Introduction: The paediatric radiation dose has never been studied in Sri Lanka, nor has a national diagnostic reference level (NDRL) established. Therefore, the primary aim of this study was to propose diagnostic reference levels (DRL) and achievable dose (AD) values for paediatric CT examinations based on size.
Methods: A total of 658 paediatric (0-15 years) non-contrast-enhanced (NC) studies of head, chest and abdomen regions performed during six months in two dedicated paediatric hospitals (out of the three such institutions in the country) were included.

Drainage of a pleural effusion is done either by inserting an intercostal tube or by aspirating pleural fluid using a syringe. The latter is a time-consuming and labour-intensive procedure. The serious complications of pleural aspiration are the development of a pneumothorax and re-expansion pulmonary oedema.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has disproportionately affected patients with kidney disease, causing significant challenges in disease management, kidney research and trainee education. For patients, increased infection risk and disease severity, often complicated by acute kidney injury, have contributed to high mortality. Clinicians were faced with high clinical demands, resource shortages and novel ethical dilemmas in providing patient care.

Background: Diffusion-weighted (DW) imaging is a well-recognized magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that is being routinely used in brain examinations in modern clinical radiology practices. This study focuses on extracting demographic and texture features from MRI Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) images of human brain tumors, identifying the distribution patterns of each feature and applying Machine Learning (ML) techniques to differentiate malignant from benign brain tumors.
Methods: This prospective study was carried out using 1599 labeled MRI brain ADC image slices, 995 malignant, 604 benign from 195 patients who were radiologically diagnosed and histopathologically confirmed as brain tumor patients.

Background: The source of excess androgen can be obscure in postmenopausal women with new-onset hyperandrogenism. If serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS) is raised, it is presumed to be of adrenal origin because DHEAS is exclusively produced from adrenal cortical cells. This reports an elderly female presenting with new-onset hyperandrogenism due to an ovarian sex cord-stromal tumour, associated with increased serum DHEAS levels.

The South Asian population is rapidly ageing and sarcopenia is likely to become a huge burden in this region if proper action is not taken in time. Several sarcopenia guidelines are available, from the western world and from East Asia. However, these guidelines are not fully relevant for the South Asian healthcare ecosystem.

Introduction And Importance: Denosumab is used as a neoadjuvant therapy for giant cell tumours (GCT) prior to surgery to improve surgical clearance and reduce the rate of recurrence. However, the use of denosumab as adjuvant therapy following an external fixator for GCT of the distal radius has not been commonly described. We describe the use of adjuvant denosumab following curettage and external fixation in a patient with GCT of the distal radius presenting with a pathological fracture.

Acute transient vertigo, ataxia, and hypertension after trigeminal nerve block via a coronoid approach with alcohol have been reported previously. We report a similar complication after the same block with nerve stimulator guidance with bupivacaine without alcohol. Stimulation of the vestibular canal by the needle, or disturbance to its blood supply, presence of an abnormal anatomical connection of the mandibular nerve and vestibular system or spasm of cerebellar arteries from the stimulating needle are possible causations rather than the drug used, whether it is alcohol or bupivacaine.

Post-chikungunya joint pain (arthritis or arthralgia) is a clinical concern in endemic regions as it may cause a debilitating illness sometimes years after the acute infection. This systematic review analyses evidence from controlled clinical trials regarding the efficacy of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to treat post-chikungunya joint pain. PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane library and Web of Science were searched for eligible studies without any language or time limits, excluding retrospective studies, and prospective observational studies without a control group.
