Viral diarrhea is the predominant digestive tract sickness in piglings, resulting in substantial profit losses in the porcine industry. Porcine rotavirus A (PoRVA) and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) are the main causes of grave gastroenteritis and massive dysentery, especially in piglets. PoRVA and PEDV have high transmissibility, exhibit similar clinical symptoms, and frequently co-occur.

The mammary gland undergoes significant physiological changes as it undergoes a transition from virgin to pregnancy, lactation, and involution. However, the dynamic role of proteins in regulating these processes during mouse mammary gland development has not been thoroughly explored. In this study, we collected mouse mammary gland tissues from mature virgins aged 8-10 weeks (V), day 16 of pregnancy (P16d), day 12 of lactation (L12d), day 1 of forced weaning (FW 1d), and day 3 of forced weaning (FW 3d) stages for analysis using DIA-based quantitative proteomics technology.

Introduction: African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a highly contagious virus that spreads rapidly and has a mortality rate of up to 100% in domestic pigs, leading to significant economic losses in the pig industry. The major capsid protein p72 of ASFV plays a critical role in viral invasion and immune evasion.
Methods: In this study, we used yeast two-hybrid screening to identify host proteins interacting with p72 in porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs) and verified these proteins using confocal microscopy and immunoprecipitation techniques.

In female mammals, the proliferation and apoptosis of granulosa cells (GCs) have been shown to determine the fate of follicles. DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) and have been reported to be involved in the survival of GCs and follicular growth. However, the molecular mechanisms enabling DNMTs to regulate the expression of to participate in follicular growth are unclear.

Vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGFB) has been well demonstrated to play a crucial role in regulating vascular function by binding to the VEGF receptors (VEGFRs). However, the specific role of VEGFB and VEGFRs in pubertal mammary gland development remains unclear. In this study, we observed that blocking the VEGF receptors with Axitinib suppressed the pubertal mammary gland development.

Background: There was significant difference in muscle development between fat-type and lean-type pig breeds.
Methods And Results: In current study, transcriptome analysis and bioinformatics analysis were used to compare the difference in longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle at three time-points (38 days post coitus (dpc), 58 dpc, and 78 dpc ) between Huainan (HN) and Large white (LW) pig breeds. A total of 24500 transcripts were obtained in 18 samples, and 2319, 2799, and 3713 differently expressed genes (DEGs) were identified between these two breeds at 38 dpc, 58 dpc, and 78 dpc, respectively.

Skeletal muscle is not only the largest organ in the body that is responsible for locomotion and exercise but also crucial for maintaining the body's energy metabolism and endocrine secretion. The trimethylation of histone H3 lysine 27 (H3K27me3) is one of the most important histone modifications that participates in muscle development regulation by repressing the transcription of genes. Previous studies indicate that the gene is regulated by H3K27me3 in embryonic muscle development in pigs, but its function and regulatory role in myogenesis are still unclear.

Phages are among the most widely spread viruses, but their profiles and the antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) they carry in swine wastewater remain underexplored. The present study investigated the distribution characteristics of phages and their ARG risk in anoxic/oxic (A/O) wastewater treatment processes of swine farms using short- and long-read metagenome and virome. The results demonstrated that the virome could extract more phage sequences than the total metagenome; thus, it was more suited for studying phages in wastewater settings.

Introduction: Global warming augments the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in vulnerable expectant mothers. Pioneering investigations into heat stress (HS) have predominantly centered on its direct impact on reproductive functions, while the potential roles of gut microbiota, despite its significant influence on distant tissues, remain largely unexplored. Our understanding of deleterious mechanisms of HS and the development of effective intervention strategies to mitigate the detrimental impacts are still limited.

Background: Domesticated pigs serve as an ideal animal model for biomedical research and also provide the majority of meat for human consumption in China. Porcine intramuscular fat content associates with human health and diseases and is essential in pork quality. The molecular mechanisms controlling lipid metabolism and intramuscular fat accretion across tissues in pigs, and how these changes in response to pig breeds, remain largely unknown.

This study aimed to determine the effect of prostaglandin F (PGF) analog (-cloprostenol sodium and -cloprostenol sodium) administration on the milk yield of multiparous sows (MS) and piglet growth performance. In total, 320 Landrace×Yorkshire parturient MS were randomly divided into three groups on day 115 of pregnancy: without treatment ( = 50), with 75 μg -cloprostenol sodium ( = 137), and with 200 μg -cloprostenol sodium ( = 133). After delivery, the sows treated with -cloprostenol sodium and -cloprostenol sodium were randomly allocated into three subgroups, respectively: (i) no additional treatment after farrowing; (ii) administration of cloprostenol sodium at 3 h and 5 days after farrowing; and (iii) administration of cloprostenol sodium at 3 h, 5 days, and 10 days after farrowing.

However, a few previous studies have shown no or small improvement in prediction accuracy using WGS data. Incorporating prior biological information into GP seems to be an attractive strategy that might improve prediction accuracy.

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are emerging pollutants that enter the farm and surrounding environment via the manure of antibiotic-treated animals. Pretreatment of livestock manure by composting decreases ARGs abundance, but how antibiotic residues affect ARGs removal efficiency remains poorly understood. Here, we explored the fate of the resistome under different doxycycline residue levels during aerobic swine manure composting.

Metabolites derived from the intestinal microbiota play an important role in maintaining skeletal muscle growth, function, and metabolism. Here, we found that D-malate (DMA) is produced by mouse intestinal microorganisms and its levels increase during aging. Moreover, we observed that dietary supplementation of 2% DMA inhibits metabolism in mice, resulting in reduced muscle mass, strength, and the number of blood vessels, as well as the skeletal muscle fiber type I/IIb ratio.

Tetracycline antibiotics play a vital role in animal husbandry, primarily employed to uphold the health of livestock and poultry. Consequently, when manure is reintegrated into farmland, tetracycline antibiotics can persist in the soil. Simultaneously, to ensure optimal crop production, organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are frequently applied to farmland.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is a viral pathogen with substantial economic implications for the global swine industry. The existing vaccination strategies and antiviral drugs offer limited protection. Replication of the viral RNA genome encompasses a complex series of steps, wherein a replication complex is assembled from various components derived from both viral and cellular sources, as well as from the viral genomic RNA template.
