Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is considered one of the most incurable malignancies due to its clinical characteristics, including high invasiveness, high metastatic potential, proneness to relapse, and poor prognosis. Therefore, it remains a critical unmet medical need. On the other hand, poor delivery efficiency continues to reduce the efficacy of anti-cancer therapeutics developed against solid tumours using various strategies, such as genetically engineered oncolytic vectors used as nanocarriers.

It is known that the perception of bitterness is mediated by type 2 bitter taste receptors (TAS2Rs). However, recent reports have suggested that the carbonic anhydrase 6 (CA6) gene may also influence bitterness sensing. Genetic variants in these genes could influence dietary intake of brassica vegetables, whose increased consumption has been observed in the literature, though inconsistently, to decrease breast cancer (BC) risk.

Background: Vaccination against pneumococci is currently the most effective method of protection against pneumococcal infections. The aim of the study was to analyse changes in hospitalisations and in-hospital deaths due to pneumonia before (2009-2016) and after (2017-2020) the introduction of PCV 10 vaccinations in the National Immunisation Programme in Poland.

Methods: Data on hospitalisations related to community acquired pneumonia (CAP) in the years 2009-2020 were obtained from the Nationwide General Hospital Morbidity Study.

Article Synopsis
  • The World Health Organization estimates that seasonal flu causes up to 650,000 deaths annually, and vaccination is the best preventive measure; if infection occurs, antiviral treatment should start promptly.
  • This study aimed to evaluate drug resistance and genetic variation of influenza viruses in Poland, analyzing samples from the 2016-2019 seasons for mutations in the neuraminidase gene.
  • Findings show that influenza A is more genetically diverse than B, with minimal differences in drug resistance rates between A subtypes, but higher prevalence of resistance mutations in influenza B, particularly in unvaccinated populations, indicating that low vaccination rates might contribute to the spread of drug-resistant strains.

  • - The study aimed to estimate the prevalence of chronic Hepatitis C Virus (cHCV) infections in EU/EEA countries for the year 2019, using a method called multi-parameter evidence synthesis (MPES) to analyze data from various sources.
  • - In 29 out of 30 EU/EEA countries, the overall cHCV prevalence was found to be 0.50%, with notably higher rates in the eastern EU/EEA (0.88%), and over a third of cases were linked to people who inject drugs (PWID).
  • - The findings indicate that while cHCV prevalence is generally low, targeted efforts are needed, particularly in eastern regions and among PWID, to

Considering the low rate of preventive behaviors (5%), it is important to increase the effectiveness of actions that motivate the public to engage in health-promoting behaviors. The purpose of this study was to assess the way in which Polish men perceive the threat of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and the effectiveness of five preventive behaviors in the context of CVDs. We aimed to identify groups of recipients, based on the extended parallel process model (EPPM), for five preventive behaviors and to compare the identified groups in terms of selected characteristics.
