The immune and endocrine dysfunctions of white adipose tissue are a hallmark of metabolic disorders such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. In humans, white adipose tissue comprises distinct depots broadly distributed under the skin (hypodermis) and as internal depots (visceral). Depot-specific ASCs could account for visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue properties, by regulating adipogenesis and immunomodulation.

The primary function of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is to restrict the posterior translation of the tibia, and its secondary function is to limit the tibial external rotation, mainly at 90° and 120° of knee flexion. The prevalence of PCL rupture ranges between 3% and 37% of patients with knee ligament tears. This ligament injury often is associated with other ligament injuries.

bioprinting is one of the most clinically relevant techniques in the emerging bioprinting technology because it could be performed directly on the human body in the operating room and it does not require bioreactors for post-printing tissue maturation. However, commercial bioprinters are still not available on the market. In this study, we demonstrated the benefit of the originally developed first commercial articulated collaborative bioprinter for the treatment of full-thickness wounds in rat and porcine models.

Introduction: Surgical intervention is the treatment of choice in patients with thoracic disc herniation with refractory symptoms and progressive myelopathy. Due to high occurrence of complications from open surgery, minimally invasive approaches are desirable. Nowadays, endoscopic techniques have become increasingly popular and full-endoscopic surgery can be performed in the thoracic spine with low complication rates.

The valgus deformity in the tibia requires correction because it places increased pressure on the lateral compartment of the knee, intensifying the degenerative process. Correction strategies are diverse and depend on patient profile, age, and soft-tissue conditions as well as the orthopaedic surgeon's experience with different surgical materials. Deformity size and location are the primary factors contributing to material and shape choice, whether gradual or acute.

Symptomatic articular cartilage injuries are often seen in young active patients and athletes. Magnetic resonance imaging screening examinations have frequently identified such lesions in athletic patients. Patellofemoral chondral defects were previously identified as the most common knee cartilage lesion in high-level athletes.

Injuries to the patellar tendon (PT) are associated with knee function deterioration and loss of the capacity to perform daily and sports activities. Patellar tendon injury is often misdiagnosed at emergency rooms, leading to chronic proximal retraction and a challenging clinical scenario. Proximal PT injuries are more common, while distal ones, which can involve tibial bone avulsion fractures or direct tendon avulsion, are rarer.

When there is a rupture in the meniscal roots or close to them, the menisci suddenly and considerably reduce their capacity to absorb the axial mechanical load that passes through the knee, quickly leading to the development of a process of chondral degeneration. The varus deformity of the lower limb (when the mechanical axis crosses the medial compartment of the knee) favors this type of injury owing to the overload in the medial compartment. When the patient has both varus deformity and medial meniscal posterior root injury, there is a clear indication for surgical realignment of the affected lower limb.

Translaminar screws in the cervical spine have been mostly employed at C2 level when conventional trajectories are challenging. However, reports in the literature of translaminar screw of C1 are remarkably anecdotal. We aimed to report a case using C1 translaminar in addition to C1 lateral mass screws for the reinforcement of subaxial cervical spine reconstruction.

Introduction: The standard treatment for a fixed coronal malalignment of the craniovertebral junction is an anterior and/or posterior column osteotomy (PCO) plus instrumentation. However, the procedure is very challenging, carrying an inherently high risk of complications even in experienced hands. This case series demonstrates the usefulness of an alternative treatment that adds a unilateral spacer distraction (USD) to the subaxial cervical facet joint to promote coronal realignment and fusion.

Background: Ventricular assist device (VAD) driveline exit site infection is a common complication. 3D scaffolds manufactured with highly homogeneous pores via melt electro-writing (MEW) may generate an improved skin-driveline interface which permits cellular in-growth and creates a barrier to prevent bacterial migration along the driveline tissue tunnel. This study investigated skin integration on segments of Heartmate 3 driveline: smooth polyurethane, velour, and on a custom MEW scaffold in a small animal model.

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is highly prevalent and causes pain, stiffness, and harms the quality of life of millions of patients. Scientific evidence about radiofrequency ablation or rhizotomy of genicular nerves has been presented with increasing frequency in the literature for the treatment of chronic pain related to knee OA as an alternative to total knee arthroplasty. The main indication for this procedure is symptomatic OA unresponsive to conservative treatment, regardless of the disease evolution, although more common indications are in Kellgren-Lawrence grade III or IV, in post-total knee arthroplasty residual pain without an identified cause, in patients with comorbidities and high surgical risk, and those who do not want to undergo surgery.

Background: Subtalar pain following intra-articular calcaneus fractures may be associated with disability, pain, and a negative impact on the quality of life. Salvage procedures as subtalar fusion are associated with further consequences as stiffness, altered ankle biomechanics, and adjacent articular overloading with degenerative changes. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the short-term effects of viscosupplementation with intra-articular hyaluronic acid (HA) on function and pain, in patients with painful subtalar joint after calcaneus fracture.
