Despite advancements in cancer treatments, therapies frequently exhibit high cytotoxicity, and surgery remains the predominant method for treating most solid tumors, often with limited success in preventing post-surgical recurrence. Implantable biomaterials, designed to release drugs at a localised site in response to specific stimuli, represent a promising approach for enhancing tumour therapy. In this study, a redox-responsive glutathione extended polyurethane urea (PolyCEGS) was used to produce paclitaxel (PTX) and gold nanorods (AuNRs) loaded electrospun membranes for combined redox/near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive release chemotherapy and hyperthermic effect.

Many proteins have been recently shown to undergo a process of phase separation that leads to the formation of biomolecular condensates. Intriguingly, it has been observed that some of these proteins form dense droplets of sizeable dimensions already below the critical concentration, which is the concentration at which phase separation occurs. This study investigates the effects of natural inhibitors (pomegranate, algae, and tomato extracts) on the corrosion resistance of titanium (grade 2). To deepen understanding the inhibition mechanism, Molecular Dynamic (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations were employed to analyze adsorption behaviors and identify optimal adsorption sites on titanium oxide (TiO) surfaces for compounds within the inhibitors. Results indicate non-flat adsorption orientations, with pomegranate peel extract components showing superior inhibition capabilities, attributed to the formation of strong O-H chemical bonds with the TiO surface.

State-of-the-art 19th century spectroscopy led to the discovery of quantum mechanics, and 20th century spectroscopy led to the confirmation of quantum electrodynamics. State-of-the-art 21st century astrophysical spectrographs, especially ANDES at ESO's ELT, have another opportunity to play a key role in the search for, and characterization of, the new physics which is known to be out there, waiting to be discovered. We rely on detailed simulations and forecast techniques to discuss four important examples of this point: big bang nucleosynthesis, the evolution of the cosmic microwave background temperature, tests of the universality of physical laws, and a real-time model-independent mapping of the expansion history of the universe (also known as the redshift drift).

The overarching challenge of this research is setting up a procedure to select the most appropriate fraction from complex, heterogeneous materials such as historic mortars in case of radiocarbon dating. Spike (S) glycoprotein is the largest structural protein of SARS-CoV-2 virus and the main one involved in anchoring of the host receptor ACE2 through the receptor binding domain (RBD). S protein secondary structure is of great interest for shedding light on various aspects, from functionality to pathogenesis, finally to spectral fingerprint for the design of optical biosensors. In this paper, the secondary structure of SARS-CoV-2 S protein and its constituting components, namely RBD, S1 and S2 regions, are investigated at serological pH by measuring their amide I infrared absorption bands through Attenuated Total Reflection Infrared (ATR-IR) spectroscopy.

The ANTHEM (Advanced Technologies for Human-centered Medicine) Radio-Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) will employ eight coaxial power couplers, which will be magnetically coupled to the device through a loop antenna.
