Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by bone marrow failure, predisposition to cancer, and congenital abnormalities. FA is caused by pathogenic variants in any of 22 genes involved in the DNA repair pathway responsible for removing interstrand crosslinks. FANCL, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, is an integral component of the pathway, but patients affected by disease-causing FANCL variants are rare, with only nine cases reported worldwide.

Objective: To evaluate the combination of plasma activated endothelial microparticles (CD62e), serum Copeptin (CPP) and placental growth factor (PlGF) levels at 18-23 weeks of gestation for prediction of preeclampsia (PE) in primigravid women.
Methods: This was a nested case-control study from a prospective cohort of 1115 primigravid women attending antenatal care clinic. Plasma levels of CD62e and serum Copeptin, PlGF levels were measured by flow cytometry and ELISA, respectively.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, the enzyme complex responsible for reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, is defective in chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) patients. Thalassaemias are the most common inherited autosomal recessive single gene disorders characterised by chronic hereditary haemolytic anaemia due to absence or reduced synthesis of one or more of the globin chains. Haemoglobin E (HbE)-β-thalassaemia is the genotype responsible for approximately one-half of all cases of severe β-thalassaemia worldwide. This study proposes to evaluate response of hydroxyurea in reducing transfusion requirements of severe HbE-β-thalassaemia patients, and its correlation with foetal haemoglobin (HbF) level and α-mutation.

Background: Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is characterized by mutation in any one of the five genes coding NADPH oxidase components that leads to functional abnormality preventing the killing of phagocytosed microbes by affecting the progression of a respiratory burst. CGD patients have an increased susceptibility to infections by opportunistic and pathogenic organisms. Though initial diagnosis of CGD using a nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) test or dihydrorhodamine (DHR) test is relatively easy, molecular diagnosis is challenging due to involvement of multiple genes, presence of pseudogenes, large deletions, and GC-rich regions, among other factors.
