Purpose: Pediatric intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) has been shown to be effective in preventing and reversing postoperative neurological deficits in developed countries. There are currently no published studies from developing countries that describe neurophysiological findings and postoperative outcomes. Our study aims to address these gaps in children undergoing neurosurgical procedures in a single center.

The communication between tumor cells and the microenvironment plays a fundamental role in the development, growth and further immune escape of the tumor. This communication is partially regulated by extracellular vesicles which can direct the behavior of surrounding cells. In recent years, it has been proposed that this feature could be applied as a potential treatment against cancer, since several studies have shown that tumors treated with radiotherapy can elicit a strong enough immune response to eliminate distant metastasis; this phenomenon is called the abscopal effect.

Leptomeningeal metastases (LM) are a rare but rapidly fatal complication defined by the spread of tumor cells within the leptomeninges and the subarachnoid space, found in approximately 10% of patients with HER2-positive breast cancers. This pilot study evaluated the efficacy of local treatment with intrathecal Trastuzumab (IT) added to systemic treatment. The oncologic outcome of 14 patients with HER2-positive LM is reported.

We present the case of a 17-year-old male, who complained of a 1-year onset of pulsatile headache, dysphagia, speech changes, and emotional lability. Neuroimaging revealed a large left-sided contrast-enhancing tumor located at the infratentorial space consistent with a large trochlear nerve schwannoma. The tumor was compressing the brainstem, obstructing the outflow of the third and lateral ventricles causing hydrocephalus, and disturbing the cortico-bulbar pathways bilaterally leading to the diagnosis of pseudobulbar palsy.

Purpose: To determine the total alpha-synuclein (αSyn) reflex tears and its association with retinal layers thickness in Parkinson's disease (PD).
Methods: Fifty-two eyes of 26 PD subjects and 52 eyes of age-and sex-matched healthy controls were included. Total αSyn in reflex tears was quantified using a human total αSyn enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit.

Background: To compare drug regimens across clinical trials in Parkinson's disease (PD) conversion formulae between antiparkinsonian drugs have been developed. These are reported in relation to levodopa as the benchmark drug in PD pharmacotherapy as 'levodopa equivalent dose' (LED). Currently, the LED conversion formulae proposed in 2010 by Tomlinson et al.

Patients with COVID-19 may develop abnormal inflammatory response, followed in some cases by severe disease and long-lasting syndromes. We show here that exposure to SARS-CoV-2 activates the expression of the human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) HERV-W proinflammatory envelope protein (ENV) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from a subset of healthy donors, in ACE2 receptor and infection-independent manner. Plasma and/or sera of 221 COVID-19 patients from different cohorts, infected with successive SARS-CoV-2 variants including the Omicron, had detectable HERV-W ENV, which correlated with ENV expression in T lymphocytes and peaked with the disease severity.

Objective: This article encapsulates the formal process for completing this program and the data on the first officially approved non-English version of the MDS-NMS (Spanish).
Methods: The MDS-NMS translation program involves four steps: translation and back-translation; cognitive pre-testing to ensure that raters and patients understand the scale and are comfortable with its content; field testing of the finalized version; analysis of the factor structure of the tested version against the original English language version for the nine domains that could be analyzed in a confirmatory factor analysis.
Introduction: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative, multisystem disorder. Its clinical presentation typically consists of progressive focal muscle atrophy and weakness. In addition to motor disorders, the association between ALS and cancer has been researched, such as frontotemporal dementia and progressive supranuclear palsy.

The aim of the present review was to summarize the potential interactive effects between the gut microbiota and advanced glycation end‑product (AGE) accumulation and toxicity in the host, and to reveal potential the mediatory effects of the gut microbiota on AGE‑related health effects. The existing data demonstrate that dietary AGEs can have a significant impact on the richness and diversity of the gut microbiota, although the particular effect is dependent on the type of species, as well as the exposure dose. In addition, the gut microbiota may metabolize dietary AGEs.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a major phytocannabinoid present in (Linneo, 1753). This naturally occurring secondary metabolite does not induce intoxication or exhibit the characteristic profile of drugs of abuse from cannabis like Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆-THC) does. In contrast to ∆-THC, our knowledge of the neuro-molecular mechanisms of CBD is limited, and its pharmacology, which appears to be complex, has not yet been fully elucidated.

Kynureninase (KYNU) is a kynurenine pathway (KP) enzyme that produces metabolites with immunomodulatory properties. In recent years, overactivation of KP has been associated with poor prognosis of several types of cancer, in particular by promoting the invasion, metastasis, and chemoresistance of cancer cells. However, the role of KYNU in gliomas remains to be explored.

Background And Aims: Orphan diseases, or rare diseases, are defined in Europe as diseases that affect less than 5 out of every 10,000 citizens. Given the small number of cases and the lack of profit potential, pharmaceutical companies have not invested much in the development of possible treatments. However, over the last few years, new therapies for rare diseases have emerged, giving physicians a chance to offer personalized treatment.

Background: Epilepsy is the most common major neurological disorder that affects people of all ages. The prevalence varies from one country to another and even between different areas, due to a lack of access to medical care for reasons related to limited resources.
Objective: Epilepsy is a worldwide public health problem that affects more deeply populations living in developing countries such as Mexico, where more aggressive health policies based on epidemiological data are needed; however, this information is scarce and the evolution of this data over time remains unclear.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage is considered the cause of spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH), an important etiology for new daily persistent headaches and a potentially life-threatening condition. Minor traumatic events rarely lead to CSF leakage, contrasting with iatrogenic interventions such as a lumbar puncture or spinal surgery, which are commonly complicated by dural tears. Most meningeal lesions are found in the cervicothoracic region, followed by the thoracic region, and rarely in the lumbar region, and extremely rarely in the sacral region.

Background: Optic neuritis (ON) can be an initial manifestation of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) associated with aquaporin 4-antibody (AQP4-Ab) or myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody (MOG-Ab)-associated disease (MOGAD). Additionally, both diseases may have overlapping paraclinical and radiological features. These diseases may have different outcomes and prognoses.

In the municipality of Los Reyes, Michoacán, in Mexico, several economic activities coexist; however, the most relevant is agriculture. It stands out as an agro-industrial center and commercial enclave in the region, suitable for the cultivation of sugar cane; however, currently fruit growing takes first place with blackberry, raspberry and blueberry, followed by avocado, peach, strawberry and other crops. A large quantity and variety of pesticides are applied to crops, consequently the population is at constant risk.
