Introduction: Chemoimmunotherapy is widely used as the first-line management of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in clinical settings. However, predictive factors associated with the development of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and prognostic factors for NSCLC patients undergoing chemoimmunotherapy remains largely unexplored. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to evaluate predictive factors for irAE development and prognostic factors associated with chemoimmunotherapy in NSCLC patients.

Introduction: Combination therapy of anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy has been widely used as a first-line treatment for patients with unresectable advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in clinical settings; however, prognostic biomarkers associated with survival outcomes have not been sufficiently investigated.
Methods: We enrolled 147 previously untreated patients with advanced NSCLC who were treated with a combination therapy of anti-PD-1/-PD-L1 antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy at eight institutions in Nagano Prefecture between December 2018 and April 2023. We evaluated the prognostic value of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), a systemic inflammatory nutritional biomarker calculated from body weight and serum albumin level, for patients with NSCLC treated with a combination therapy of anti-PD-1/-PD-L1 antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy.

Introduction: Combination immunotherapy is widely used in clinical practice as the first-line treatment for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, predictive factors associated with long-term response to combination immunotherapy have not been well investigated. Herein, we compared the clinical findings, including systemic inflammatory nutritional biomarkers, between responders and nonresponders to combination immunotherapy.

The chosen treatment for anomalous systemic arterial supply to the basal segment of the lung (ABLL) is typically the division of the anomalous artery and resection of the abnormal area, dependent on the anomalous artery. Although only division or interventional embolization of the anomalous artery may be selected. However, leaving the area dependent on the anomalous artery can lead to complications, such as necrosis and pulmonary infarction.

Background: Spontaneous pneumomediastinum recurrence is rare, and its clinical presentation is unclear. We investigated the clinical features of and predisposing factors for spontaneous pneumomediastinum recurrence.
Methods: We retrospectively investigated 30 consecutive patients treated for new-onset spontaneous pneumomediastinum at Shinshu Ueda Medical Center between 2012 and 2021.

We report two cases of pulmonary collapse that simulated pneumothorax on computed tomographic images and were caused by rapid complete bronchial obstruction. One patient was a 77-year-old woman with sudden dyspnea, and the other was an 83-year-old woman with sudden dyspnea who was infected with influenza A virus. Chest computed tomography revealed lobular complete atelectasis with an almost complete expansion of the other lobes of the right lung.

Background: Combination immunotherapy (immune checkpoint inhibitors and cytotoxic anticancer agents) is widely used as first-line treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the therapeutic effect of combination immunotherapy has not been fully investigated. C-reactive protein, performance status, lactate dehydrogenase, albumin, and derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (C-PLAN) are useful biomarkers for predicting the prognosis of NSCLC; however, there are no reports examining the C-PLAN index, which combines these five factors in a single prognostic factor.

Forty-five patients were treated with CVP from July 2019 to April 2021. (Methods) Patients were assessed preoperatively and at one and three months after CVP treatment by using the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), quality of life index (QOL index), peak urinary flow rate (Qmax), and postvoid residual urine volume (PVR).

Introduction: Pembrolizumab is a programmed death-ligand 1 inhibitor that was initially indicated for monotherapy in patients with advanced lung cancer. The Japanese Lung Cancer Society conducted an observational study on pembrolizumab using confirmative data obtained through postmarketing all-case surveillance (PMACS), which was performed by a pharmaceutical company under the Japanese law in 2017.
Methods: This multicenter observational study was conducted by the Japanese Lung Cancer Society using PMACS data with the newly created central registration system regarding patients with NSCLC who received pembrolizumab monotherapy between February 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017; a new database was created by adding the clinical information regarding prognosis for 3 years after therapy to the existing data collected by PMACS.

An 81-year-old woman lost consciousness and was taken to our hospital 3 days after colonoscopy was performed as a follow-up of endoscopic mucosal resection done 1 year ago for early sigmoid colon cancer detection. She had left hypochondrial pain. Based on abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) findings, she was diagnosed with abdominal bleeding due to injury to the lower splenic pole, and an urgent splenectomy was performed.

Introduction: Male breast cancer accounts for <1% of all breast cancer. We report a patient with prostate cancer during hormone therapy who developed breast cancer.
Case Presentation: An 88-year-old male underwent androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer and developed an induration in the left breast 7 years after the start of treatment.

Vomiting-induced pneumomediastinum is often caused by oesophageal perforation or alveolar rupture due to increased pressure. A correct diagnosis is important because both diseases have different treatments and severities. We report the case of a 21-year-old man who presented with chest pain and fever after frequent vomiting and had elevated white blood cell counts on blood tests.

Introduction: Risk factors for seriously ill coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) patients have been reported in several studies. However, to date, few studies have reported simple risk assessment tools for distinguishing patients becoming severely ill after initial diagnosis. Hence, this study aimed to develop a simple clinical risk nomogram predicting oxygenation risk in patients with COVID-19 at the first triage.
