In this study, CoCr layered double hydroxide material (CoCr-LDH) was prepared and used as an effective catalyst for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to degrade organics in water. The prepared CoCr-LDH material had a crystalline structure and relatively porous structure, as determined by various surface analyses. In Rhodamine B (RhB) removal, the most outstanding PMS activation ability belongs to the material with a Co:Cr molar ratio of 2:1.

Esters of 2-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (2-MCPD), 3- monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD), and glycidol are present in infant formulas, follow-on foods and similar compositions. They arise mainly from the vegetable oil content and may cause harmful effects in consumers. The contents of these substances in formulas were determined indirectly by converting the esters to the free form, followed by derivatization and analysis by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS).

This research aims to develop bitter taste-masking microcapsules containing azithromycin (AZI) by a simpler and familiar method, fluid-bed coating technology, in comparison with Zithromax. Cores of microcapsules, AZI microparticles, were prepared by fluid-bed granulation, then taste-masking polymer was covered on by fluid-bed coating technique. Eudragit L100, Eudragit RL100, and ethyl cellulose in single and combined with Eudragit L100 and Eudragit E100 were used as taste-masking polymers.

is one of the most dangerous foodborne pathogens listed by the World Health Organization. In this study, whole-duck samples were collected at wet markets in five districts in Hanoi, Vietnam, in October 2019 to assess their infection rates and evaluate the susceptibility of the isolated strains to antibiotics currently used in the prophylaxis and treatment of infection. Based on the antibiotic resistance profiles, eight multidrug resistance strains were whole-genome-sequenced, and their antibiotic resistance genes, genotypes, multi-locus sequence-based typing (MLST), virulence factors, and plasmids were analyzed.

is one of the most common agents of foodborne bacterial illness with poultry being an important reservoir. The indiscriminate use of antimicrobial compounds in poultry farming increasingly leads to antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) which threatens the health of both animals and humans. Antimicrobial-resistant from the poultry can spread to human through the direct contact with infected poultry or fecal contaminated environments.

The need for analytical methods that are fast, affordable, and ecologically friendly is expanding. Because of its low solvent consumption, minimal waste production, and speedy analysis, capillary electrophoresis is considered a "green" choice among analytical separation methods. With these "green" features, we have utilized the capillary electrophoresis method with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (CE-CD) to simultaneously determine glucosamine and Ca in dietary supplements.

This study aimed to evaluate the miscibility of cellulose derivatives to improve the release rate and stability of microparticles containing the weakly basic drug itraconazole (ITZ). We also investigated the effect of some organic acids on the microenvironmental pH (pH) and the release rate of ITZ from the cellulose-based microparticles. The synergistic effect of cellulose-based microparticles and pH modulators on the bioavailability of ITZ compared with the reference product was investigated in a rabbit model.

Mechanistic insights into efficient peroxymonosulfate activation by NiCo layered double hydroxides.

Environ Res

January 2023

Department of Chemical Engineering, Le Quy Don Technical University, 236 Hoang Quoc Viet, Hanoi, 100000, Viet Nam. Electronic address:

The efficient removal of organic refractory pollutants such as dyes and antibiotics in wastewater is crucial for protecting the environment and human health. In this work, a NiCo-layered double hydroxide (NiCo-LDH) with a uniform microspherical, hierarchical structure and a high surface area was successfully synthesized as an effective peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator for the degradation of various organic dyes and antibiotics. The influence of various parameters on the catalytic activity of the NiCo-LDH was determined.

Vitamins and minerals are usually incorporated in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products, but a simple, rapid, and inexpensive analytical method for their simultaneous determination is still lacking. In this study, we developed a quantification method for pyridoxine (vitamin B) and magnesium (Mg) by using purpose-made capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (CE-CD) instrument. Main analytical conditions include: fused silica capillary (total length 55 cm, effective length 40 cm, inner diameter 50 μm); background electrolyte consisted of 10 mM L-arginine/acetic acid (pH 5) with 20% acetonitrile; separation voltage + 20 kV; hydrodynamic injection (siphoning at 20 cm in 25 s).

The study aims to (a) enhance the solubility of a poorly soluble drug by optimization of nanocrystal formulation using the top-down approach and (b) modify the release profile of this drug, which exhibits a short elimination half-life, by the integration of a fast-release phase containing the optimized nanocrystals and a sustained-release phase in a compression-coated tablet. Nanocrystals of the model drug (lornoxicam; LNX) was prepared by simultaneous application of jet-milling and ball-milling techniques. Investigation of the precipitation inhibition capacity, thermal property, and interaction of different polymers with the drug revealed polyvinyl pyrrolidone K30 (PVP) as the most effective stabilizer for nanocrystals.

Mining activities in Vietnam have resulted in potential heavy metals contamination, which unfavorably influences soil quality and represents a risk to human health. This study was designed to investigate the heavy metals contamination in the vicinity of the Pb-Zn and Au mines. Soil samples were collected along the stream, and then, solutions were prepared by a modified Aqua Regia method.

January 2022

Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), 268 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam; Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. Electronic address:

In this study, cobalt ferrite coated carbon felt (CoFeO/CF) was synthesized by solvothermal method and applied as cathode for electro-Fenton (EF) treatment of tartrazine (TTZ) in water. The materials were characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, CV, and EIS to explore their physical, chemical, and electrical properties. The effects of solvothermal temperature and metal content on the TTZ removal were examined, showing that 220 °C with 2 mM of Co and 4 mM of Fe precursors were the best synthesis condition.

Fumonisin is one of the most prevalent mycotoxins in maize, causing substantial economic losses and potential health risks in human and animals. In the present study, in-house polyclonal IgY antibody against fumonisin group B (FB) was applied for the development of a competitive lateral flow immunoassay detecting these mycotoxins in maize grains with the limit of detection of 4000 µg/kg, which corresponds to the maximum residue limit adopted by The International Codex Alimentarius Commission. To this end, factors affecting the test performance including nitrocellulose membrane type, dilution factor of maize homogenates in running buffer, amount of detection conjugate, and incubation time between detection conjugate and samples were optimized.

The first objective of this study was to optimize a supersaturatable self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (S-SNEDDS) containing silymarin through the investigation of the single and synergistic effect of either SNEDDS or a precipitation inhibitor on dissolution efficiency (DE) of silymarin. The bioavailability and hepatoprotective activity of S-SNEDDS were then compared to those of a branded product (Legalon®, Meda). SNEDDS containing silymarin was developed by titration technique, and Poloxamer 407 was selected as the optimal precipitation inhibitor by using casting film and solvent-shift method.
