Human C1q deficiency is frequently associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which requires long-term systemic corticosteroid administration. We report the case of a 12-year-old female patient with C1q deficiency presenting with intractable SLE who successfully underwent bone marrow transplantation from a human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-mismatched unrelated donor with an immunosuppressive conditioning regimen based on fludarabine, melphalan, and anti-thymocyte globulin. She developed Grade I graft-versus-host disease, but did not have any transplantation-related morbidity.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to retrospectively document prevalence rates of delayed-onset hearing loss (DOHL) under 7 years old after passing the newborn hearing screening (NHS) program using its database in Okayama Prefecture, as well as records from Okayama Kanariya Gakuen (OKG, Auditory Center for Hearing Impaired Children, Okayama Prefecture, Japan). The introduction of proteasome inhibitors and immunomodulatory and antibody drugs has dramatically improved the prognosis of multiple myeloma (MM) in the 21st century. Despite the development of such highly effective MM therapeutics, however, patients may develop drug resistance and become refractory to standard therapies, and thus cannot be cured. New molecular targeted (venetoclax, selinexor), immunomodulatory (iberdomide), and antibody drugs (isatuximab, belantamab mafodotin), as well as bispecific T-cell engagers (BiTE) and chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T-cell) therapy, have been developed in the past 1-2 years, and promising results have been reported.

In the phase 3 OPTIMISMM trial, pomalidomide, bortezomib and dexamethasone (PVd) significantly improved the progression-free survival (PFS) and the overall response rate (ORR) vs bortezomib and dexamethasone (Vd) in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. All patients were previously treated with lenalidomide (70% refractory to lenalidomide) and had received one to three prior regimens.
