Vascularized Origami Medial Femoral Condyle Flap for Finger Joint Reconstruction.

Plast Reconstr Surg

December 2023

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hiroshima Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Hiroshima University.

Total finger joint reconstruction is challenging. Vascularized toe joint transfer is currently used for reconstruction, but it is difficult to perform, fails to achieve maximal joint flexibility, and is associated with donor-site complications. As an alternative, the authors developed a vascularized medial femoral condyle flap technique, wherein the vascularized corticoperiosteum is shaped via origami, with the donor tissue folded to fit the recipient site.

Introduction: The importance of a nutrition scoring system, including the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), was reported as an objective tool widely used to assess nutritional status in patients with inflammatory disease, chronic heart failure, and chronic liver disease. However, studies on the relationship between GNRI and the prognosis in patients who have undergone initial hepatectomy have been limited. Thus, we conducted a multi-institutional cohort study to clarify the relationship between GNRI and long-term outcomes for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients after such a procedure.

LL-37-dsRNA Complexes Modulate Immune Response via RIG-I in Oral Keratinocytes.

Inflammation

June 2023

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, 1-2-3 Kasumi, Minami-Ku, Hiroshima, 734-8553, Japan.

Recognition of nucleic acids as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) promotes an inflammatory response. On the other hand, LL-37, an antimicrobial peptide, is a multifunctional modulator of immune response, though whether it modulates inflammatory responses induced by nucleic acids in oral keratinocytes is unknown. In this study, we firstly investigated the effect of LL-37 on CXCL10 induced by DAMPs and PAMPs in immortalized oral keratinocytes, RT7.
