Background: Reducing premature non-communicable disease (NCD) mortality is a global challenge. Sodium is thought to increase the risk of NCD via an effect of salt per se or high-salt foods on hypertension-induced cardiovascular disease (CVD) and gastrointestinal cancer. Further, the relative risk of CVD is reportedly more closely associated with sodium/potassium ratio than with sodium alone.

Chemotherapy is the primary treatment option for pancreatic cancer, although nanocarrier-based drug delivery systems often struggle with multiple physiological barriers, limiting their therapeutic efficacy. Here, we developed a pH/reactive oxygen species (ROS) dual-sensitive self-adaptive nanocarrier (DAT) encapsulating camptothecin (CPT), an analog of the pancreatic chemotherapeutic drug irinotecan (CPT-11), to enhance chemotherapy outcomes in orthotopic pancreatic cancer by addressing multiple physiological barriers. The nanocarrier features a peripherally positively charged arginine (Arg) residue on DAT and is masked with an acid-labile 2,3-dimethylmaleic anhydride (DA) to improve circulation time.

Introduction: The emergence of mutations in the BCR::ABL1 kinase domain (KD) impairs imatinib mesylate (IM) binding capacity, thus contributing to IM resistance. Identification of these mutations is important for treatment decisions and precision medicine in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) patients. Our study aims to determine the frequency of BCR::ABL1 KD mutations in CML patients with IM resistance.

Introduction: Although the Tumor-Node-Metastasis (TNM) staging system is widely used for staging lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), the TNM system primarily emphasizes tumor size and metastasis, without adequately considering lymph node involvement. Consequently, incorporating lymph node metastasis as an additional prognostic factor is essential for predicting outcomes in LSCC patients.
Methods: This retrospective study included patients diagnosed with LSCC between 2004 and 2018 and was based on data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database of the National Cancer Institute.

Xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XPC) is a versatile protein crucial for sensing DNA damage in the global genome nucleotide excision repair (GG-NER) pathway. This pathway is vital for mammalian cells, acting as their essential approach for repairing DNA lesions stemming from interactions with environmental factors, such as exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Loss-of-function mutations in the XPC gene confer a photosensitive phenotype in XP-C patients, resulting in the accumulation of unrepaired UV-induced DNA damage.

Hypoxic tumors are radioresistant stemming from the fact that oxygen promotes reactive oxygen species (ROS) propagation after water radiolysis and stabilizes irradiation-induced DNA damage. Therefore, an attractive strategy to radiosensitize solid tumors is to increase tumor oxygenation at the time of irradiation, ideally above a partial pressure of 10 mm-Hg at which full radiosensitization can be reached. Historically, the many attempts to increase vascular O delivery have had limited efficacy, but mathematical models predicted that inhibiting cancer cell respiration would be more effective.

In this study, the interaction of crebanine, an isoquinoline alkaloid, with immunoglobulin G (IgG) was evaluated. Subsequently, the anticancer effects of crebanine in MCF-7 breast cancer cells were assessed. The results demonstrate that static quenching plays a key role in the fluorescence quenching of the IgG by crebanine, and some embedded hydrophobic patches of the IgG are exposed upon interaction with crebanine, while the characteristic β-sheet conformation of the IgG was almost preserved.
