An open competition involving thousands of competitors failed to construct useful abstract classifiers for new diagnostic test accuracy systematic reviews.

There are currently no abstract classifiers, which can be used for new diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) systematic reviews to select primary DTA study abstracts from database searches. Our goal was to develop machine-learning-based abstract classifiers for new DTA systematic reviews through an open competition. We prepared a dataset of abstracts obtained through database searches from 11 reviews in different clinical areas.

Twenty-year follow-up of promising clinical studies reported in highly circulated newspapers: a meta-epidemiological study.

Objectives: Researchers have identified cases in which newspaper stories have exaggerated the results of medical studies reported in original articles. Moreover, the exaggeration sometimes begins with journal articles. We examined what proportion of the studies quoted in newspaper stories were confirmed.

Psychological dysfunction is one of the considerable health-related outcomes among critically-ill patients and their informal caregivers. Follow-up of intensive care unit (ICU) survivors has been conducted in a variety of different ways, with different timing after discharge, targets of interest (physical, psychological, social) and measures used. Of diverse ICU follow-up, the effects of follow-ups which focused on psychological interventions are unknown.

Survival Impact of Second-Line Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Older Patients With Advanced Squamous-Cell NSCLC: Post Hoc Analysis of the CAPITAL Study.

Introduction: In the CAPITAL study, a randomized phase 3 study, wherein carboplatin plus nab-paclitaxel treatment was compared with docetaxel treatment for older patients with squamous-cell lung cancer, the former became the new standard of care for such patients. Our study aimed to evaluate whether the efficacy of second-line immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) affected the primary analysis of overall survival (OS).

Methods: Herein, we performed a post hoc analysis of the impact of second-line ICIs on OS, safety in each group of participants aged more than 75 years, and intracycle nab-paclitaxel skip status.

Clinical benefit of platinum doublet combination therapy in older adults with advanced non-small cell lung cancer: A prospective multicenter study by the National Hospital Organization in Japan.

Background: Previous trials suggest that older adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) derive benefit from platinum doublet combination therapy, but its superiority is controversial. Although geriatric assessment variables are used to assess the individual risk of severe toxicity and clinical outcomes in older patients, the standard first-line treatment is still debated. Therefore, we aimed to identify the risk factors for clinical outcomes in older patients with NSCLC.

Late lumen enlargement after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-coated balloon has contributed to good clinical results. However, late lumen enlargement with drug-coated balloon following rotational atherectomy has not been well reported. This report describes a case of calcified napkin-ring ostial lesion at the left main trunk that showed a sustained lumen area after PCI with drug-coated balloon following rotational atherectomy.

Role of the amygdala-medial orbitofrontal relationship in odor recognition in the elderly.

Introduction: In patients with mild cognitive impairment, pathological changes begin in the amygdala (AMG) and hippocampus (HI), especially in the parahippocampal gyrus and entorhinal cortex (ENT). These areas play an important role in olfactory detection and recognition. It is important to understand how subtle signs of olfactory disability relate to the functions of the above-mentioned regions, as well as the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC).

Importance of TKI treatment duration in treatment-free remission of chronic myeloid leukemia: results of the D-FREE study.

Treatment-free remission (TFR) is a new goal for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase (CML-CP) with a sustained deep molecular response (DMR) to treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). However, optimal conditions for successful TFR in patients treated with second-generation (2G)-TKIs are not fully defined. Clinical Significance of Maximum Intensity Projection Method for Diagnostic Imaging of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.

The aim of this study was to use the magnetic resonance imaging maximum-intensity projection (MRI-MIP) method for diagnostic imaging of thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) and to investigate the stricture ratios of the subclavian artery (SCA), subclavian vein (SCV), and brachial plexus bundle (BP). A total of 113 patients with clinically suspected TOS were evaluated. MRI was performed in a position similar to the Wright test.

Background: Little guidance exists for the treatment of pseudoaneurysm (PA) following pediatric blunt liver and/or spleen injuries (BLSIs). We aimed to describe the incidence of delayed PA development and the subsequent clinical course of PA in pediatric BLSIs.

Proportion attributable to contextual effects in general medicine: a meta-epidemiological study based on Cochrane reviews.

Objectives: Our objectives were to examine the magnitude of the proportion attributable to contextual effects (PCE), which shows what proportion of the treatment arm response can be achieved by the placebo arm across various interventions, and to examine PCE variability by outcome type and condition.

Design: We conducted a meta-epidemiological study.

Setting: We searched the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews with the keyword 'placebo' in titles, abstracts and keywords on 1 January 2020.
