Smokeless tobacco (SLT), a cause of potentially preventable diseases, has a diverse chemical composition encompassing toxicants as well as potent carcinogens. Though the chemical profile of SLT products has been analyzed earlier, this information is not available in a comprehensive and easily accessible format. Hence, there is an imperative felt need to develop a one-stop information source providing inclusive information on SLT products.

Cancer is a disease that claims millions of lives each year across the world. Despite advancement in technologies and therapeutics for treating the disease, these modes are often found to turn ineffective during the course of treatment. The resistance against drugs in cancer patients stems from multiple factors, which constitute genetic heterogeneity like gene mutations, tumor microenvironment, exosomes, miRNAs, high rate of drug efflux from cells, and so on.

Introduction: India fights massive cervical cancer burden. This article highlights an innovative feasible approach enabling tertiary hospitals to contribute to cancer prevention without compromising their primary mandate to provide treatment. Methodology: Since 1979, National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research (NICPR) support a tertiary hospital in cervical cancer screening through a satellite clinic.

Background: Early diagnosis of ovarian cancer is essential for long term disease control and mortality reduction. This has been achieved using tumor markers like cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) which is elevated in malignant as well as non-malignant conditions. This dilemma led to efforts towards development of newer markers like serum human epididymis secretory protein E4 (HE4).

Smokeless tobacco is consumed by 356 million people globally and is a leading cause of head and neck cancers. However, global efforts to control smokeless tobacco use trail behind the progress made in curbing cigarette consumption. In this Policy Review, we describe the extent of the policy implementation gap in smokeless tobacco control, discuss key reasons on why it exists, and make recommendations on how to bridge this gap.

Adenocarcinoma (ADC) of the uterine cervix (UC) is a rare form of cervical cancer (CC) caused due to the infection of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Cyclin D1 is one of the downstream targets of aberrantly activated Notch signaling, contribute to the etiology of CC. However, little is known about the role of Cyclin D1 in the modulation of cervical ADC and is controversial.

Cervical cancer is the second major female cancer in India and constitutes one-fourth of the world's burden. Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection is an essential but insufficient cause for cervical cancer. Genetic variants in microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) play an important role in the susceptibility of various types of cancers.

Objectives: Older adults with adverse socioeconomic conditions suffer disproportionately from a poor quality of life. Stratified by sex, income-related inequalities have been decomposed for functional deficiencies and chronic diseases among older adults, and the degree to which social and demographic factors contribute to these inequalities was identified in this study.
Design: Cross-sectional study.

EGFR is a well-established therapeutic target of clinical relevance in cancer. However, acquisition of secondary mutation (T790M) makes first-generation inhibitors ineffective. Therefore, to circumvent the problem of resistance, new T790M/L858R (TMLR) double mutant inhibitors are required.

Significance: Studies reporting the prevalence and associated risk factors of myopia among schoolchildren in India are limited. Knowledge about the prevalence and the modifiable risk factors associated with myopia development will help in planning cost-effective strategies to prevent its progression in India.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence and associated behavioral risk factors of myopia in schoolchildren in Gurugram, Haryana, in north India.

Background: EGFR is a clinically approved drug target in cancer. The first generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors targeting L858R mutated EGFR are routinely used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the presence of a secondary mutation (T790M) tenders these inhibitors ineffective and thus results in the relapse of the disease.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a major contributing factor for the development of CC. The development of CC occurs progressively from precancer stages to cancerous stages (ie, invasive squamous cell carcinoma [ISCC] and adenocarcinoma [ADC]).

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). The UPEC initiate pathogenesis by expressing type 1 pili, which attach to membrane receptors on the uroepithelial cells. Inhibition of attachment can provide a valuable target for prophylaxis in symptom-free milieu.

Background: Chronic infection with Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) poses a major risk for liver disease like cirrhosis, liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma. In terms of percentage, the prevalence of HCV in India was found to be low to moderate (1-1.5%), but in terms of sheer numbers, India has a significant number of global HCV patients.

Due to the extensive ban on public smoking, tobacco companies focused their business on new smokeless tobacco (SLT) products promoting them as a harm reduction strategy and a safer alternative to cigarettes. Two nitrosamines, N'-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) and nicotine-derived nitrosamine ketone (NNK), present in SLT, listed as group 1 human carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, are found to be the prime agents for most of cancers in SLT users. This review illustrates the mechanism of cancer induction by NNN and NNK in humans along with factors influencing the formation of NNN and NNK at various stages of tobacco manufacturing.

RWP-RKs represent a small family of transcription factors (TFs) that are unique to plants and function particularly under conditions of nitrogen starvation. These RWP-RKs have been classified in two sub-families, NLPs (NIN-like proteins) and RKDs (RWP-RK domain proteins). NLPs regulate tissue-specific expression of genes involved in nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and RKDs regulate expression of genes involved in gametogenesis/embryogenesis.
