Psychological dysfunction is one of the considerable health-related outcomes among critically-ill patients and their informal caregivers. Follow-up of intensive care unit (ICU) survivors has been conducted in a variety of different ways, with different timing after discharge, targets of interest (physical, psychological, social) and measures used. Of diverse ICU follow-up, the effects of follow-ups which focused on psychological interventions are unknown.

Introduction: In the CAPITAL study, a randomized phase 3 study, wherein carboplatin plus nab-paclitaxel treatment was compared with docetaxel treatment for older patients with squamous-cell lung cancer, the former became the new standard of care for such patients. Our study aimed to evaluate whether the efficacy of second-line immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) affected the primary analysis of overall survival (OS).

Methods: Herein, we performed a post hoc analysis of the impact of second-line ICIs on OS, safety in each group of participants aged more than 75 years, and intracycle nab-paclitaxel skip status.

Background: Previous trials suggest that older adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) derive benefit from platinum doublet combination therapy, but its superiority is controversial. Although geriatric assessment variables are used to assess the individual risk of severe toxicity and clinical outcomes in older patients, the standard first-line treatment is still debated. Therefore, we aimed to identify the risk factors for clinical outcomes in older patients with NSCLC.

Article Synopsis
  • A Phase 3 clinical trial (VIALE-C) showed that venetoclax combined with low-dose cytarabine improved outcomes for newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia patients who couldn't undergo intensive chemotherapy.
  • Following the trial, an expanded access study in Japan provided this treatment to eligible patients, where they received the same dosages and precautions to prevent tumor lysis syndrome.
  • Of the 14 patients enrolled, the most common serious side effect was neutropenia, and while some adverse events occurred, they were manageable, indicating that patient safety remains a priority despite potentially more severe cases in clinical practice.

Late lumen enlargement after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-coated balloon has contributed to good clinical results. However, late lumen enlargement with drug-coated balloon following rotational atherectomy has not been well reported. This report describes a case of calcified napkin-ring ostial lesion at the left main trunk that showed a sustained lumen area after PCI with drug-coated balloon following rotational atherectomy.

Introduction: In patients with mild cognitive impairment, pathological changes begin in the amygdala (AMG) and hippocampus (HI), especially in the parahippocampal gyrus and entorhinal cortex (ENT). These areas play an important role in olfactory detection and recognition. It is important to understand how subtle signs of olfactory disability relate to the functions of the above-mentioned regions, as well as the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC).

Treatment-free remission (TFR) is a new goal for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase (CML-CP) with a sustained deep molecular response (DMR) to treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). However, optimal conditions for successful TFR in patients treated with second-generation (2G)-TKIs are not fully defined. In this D-FREE study, treatment discontinuation was attempted in newly diagnosed CML-CP patients treated with the 2G-TKI dasatinib who achieved BCR-ABL1 levels of ≤ 0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to understand how certain plaque characteristics detected by MDCT and CMR relate to periprocedural myocardial injury (PMI) in patients undergoing elective PCI.
  • It found that patients with PMI had significantly more instances of high-risk plaque (HRP) and high-intensity plaque (HIP) compared to those without PMI, indicating these features can help predict the risk of injury during the procedure.
  • The results suggest that MDCT and CMR are useful tools for identifying high-risk coronary lesions that could lead to PMI after elective PCI procedures.
