Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a malignant lymphoma of the gastrointestinal tract that mostly presents as multiple lymphomatous polyposis (MLP); however, MLP with intussusception is rarely reported in MCL. Furthermore, a single protruding lesion with intussusception has never been reported in primary small intestinal MCL. A 70-year-old man presented with pain in the right lower abdomen.

Introduction: Osteopetrosis is a clinical syndrome characterized by the failure of osteoclasts to resorb bone. Affected patients usually suffer from repetitive fractures due to this pathological state. Surgical treatment of these fractures is often complicated by the difficulty of working with the extremely hard and brittle bones.

While skull base metastases from breast cancer are not uncommon, there are relatively few reported cases in the literature. We report a case of skull base metastasis of breast cancer that resulted in dysphasia, odynophagia, and dysarthria. The case involved a woman in her 50 s who was diagnosed with cancer of the right breast(cT4N1M0, cStage III B)at another medical institution 9 years previously and who underwent a partial mastectomy and an axillary lymph node dissection following neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy(LADG)is a recently developed minimally invasive surgery for management of early gastric cancer. We describe short-term results obtained from a retrospective study of LADG, performed in elderly patients, using comorbidities as predictive factors. We studied 160 patients diagnosed with gastric cancer who underwent LADG between January 2005 and October 2016.

The close relationship between atopic dermatitis (AD) and infective endocarditis (IE) has been implicated. colonization is frequently seen observed in AD patients' skin lesions. Although a case of IE due to bacteremia in an AD patient has been sporadically reported, a case of bacteremia complicated by psoas abscess and IE has not been previously reported.

Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and reactive inflammatory lymphoid changes are frequently difficult to distinguish based on a routine histological differential diagnosis. We were unable to diagnose gastric MALT lymphoma histologically using specimens obtained by endoscopy, although a flow cytometry (FCM) analysis demonstrated clonality of neoplastic cells by separating cells by CD45 gating. Furthermore, a fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis showed trisomy 18.

Objective: To assess the safety and efficacy of infliximab (IFX) for the treatment of patients with Kawasaki disease (KD).
Study Design: This was a nationwide survey of 274 Japanese institutions exploring how IFX was used to treat patients with KD. The patients' sex, age, treatment course, pre- and post-IFX therapy blood test results, coronary artery lesions (CALs), and adverse events (AEs) were evaluated.

Purpose: Our aim was to assess the patterns of practice and treatment outcomes of definitive radiotherapy (RT) for vaginal cancer in Japan.
Materials And Methods: RT methods and outcomes of patients with vaginal cancer treated with definitive RT or chemoradiotherapy at 10 institutes of the Japanese Radiation Oncology Study Group between January 2000 and March 2010 were retrospectively evaluated.
Results: A total of 90 patients were enrolled in the study.

Background: To identify factors related to relapse sites, we carried out an exploratory biomarker analysis of data from the Adjuvant Chemotherapy Trial of TS-1 for Gastric Cancer study, which is a randomized, controlled trial comparing postoperative adjuvant S-1 therapy with surgery alone in 1,059 patients with stage II/III gastric cancer.
Patients And Methods: Surgical specimens from 829 patients were retrospectively examined, and 63 genes involved in a variety of biological processes were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR. Gene expression normalized to reference genes was categorized as lower or higher than the median, and association with relapse sites was analyzed based on 5-year relapse-free survival.

A 45-year-old man presented with a 24-mm macrocystic lesion at the pancreatic head, which was detected by computed tomography (CT). During six years of follow-up, CT, MRI, and endosonographic images of the cystic lesion showed that the cystic lesion had enlarged to 42mm, with the appearance of a thick cyst wall. Since a cystic tumor could not be ruled out, surgery was performed.

Background: Germline heterozygous mutations in human signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) can cause loss of function (LOF), as in patients with Mendelian susceptibility to mycobacterial diseases, or gain of function (GOF), as in patients with chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis. LOF and GOF mutations are equally rare and can affect the same domains of STAT1, especially the coiled-coil domain (CCD) and DNA-binding domain (DBD). Moreover, 6% of patients with chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis with a GOF STAT1 mutation have mycobacterial disease, obscuring the functional significance of the identified STAT1 mutations.

The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the exposure of the examiner to radiation during myelography versus radiculography and root block.
Methods: A total of 114 examinations were performed in our institute in the 6 months.

Background: Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis 2 (PFIC2) is the result of mutations in the ABCB11, which encodes for bile salt export pump (BSEP). An absence of BSEP in the canalicular membrane causes cholestasis and leads to the development of end-stage liver disease in the first decade of life. Liver transplantation (LT) has been considered curative for BSEP disease.

Purpose: The long-term outcomes of whole-breast and boost irradiation after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for patients with breast cancer were retrospectively analyzed.
Materials And Methods: Patients who received whole-breast and boost irradiation after BCS from 1990 to 2002 were included. Boost irradiation was administered to each tumor bed, regardless of the surgical margin status.

Background: Exploratory biomarker analysis was conducted to identify factors related to the outcomes of patients with stage II/III gastric cancer using data from the Adjuvant Chemotherapy Trial of S-1 for Gastric Cancer, which was a randomized controlled study comparing the administration of an orally active combination of tegafur, gimeracil, and oteracil with surgery alone.
Methods: Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded surgical specimens from 829 patients were retrospectively examined, and 63 genes were analyzed by quantitative real-time RT-PCR after TaqMan assay-based pre-amplification. Gene expression was normalized to the geometric mean of GAPDH, ACTB, and RPLP0 as reference genes, and categorized into low and high values based on the median.

Background: Respiratory virus-induced wheezing, such as that induced by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human rhinovirus, is an important risk factor for recurrent wheezing and childhood asthma. However, no biomarkers for predicting recurrent wheezing have been identified.
Objective: We searched for predictors of recurrent wheezing using nasopharyngeal aspirates obtained from patients during the first wheezing episode who were hospitalized with an acute lower respiratory tract illness.

Although a thyroglossal duct cyst is a congenital anomaly, it can also appear in adults. Despite the presence of embryological remnants, it is still unclear why the cyst should suddenly develop later in life. We report a case of a 46-year-old male with an extravasation mucocele arising from a long-standing lingual thyroglossal duct remnant.

Background: We conducted a phase III study to evaluate S-1 as compared with UFT as control in patients after curative therapy for stage III, IVA, or IVB squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).
Patients And Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to the UFT group (300 or 400 mg day-1 for 1 year) or the S-1 group (80, 100, or 120 mg day-1 for 1 year). The primary end point was disease-free survival (DFS).
