Parkinsonian syndromes are considered clinicopathological conditions that are challenging to diagnose. Molecular imaging with [18F]-FDOPA and [18F]-FDG contributes to a more accurate clinical diagnosis by evaluating presynaptic dopaminergic pathways and glucose metabolism, respectively. The aim of this study was to correlate diagnoses made from dual PET/CT with the initial clinical diagnoses, as well as during follow-ups in patients with Parkinsonian syndromes.

The Coanda effect is a fluid dynamics phenomenon in which a fluid jet adheres to a convex or flat surface. This effect occurs when a liquid or gas jet emerging from an orifice clings to an adjacent surface and entrains the surrounding fluid, creating a lower-pressure region along its path that maintains its attachment to the surface. The Coanda effect accounts for the behavior of blood flow in the fetal right atrium and the dispersion of eccentric mitral regurgitation jets along atrial walls.

Background: Experimental models of neurocysticercosis (NCC) are helpful for an improved understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of human diseases and for testing novel therapeutic approaches. Controlling inflammation without reducing the effectiveness of anthelmintics is an important challenge in treating neurocysticercosis. This study investigates the effects of currently used drugs (Albendazole and Dexamethasone) in treating murine extraparenchymal NCC.

Introduction: Traumatic memories (TM) are a core feature of stress-related disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Treatment is often difficult, and specific pharmacological interventions are lacking. We present a novel non-pharmacological intervention called motor interference therapy (MIT) as a promising alternative for these symptoms.

Background: Little is known about the relationship between parkinsonism or Parkinson's disease (PD) and frailty in Latin America.
Objective: The study aimed to determine the cross-sectional and prospective associations between parkinsonism and PD with frailty in a large multi-country cohort in Latin America. Frailty was assessed using three different models to explore which definitions are more appropriate to screen for frailty in a PD population.

Unlabelled: Introduction-Aim: Assessment of patient safety culture is important for enhancing hospital service quality and clinical outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the safety of patient culture among health professionals in a neurological institute, in order to identify areas of improvement. The second objective of our study was to determine the influence of the sociodemographic data of the participants on the awareness of patient safety.

Cranial retained surgical sponges, known as "gossypiboma" or "textiloma", represent a rare but potentially severe complication following surgical procedures. While it is infrequent, it poses a significant risk, particularly in delicate surgical settings such as neurosurgery. The inadvertent retention of cotton balls or surgical gauzes may cause localized inflammation, infection, abscess, or neurologic sequelae.

Introduction: Metastasis to the conus medullaris (CM) is a rare but devastating condition. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, treatment options, and outcomes of patients with CM metastasis. By synthesizing the available evidence, this study seeks to improve our understanding of this condition and inform clinical practice.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune neurological disease characterized by the recurrent appearance of demyelinating lesions and progressive disability. Currently, there are multiple disease-modifying treatments, however, there is a significant need to develop new therapeutic targets, especially for the progressive forms of the disease. This review article provides an overview of the most recent studies aimed at understanding the inflammatory processes that are activated in response to the accumulation of kynurenine pathway (KP) metabolites, which exacerbate an imbalance between immune system cells (e.

Background: The serum levels of presepsin correlate with parameters indicating cholestasis in sepsis; however, the probability and significance of this association remain uncertain. We aimed to ascertain whether infection, as signaled by presepsin levels, is the primary determinant of elevated biliary parameters in sepsis.
Methods: A unicenter, retrospective study included 396 COVID-free emergency-admitted patients, in which presepsin level was determined.

Intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) has witnessed significant growth in the field of neurosurgery, particularly in glioma surgery, enhancing image-guided neuronavigation and optimizing the extent of resection (EOR). Despite its extensive use in the treatment of gliomas, its utility in brain metastases (BMs) remains unexplored. This study examined the effect of iMRI on BM resection.

Epidemiological studies and meta-analyses have shown a strong association between high seroprevalence of () and schizophrenia. Schizophrenic patients showed higher levels of anti-Toxoplasma immunoglobulins M and G (IgM and IgG) when compared to healthy controls. Previously, in a rat model, we demonstrated that the progeny of mothers immunized with lysates before gestation had behavioral and social impairments during adulthood.

Leukodystrophies comprise a spectrum of genetic disorders affecting white matter (WM) formation in the central nervous system (CNS), of which vanishing white matter disease (VWMD) is one. VWMD presents with progressive neurological deterioration and a variety of manifestations. Ovarioleukodystrophy, a subtype of VWMD, exhibits a distinctive clinical profile encompassing both CNS WM alterations and ovarian dysfunction.

Background And Aims: Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) can help in the diagnosis of thrombus within the vessel in acute ischemic stroke, known as susceptibility vessel sign (SVS), and detection of SVS within the vessel can predict treatment modality and outcome. In this study, the purpose is to correlate the SVS on SWI with different parameters of stroke.
Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study enrolled consecutive stroke patients with vessel occlusion on magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) over 1 year.

Acoustic, lexical, and syntactic information are simultaneously processed in the brain requiring complex strategies to distinguish their electrophysiological activity. Capitalizing on previous works that factor out acoustic information, we could concentrate on the lexical and syntactic contribution to language processing by testing competing statistical models. We exploited electroencephalographic recordings and compared different surprisal models selectively involving lexical information, part of speech, or syntactic structures in various combinations.

The clinical features of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) are heterogeneous. Furthermore, therapeutic decision-making for NPSLE depends on the recognition of clinical syndromes that have not been sufficiently studied. This report describes the case of a 36-year-old woman with NPSLE who exhibited severe cognitive dysfunction and affective psychosis with persistent nihilistic delusions such as those described in the Cotard delusion.

Introduction: Lipopolysaccharide-responsive and beige-like anchor (LRBA) is a scaffolding protein that interacts with proteins such as CTLA-4 and PKA, the importance of which has been determined in various cell types, including T regulatory cells, B cells, and renal cells. LRBA deficiency is associated with an inborn error in immunity characterized by immunodeficiency and autoimmunity. In addition to defects in T regulatory cells, patients with LRBA deficiency also exhibit B cell defects, such as reduced cell number, low memory B cells, hypogammaglobulinemia, impaired B cell proliferation, and increased autophagy.
