The quality of as-synthesized monolayers plays a significant role in atomically thin semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) to determine the electronic and optical properties. For designing optoelectronic devices, exploring the effect of processing parameters on optical properties is a prerequisite. Malaria, a global threat to the human population, remains a challenge partly due to the fast-growing drug-resistant strains of species. New therapeutics acting against the pathogenic asexual and sexual stages, including liver-stage malarial infection, have now attained more attention in achieving malaria eradication efforts. In this paper, two previously identified potent antiplasmodial hydroxyethylamine (HEA) compounds were investigated for their activity against the malaria parasite's multiple life stages.

A bio-nanocomposite matrix of polypyrrole grafted ZnO/chitosan (Ppy/C/Z) was synthesized the polymerization of pyrrole with different weight fractions of ZnO. Incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles with polypyrrole enhances the photocatalytic, antibacterial as well as cytotoxic properties of the resultant composite. Characterizations of the synthesized product were performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermal analysis (TGA and DTA).

We report here a novel surfactant mediated fusion of polylactide particles into scaffoldlike structures at room temperature. In the presence of ethanol, evenly spread surfactant coated polylactide particles fused immediately into membranelike structures. Polymer scaffolds of the desired shape and size could be fabricated from polylactide particles using this fusion process.

Vaccines have been proposed as one of the strategies for population control. Immunocontraceptive vaccines can be designed to inhibit: (1) production of gametes (sperm and egg); (2) functions of gametes, leading to blocking of fertilization; and (3) gamete outcome (pregnancy). Immunization with gonadotropin-releasing hormone coupled to different carriers has shown curtailment in the production of sperm with concomitant infertility in various species.

We assessed genomic instability of 3.4 kb DYZ1 repeat arrays in patients encompassing prostate cancer (PC), cases of repeated abortion (RA) and males exposed to natural background radiation (NBR) using real-time PCR and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Normal males showed DYZ1 copies ranging from 3000 to 4300, RA, 0-2237; PC, 550; and males exposed to NBR, 1577-5700.

Temporal progression of nuclear events of goat oocytes matured in vitro was studied by adding a specific inhibitor to the culture medium at different time points, to investigate protein synthesis requirements and its pattern during in vitro maturation. Goat cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were matured in vitro in TCM 199, fixed at different time intervals and stained with orcein to assess nuclear changes. The germinal vesicle (GV) stage was found to be present at 0 h, chromosomal condensation stage was observed at 8 h, metaphase I at 12 to 14 h, and metaphase II was begun after 16 h of maturation and was nearly completed at 24 h.
