Background: Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC) is a rare subtype of pancreatic cancer and the clinicopathological behavior of PACC is not yet fully understood. PACC rarely invades the main pancreatic duct (MPD), which causes intraductal growth. Thus, herein, we have reported a rare case of PACC that invaded the MPD and disseminated to the branches of the pancreatic duct (BDs) without exhibiting any continuity with the main tumor.

Cellular schwannoma is a schwannoma subtype with histopathologic features resembling those of malignant tumors. We report a case of a cellular schwannoma arising at the resection margin of an anterior mediastinal leiomyosarcoma. An 88-year-old woman who had undergone resection of an anterior mediastinal leiomyosarcoma 2 years previously developed a mediastinal tumor at the resection margin, raising suspicion of leiomyosarcoma recurrence.

Aim: We previously reported that abdominal aortic calcification is associated with poor overall and recurrence-free survival after hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the effect of abdominal aortic calcification on cancer-specific prognosis in very old patients with several comorbidities remains unknown. This multicenter study aimed to evaluate the impact of abdominal aortic calcification on the cumulative recurrence rate and recurrence-free survival in patients with HCC aged >80 years.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the association between a new biomarker that incorporates albumin (Alb) and butyrylcholinesterase (BCHE) levels, as well as the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatectomy.
Methods: The study enrolled 1712 patients who underwent primary hepatectomy for HCC between January 2003 and December 2019 at seven institutions belonging to the Hiroshima Surgical Study Group of Clinical Oncology. The entire dataset was randomly split into discovery and validation cohorts in a 7:3 ratio.

: Airway management techniques, including mask ventilation and tracheal intubation, are vital across medical settings. However, these procedures can be challenging, especially when environmental conditions are less than ideal. This study explores how the height of the operating table affects the difficulty of anesthesia techniques involving mask ventilation and tracheal intubation.

Introduction: Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) has been gaining attention as an initial investigation in the management of colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB), yet the role of CE-CT other than its diagnostic yield has not been adequately clarified. We aimed to determine whether the use of urgent CE-CT improves identification of stigmata of recent hemorrhage (SRH) in subsequently performed early colonoscopy (≤24 h of arrival) or other clinical outcomes of CDB.
Methods: We conducted a randomized, open-label, controlled trial at 23 institutions in Japan.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks third in cancer-related deaths globally. Despite treatment advances, high post-hepatectomy recurrence rates (RR), especially with liver fibrosis and hepatitis C virus infection, remain challenging. Key prognostic factors include vascular invasion and perioperative blood loss, impacting extrahepatic recurrence.

Background: Recent advancements in biliary tract cancer (BTC) treatment have expanded beyond surgery to include adjuvant therapy, yet the prognosis remains poor. Identifying prognostic biomarkers could enhance the assessment of patients who have undergone radical resection for BTC.
Aim: To determine transmembrane serine protease 4 (TMPRSS4) utility as a prognostic biomarker of radical resection for BTC.

Objectives: For lung segmentectomy of small lung cancers, we used a microwave surgical instrument for lung parenchymal dissection mainly at the pulmonary hilum, which is difficult to handle with surgical staplers. This technique facilitated the insertion of staples.
Methods: In total, 116 patients with cStage 0-1A3 non-small cell lung cancer who underwent lung segmentectomy were included in this study.

Background: Peritumoral edema (PE) identified on T2-weighted breast MRI is a factor for poor prognosis in breast cancer.
Purpose: To assess the prognostic value of residual PE (rPE) in patients with PE positive breast cancer prior to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) who subsequently underwent curative surgery.
Study Type: Retrospective.

As the adoption of segmentectomy for small-sized lung cancers expands, the need for more challenging completion lobectomy (CL) may arise to address surgical margin recurrence. Herein, we present a case of successful CL using a 4K three-dimensional (3D) (4K3D) endoscopy after segmentectomy. A 77-year-old male patient with lung cancer in the anterior segment (S3) of the left upper lobe underwent S3 segmentectomy.

Objective: We investigated the impact of radiological interstitial lung abnormalities on the postoperative pulmonary functions of patients with non-small cell lung cancer.
Methods: A total of 1191 patients with clinical stage IA non-small cell lung cancer who underwent lung resections and pulmonary function tests ≥ 6 months postoperatively were retrospectively reviewed. Postoperative pulmonary function reduction rates were compared between patients with and without interstitial lung abnormalities and according to the radiological interstitial lung abnormality classifications.

We present the case of a 66-year-old woman undergoing chronic dialysis who developed pneumonia and enteritis after being infected with COVID-19 and had severe wall motion reduction similar to a left ventricular aneurysm. There was concern that the condition might worsen due to left ventricular wall thinning and curious wall motion abnormalities, but echocardiography one month later showed normalization. After four months, simultaneous binuclear myocardial scintigraphy of thallium and BMIPP showed that the mismatch had disappeared.

Background: High-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) exhibits no mass and is not detected by any examination modalities. However, it can be diagnosed by pancreatic juice cytology from indirect findings. Most previous cases were diagnosed based on findings of a focal stricture of the main pancreatic duct (MPD) and caudal MPD dilatation and subsequent pancreatic juice cytology using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

Introduction: To determine the association between changes in pulmonary function before and after surgery, and the subsequent prognosis, of patients with early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: A total of 485 patients who underwent lobectomy or segmentectomy for NSCLC with whole tumor size ≤2 cm and clinical stage IA at 2 institutions were retrospectively reviewed. The relationship between the postoperative reduction rate in vital capacity (VC), forced vital capacity (FVC), and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and overall survival (OS) was investigated.
