Over the past few decades, Swahili-English and Lithuanian-English word pair databases have been extensively utilized in research on learning and memory. However, these normative databases are specifically designed for generating study stimuli in learning and memory research involving native (or fluent) English speakers. Consequently, they are not suitable for investigations that encompass populations whose first language is not English, such as Chinese individuals.

Introduction: Family and school environments are pivotal in adolescent development. However, the simultaneous examination of adversities in both domains remains understudied. Based on bioecological and spillover theories, this study aimed to bridge this research gap by using latent profile analysis to identify distinct patterns of family adversity and bullying involvement among Chinese adolescents.

Background: Individuals with a history of childhood maltreatment commonly experience the co-occurrence of complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) and depression, but the underlying mechanisms of their comorbidities remain unclear.
Methods: We recruited 2740 college students, including 1366 who experienced childhood maltreatment to assess the co-occurrence network of CPTSD and depression symptoms. We constructed a Gaussian graphical model to visualize the associations between symptoms and a directed acyclic graph to explore inferred relationships among symptoms.

Introduction: Adolescents' self-esteem is often associated with their mental health, and believed to be a protective factor against depression, anxiety, and stress. However, the underlying mechanisms of this relationship warrant further exploration. Employing a longitudinal design, this study investigates the relations between self-esteem and mental health in adolescents, considering the mediating influence of self-control and the moderating effect of parental autonomy support.

Emotion and cognition involve an intricate crosstalk of neural and endocrine systems that support dynamic reallocation of neural resources and optimal adaptation for upcoming challenges, an active process analogous to allostasis. As a hallmark of human endocrine activity, the cortisol awakening response (CAR) is recognized to play a critical role in proactively modulating emotional and executive functions. Yet, the underlying mechanisms of such proactive effects remain elusive.

Parents of children with autism often experience a wide range of emotions in their daily lives. However, previous research has primarily focused on average levels of emotional challenges, neglecting the significance of daily emotion dynamics that may underlie parental psychological functioning. This study adopted a dynamic network approach to examine the strength of temporal connections within and between various emotions-referred to as emotion network density-and further explore its impacts on parental psychological distress.

Previous studies have identified narcissism as one of the dark triad personalities. However, contradictory findings were found regarding the relationship between grandiose narcissism and prosocial behaviors. The present research further explored their relationships and reconciled the contradictions by distinguishing between narcissistic admiration and rivalry facets, as well as investigating the bidirectional relationships between narcissism and prosocial behaviors, and the mediating effect of basic psychological needs satisfaction/frustration.

In everyday conversation, bilingual individuals switch between their languages not only in reaction to monolinguals with different language profiles but also voluntarily and naturally. However, whether and how various switching contexts dynamically modulate domain-general cognitive control is still unclear. Using a cross-task paradigm in which a flanker task was interleaved with a language-switching task trial-by-trial, the present study examined the performance of unbalanced Chinese-English bilinguals on a flanker task in forced, voluntary, and natural switching contexts.

Background: Childhood maltreatment is often associated with comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression, but the impact of different types of maltreatment on this comorbidity is not well understood.
Methods: Using network analysis, we examined differences in comorbidity patterns of PTSD and depression symptoms among college students who experienced different forms of childhood maltreatment. We selected a subsample of 2968 students (M = 19.

Discovering meaningful brain-clinical patterns would be a significant advancement for elucidating the pathophysiology underlying schizophrenia. In the present study, we analyzed associations between functional brain characters (average functional connectivity strength and its fluctuations) and clinical features (age onset, illness duration, and positive, negative, disorganized, excited, and depressed) using partial least squares. Also, we analyzed the brain-clinical relationship changes after 6-wk of treatment.

Unlabelled: Tasks with high mental workload often involve higher cognitive functions of the human brain and complex information flow involving multiple brain regions. However, the dynamics of functional connectivity between brain regions during high mental workload have not been well-studied. We use an analysis approach designed to find repeating network states from gamma-band phase locking value networks built from electroencephalograph data collected while participants engaged in tasks with different levels of mental workload.

The ongoing brain activity serves as a baseline that supports both internal and external cognitive processes. However, its precise nature remains unclear. Considering that people display various patterns of brain activity even when engaging in the same task, it is reasonable to believe that individuals possess their unique brain baseline pattern.

Introduction: Procrastination is very common among college students, but there is a lack of consistency in the relationship between procrastination and academic achievement, which might be partly caused by the limitations of previous procrastination scales. The current study constructed the Situational Procrastination Scale (SPS) with two subscales, the Academic Situational Procrastination Scale (ASPS) and the Daily Life Situational Procrastination Scale (DSPS), by adapting previous procrastination scales.
Method: The valid sample for data analysis included 2,094 medical undergraduates.

Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) inertia is the temporary dependency of RSA levels between consecutive epochs, which captures the epoch-to-epoch stickiness of RSA reactivity. Previous studies examining the developmental function of between-task RSA reactivity have yielded mixed findings and have often overlooked RSA reactivity within the task. The present study examined whether RSA inertia during a stress task was associated with subsequent changes in child psychopathology symptoms.

Mindfulness plays an important role in reducing post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and promoting posttraumatic growth (PTG) among traumatized populations. However, the mechanism at the emotional level has not been fully examined. Thus, we aimed to investigate the possible mediating roles of trauma-related shame and guilt.
