At the end of 2019, a life threatening viral infection (COVID-19) caused by a novel coronavirus, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was reported. This virus has spread worldwide in a short duration and forced the world to face unprecedented life and economic loss. To date, there are no known specific drugs to combat this virus and the process for new drug development is lengthy.

Discipline of Natural Sciences, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design, and Manufacturing, Dumna Airport Road, Jabalpur-482005, India. Electronic address:

The rapid proliferation of SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19 patients has become detrimental to their lives. However, blocking the replication cycle of SARS-CoV-2 will help in suppressing the viral loads in patients, which would ultimately help in the early recovery. To discover such drugs, molecular docking, MD-simulations, and MM/GBSA approaches have been used herein to examine the role of several short ionic peptides in inhibiting the RNA binding site of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp).

Medicinal Chemistry has played a critical role in evolving new products, resources and processes which inexorably correspond to our high standards of living. Unfortunately, this has also caused deterioration of human health and threats to the global environment, even deaths when highly exposed to certain chemicals, whether due to improper use, mishandling or disposal. There are chemicals, which apart from being carcinogens, endocrine disruptors or neurotoxins, are also responsible for climate change and ozone depletion.

Various derivatives that mimic ceramide structures by introducing a triazole to connect the aminodiol moiety and long alkyl chain have been synthesized and screened for their anti-leukemia activity. SPS8 stood out among the derivatives, showing cytotoxic selectivity between leukemic cell lines and human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (about ten times). DAPI nuclear staining and H&E staining revealed DNA fragmentation under the action of SPS8.

Class II Major Histocompatibility complex (MHC-II) is a polymorphic heterodimer that binds antigen-derived peptides and presents them on the surface of antigen presenting cells. This mechanism of antigen presentation leads to recognition by CD4 T-cells and T-cell activation, making it a critical element of adaptive immune response. For this reason, the structural determinants of MHC-II function have been of great interest for the past 30 years, resulting in a robust structural understanding of the extracellular regions of the complex.

The Electron transport chain (ETC) is responsible for oxidative phosphorylation-mediated mitochondrial respiration. Here we wanted to address the mahanine-induced targeted pathways in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in the context of G0/G1 phase arrest and redox alteration. We have demonstrated mahanine, as a novel mitochondrial complex-III inhibitor which induced G0/G1 phase arrest in GBM.
