Background: Identifying stage-specific antigens is essential for developing tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics and vaccines. In a low TB endemic country, we characterized, the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb)-specific immune response to a pool of Mtb-derived epitopes (ATB116), demonstrated as associated with TB disease.
Methods: In this prospective observational cross-sectional study, we enrolled healthy donors (HD), subjects with TB disease, and TB infection (TBI) at baseline and therapy completion.

The treatment of non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections is challenging because of the difficulty in obtaining phenotypic (pDST) and/or molecular (mDST) drug susceptibility testing and the need of a multi-drug regimen. : The objective was to describe the in vitro susceptibility patterns of various NTM species through an analysis of susceptibility results obtained on isolates collected between 2018 and 2023. Species identification and mutations in or genes (mDST) were identified by a line probe assay, while the pDST was performed by broth microdilution and interpreted according to CLSI criteria.

Epidemiological studies have shown that HPV-related diseases are the most prevalent sexually transmitted infections. In this context, this report will present various clinical cases demonstrating the effectiveness of Acyclovir (ACV) or its prodrug Valaciclovir (VCV), both acyclic guanosine analogs commonly used for the treatment of HHV-1 and HHV-2, for the treatment of HPV-related diseases. The report shows the remission of five cases of penile condyloma and a case of remission in a woman affected by cervical and vaginal condylomas and a vulvar giant condyloma acuminate of Buschke and Lowenstein.

Objectives: To investigate whether SARS-CoV-2 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccination has an impact on HIV-related viro-immunological parameters.
Methods: People with HIV (PWH) in the VAXICONA-ORCHESTRA cohort who received one or more doses of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine and for whom paired measures of immuno-virological markers (viral load, clusters of differentiation [CD]4, and CD8 count 1 month before and after a vaccine dose [VD]) were available were included. Paired t-test and generalized estimating equation linear regression analyses were used to study changes over ± 1 month around the VD.

Injection drug use represents an important contributor to hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission, hence therapeutic communities (TCs) are promising points of care for the identification and treatment of HCV-infected persons who inject drugs (PWIDs). We evaluated the effectiveness and efficacy of an HCV micro-elimination program targeting PWIDs in the context of a drug-free TC; we applied the cascade of care (CoC) evaluation by calculating frequencies of infection diagnosis, confirmation, treatment and achievement of a sustained virological response (SVR). We also evaluated the risk of reinfection of PWIDs achieving HCV eradication by collecting follow-up virologic information of previously recovered individuals and eventual relapse in drug use, assuming the latter as a potential source of reinfection.

Background: The aim of this study is to design ad hoc malaria learning (ML) approaches to predict clinical outcome in all patients with imported malaria and, therefore, to identify the best clinical setting.
Methods: This is a single-centre cross-sectional study, patients with confirmed malaria, consecutively hospitalized to the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases, Rome, Italy from January 2007 to December 2020, were recruited. Different ML approaches were used to perform the analysis of this dataset: support vector machines, random forests, feature selection approaches and clustering analysis.
