Immune mediators affect multiple biological functions of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and, like Paneth and Paneth-like cells, play an important role in intestinal epithelial homeostasis. IFN-γ a prototypical proinflammatory cytokine disrupts intestinal epithelial homeostasis. However, the mechanism underlying the process remains unknown.

Pancreatic cancer is a pathology with a high mortality rate since it is detected at advanced stages, so the search for early-stage diagnostic biomarkers is essential. Liquid biopsies are currently being explored for this purpose and educated platelets are a good candidate, since they are known to present a bidirectional interaction with tumor cells. In this work, we analyzed the effects of platelets on cancer cells' viability, as determined by MTT, migration using transwell assays, clonogenicity in soft agar and stemness by dilution assays and stem markers' expression.

An exploration of the normal limits of physiologic responses and how these responses are lost when the kidney is injured rarely occurs in clinical practice. However, the differences between "resting" and "stressed" responses identify an adaptive reactiveness that is diminished before baseline function is impaired. This functional reserve is important in the evaluation of prognosis and progression of kidney disease.

Purpose: To describe the temporal association of specific acute neurological symptoms in pediatric patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection between May and August 2020.
Methods: We performed a recollection of all the clinical and laboratory data of patients having acute neurological symptoms temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection at a third-level referral hospital in Mexico City (Instituto Nacional de Pediatría). Patients in an age group of 0-17 years with acute neurological signs (including ascending weakness with areflexia, diminished visual acuity, encephalopathy, ataxia, stroke, or weakness with plasma creatinine kinase (CK) elevation) were evaluated.

Background & Aims: Anorexia is a frequent symptom in cancer and we aimed to assess its prevalence among patients at their first cancer diagnosis by different appetite tools and the relationship between each tool with self-reports of food intake. We also tested whether cancer anorexia influences outcomes independently of reduced food intake or body weight loss (BWL) overtime and whether BWL was associated with complications during anticancer-therapy.
Methods: Functional Assessment of Anorexia/Cachexia Therapy (FAACT) score, self-assessment of appetite, Anorexia Questionnaire (AQ) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were administered.

Background: The authors describe a series of learner-centered exercises, highlighting a technique in which the musculoskeletal anatomy is explored and learned through self-examination, with the examiner required to identify designated structures in both the static and dynamic state.
Methods: The technique of musculoskeletal anatomy through self-examination consists of applying knowledge of the surface anatomy of a region as it exists in the static state, to the analysis and understanding of changes that occur with movement and function of that body part. The sensory input of the examined part may contribute to the overall perception of the exercise.

Transient reactive aquagenic pseudokeratoderma is characterized by transient whitish and translucent papules after water exposure in palms and soles. We report 5 additional cases and their histopathologic features. Patient 5 showed a topography that had not been reported before; this demonstrates that it is not an exclusive condition of palms and soles.
