Purpose: The study was performed to examine the error associated with image superimposition when computed tomography (CT) images of the dental region are substituted with dental scan data, according to the block-out material used in dental impressions.

Materials And Methods: A typodont model was created by bonding orthodontic brackets to teeth on plaster dental stones using melted dental base-plate wax. In the experiment, 2 groups were compared: one using wax and the other using putty as the block-out material to prevent tearing of the impression material during the acquisition of dental impressions.

Background: Intensive blood pressure (BP) management within 24 h after successful reperfusion following endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is associated with worse functional outcomes than conventional BP management in Asian randomized controlled trials. Given the high prevalence of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) in Asia, ICAS may influence these outcomes.

Aims: We aimed to assess whether ICAS affects the outcomes of intensive BP management after successful EVT.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how a deep learning computer-aided detection (DL-CAD) and an electronic notification system (ENS) impacted the time it takes to treat patients suspected of having pneumothorax (PTX) in a real clinical setting.
  • After implementing the DL-CAD-ENS in May 2022 at a large hospital, researchers compared treatment times between two groups: one using both DL-CAD and ENS, and another using only DL-CAD, analyzing data from January 2018 to April 2023.
  • Results showed a significant decrease in time to provide oxygen therapy for the group using DL-CAD-ENS compared to the CAD-only group, but no significant changes in treatment times for other interventions

  • Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is critical for treating sepsis-related acute kidney injury (AKI), but its ideal timing is debated; this study focused on the effects of starting continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) within 6 hours of AKI onset.
  • Analyzing data from the MIMIC-IV database, the study found that patients who received early CKRT had a significantly lower 28-day mortality rate compared to those who started later (26.7% vs. 43.9%).
  • Additionally, early CKRT patients experienced more days without needing mechanical ventilation or vasopressors, indicating better overall clinical outcomes despite no significant difference when comparing CKRT initiation within 12 hours versus later.

October 2024

Department of Immunology and Biotherapy, Key Laboratory of Cancer Immunology and Biotherapy, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin's Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, Tianjin, China.

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the effects of short-term use of antihistamines alongside immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in patients with advanced lung cancer to see if it improved treatment efficacy and reduced immune-related side effects.
  • The research analyzed 211 patient records, dividing them into two groups: 109 patients who received H1 antihistamines during ICI treatment and 102 who did not.
  • Results showed significantly better median progression-free survival (12.7 months vs. 4.3 months) and overall survival (32.8 months vs. 18.1 months) in the experimental group, suggesting that H1 antihistamines may be beneficial as a complementary treatment.

Romosozumab following anti-resorptive can be an effective sequential treatment strategy to improve bone strength. However, whether the transition to romosozumab after denosumab is associated with greater improvement in bone mineral density (BMD) and trabecular bone score (TBS) compared to denosumab continuation remains unclear. In this propensity score-matched cohort study, we analyzed data from postmenopausal women who initiated denosumab between 2017 and 2020.
