Onychomycosis with longitudinal spikes in the nail plate has been reported to be refractory to oral drugs as with dermatophytoma. We evaluated the efficacy of 10% efinaconazole solution in the treatment of onychomycosis with longitudinal spikes. Of the 223 subjects who were enrolled in a previous study, a post-hoc analysis of 82 subjects with longitudinal spikes was performed in this study.

Two Cases of Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis With Rare Manifestations Revealed in Medical Checkup Findings.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is characterized by dense infiltration of eosinophils in gastrointestinal tissues, resulting in morphological and functional abnormalities of the gastrointestinal tract. EGE susceptibility is most common among individuals aged 40-50 years old, and hence it is likely that affected patients will be encountered at the time of a medical checkup. In this report, we present two rare cases of EGE that presented interesting manifestations in findings obtained in a fluoroscopic examination performed at an annual medical checkup.

Methods: In this study, 12 RA patients who developed MTX-LPD were assessed. The peripheral blood lymphocyte (PBL) count at the onset of MTX-LPD was compared to that 6 months before the onset, in Epstein-Barr virus-encoded RNA (EBER)-positive and -negative subgroups.

A Simple Method for Measuring Adenosine Triphosphate in Acute Cholangitis Patients to Determine the Need for Emergency Biliary Drainage.

Objective Acute cholangitis is occasionally life-threatening and requires immediate treatment. For the management of acute cases, globally accepted diagnostic criteria and the use of severity grading, as defined in the Tokyo Guidelines 2018 (TG18), are recommended. This study was performed to explore the association between acute cholangitis and the level of adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) in blood as determined with a simple measurement method.

Influence of Type 2 Endoleaks on Long-Term Outcomes after Endovascular Repair for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms: A National Hospital Organization Network Study for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms in Japan.

Background: Although endovascular repair (EVAR) is the first-line treatment for abdominal aortic aneurysm, type 2 endoleak (EL), which is associated with late sac enlargement or rupture, remains a concern. The present study aimed to assess the influence of type 2 EL on long-term outcomes after EVAR.

Methods: Among 550 patients who underwent EVAR between 2007 and 2013 at 14 Japanese national hospitals, 135 patients had type 2 EL diagnosed on follow-up computed tomography (CT) within 12 months after EVAR (EL2[+] group) and 415 patients did not have EL within 12 months (EL2[-] group).

Background: The objectives of this study were: (1) to evaluate the detectability of full-field digital mammography (FFDM) plus dual-mode digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and compare it with that of FFDM alone and (2) to compare the detectability of high-resolution-mode (HR mode used with 40°-angle imaging, 100-µm pixel size, and higher dose) DBT with that of standard-mode (ST mode used with 15°-angle imaging, 150-µm pixel size, and lower dose) DBT for diagnostic evaluation.

Acute Myositis Associated with Concurrent Infection of Rotavirus and Norovirus in a 2-Year-Old Girl.

Although rotavirus occasionally induces central nervous system disease, only 3 cases with rotavirus-induced acute myositis have been reported in the English literature. Adverse Skin Reactions due to Ribavirin in Hepatitis C Combination Therapy with Pegylated Interferon-α2a.

The introduction of ribavirin to hepatitis C combination therapy with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN)-α2a has improved sustained responses, but it has been accompanied by an increased incidence of cutaneous side effects. Most cases of drug eruption caused by ribavirin and PEG-IFN-α2 or IFN-α combination therapy were not severe and we progressed without discontinuation of the antiviral treatment. We describe a 59-year-old Japanese woman with a chronic hepatitis C infection who developed erythema during PEG-IFN-α2a and ribavirin combination therapy.
