environmental protection and resource substitution, current decades. Similarly, the durability enhancement of concrete has increased attention by microbial induced CaCO precipitation (MICP) process (biocalcification). However, ecofriendly utilization of industrial wastewater in concrete formation is unstudied so far.

A rapid, simple, and sensitive technique for the quantitative detection of fluoxetine and norfluoxetine enantiomers in biological fluids was developed based on the combination of field-amplified sample stacking (FASS)-related capillary electrophoresis (CE) with ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (UA-DLLME). The extraction efficiency of UA-DLLME was strongly related to extraction time, salt concentration, type of extraction and dispersion solvents, and volume of extraction and dispersion solvents. The extracted fluoxetine and norfluoxetine enantiomers in a mixture of 50% methanol and 50% deionized water were efficiently stacked using FASS and then separated using cyclodextrin-modified CE.

Dengue virus (DENV)-mediated hair loss is one of the post-dengue fatigue syndromes and its pathophysiology remains unknown. Whether long-term or persistent infection with DENV in the scalp results in hair loss is unclear. In this study, we cultured human dermal fibroblasts (WS1 cells) and primary human hair-follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs) in the long term with DENV-2 infection.

Excited conduction electrons, conduction holes, and valence holes in monolayer electron-doped graphene exhibit unusual Coulomb decay rates. The deexcitation processes are studied using the screened exchange energy. They might utilize the intraband and interband single-particle excitations, as well as the plasmon modes, depending on the quasiparticle states and the Fermi energies.

Background: In recent years, researchers have been paying increasing attention to the issues of how emotions affect people's perceptions of the environment, and how they influence people's behavior or intentions to act. The purpose of this study is to explore the influences of emotions on environmental intention to act by using the neuroscience technology electroencephalography (EEG).
Methods: A total of 70 university students participated in this study.

Background: The signing of do-not-resuscitate (DNR) consent is mandatory in providing a palliative approach in the end-of-life care for the terminally ill patients and requires an effective communication between the physician and the patients or their family members. This study aimed to investigate the association between the communication skills of physicians who participated in the SHARE (supportive environment, how to deliver the bad news, additional information, reassurance, and emotional support) model course on the patient notification and the signing of do-not-resuscitate (DNR) consent by the terminally ill patients at emergency rooms.
Methods: Between May 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018, a total of 109 terminally ill patients were enrolled in this study, of which 70 had signed a DNR and 39 had not.

In this study, a rapid, inexpensive and convenient microwave assisted synthesis of indole-3-propionic acid-bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (IPA-SR3) fluorescent probe was developed. This fluorescent probe has the dual illumination characteristics of photoinduced electron transfer and aggregation-induced emission for the specific detection of Cu ion in water. The wavelength-dependent photoluminescence behavior of the aggregated IPA-SR3 was highly selective (Ksv = 1.

The occurrence of emergent contaminants, 24 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), dimethyl phthalate (DMP), di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP), bisphenol A (BPA) and nonylphenol (NP), was investigated in sediments and fishes collected from the Tamsui River system to determine the factors that influence their distribution and their risk to aquatic ecosystems and human health. The concentrations of total PBDEs, DEHP, DBP, BBP, DEP, DMP, DnOP, BPA and NP in sediments were 1-955, ND-23570, <50-411, <50-430, ND-80, ND-<50, ND-<50, 1-144, 3-19624 μg/kg dw, respectively. The spatial-temporal distribution trends of these compounds in sediments could be attributed to urbanization, industrial discharge and effluents from wastewater treatment plants.

Introduction: Purpuric drug eruption (PDE) is an uncommon, clinically distinct side effect of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors.
Patient Concerns: Unlike acneiform eruption, which arises from hair follicles mainly in the head and neck area, PDE starts from xerosis cutis, primarily in the lower extremities and is not associated with hair follicles. Herein, we report 3 cases of 3 patients who had received EGFR inhibitor and were hospitalized for PDE later.

Plant pathogens secrete proteins called effectors into the cells of their host to modulate the host immune response against colonization. Effectors can either modify or arrest host target proteins to sabotage the signaling pathway, and therefore are considered potential drug targets for crop disease control. In earlier research, the type III effector XopAI was predicted to be a member of the arginine-specific mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase family.

New Findings: What is the central question of this study? Does regular exercise have benefits with regard to the neurocognitive problems related to obesity and are regular-exercise-induced neurocognitive changes associated with changes in the levels of metabolic/inflammatory biomarkers? What is the main finding and its importance? Although obese individuals with regular exercise showed higher C-reactive protein levels as compared to the healthy-weight individuals, only the obese individuals with a sedentary lifestyle showed deviant neurocognitive performance and higher metabolic and tumour necrosis factor-α levels. The P3 amplitude was correlated with the levels of leptin in the obese individuals with regular activity, implicating that the potential mechanism of neurocognitive facilitation as a result of regular exercise could be reduced serum leptin levels.
Abstract: Obesity has been shown to be highly associated with deterioration in executive functions, elevated energy metabolic indices and low-grade systemic inflammation.

Conditioned medium derived from ischemic myocardium improves rodent cardiac function after myocardial infarction. Exosomal miRNA-mediated intercellular communication is considered to mediate the protective effect of conditioned medium against ischemic injury. Oxygen-glucose-deprivation (OGD)-treated cardiac cells and a rat model with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) were applied.

Background: Zinc plays a vital antioxidant role in human metabolism. Recent studies have demonstrated a correlation between noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and oxidative injury; however, no investigation has focused specifically on the subgroup of NIHL associated tinnitus patients. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of zinc supplementation in treating NIHL associated tinnitus.
