Investigating the potential of novel data mining algorithms (DMAs) for modeling groundwater quality in coastal areas is an important requirement for groundwater resource management, especially in the coastal region of Bangladesh where groundwater is highly contaminated. In this work, the applicability of DMA, including Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), Bayesian Ridge Regression (BRR) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), for predicting groundwater quality in coastal areas was investigated. The optuna-based optimized hyperparameter is proposed to improve the accuracy of the models, including optuna-GPR and optuna-BRR as benchmark models.

The BCG vaccine, Bacille Calmette Guerin, holds the distinction of being the most widely administered vaccine. Remarkably, a century has passed since its discovery; however, puzzlingly, questions persist regarding the effectiveness of the immune response it triggers. After years of diligent observation, it has been deduced that BCG imparts immunity primarily to a specific age group, namely children.

Climate change is a significant risk multiplier and profoundly influences the transmission dynamics, geographical distribution, and resurgence of vector-borne diseases (VBDs). Bangladesh has a noticeable rise in VBDs attributed to climate change. Despite the severity of this issue, the interconnections between climate change and VBDs in Bangladesh have yet to be thoroughly explored.

Copper metalloenzymes ascorbate oxidase (AOase), amine oxidase (AmOase), and catechol oxidase (COase) possess copper(II) sites of coordination, which are trimeric, homodimeric, and dimeric, respectively. Two newly mononuclear copper(II) complexes, namely, [Cu(L)(bpy)](ClO) (1) and [Cu(L)(phen)](ClO) (2) where HL = Schiff base, have been synthesized. UV-visible, EPR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction examinations were used to validate the geometry in solution and solid state.

Atrazine (ATZ, CHClN) is a widely used synthetic herbicide that contaminates drinking water. It is a known endocrine disruptor that disrupts various molecular pathways involved in hormone signaling, and DNA damage, and can cause reproductive disorders, including decreased fertility, and abnormal development of reproductive organs, as revealed in animal model studies. However, the effect of ATZ on steroidogenesis in the male reproductive system, especially reduction of ketosteroids to hydroxysteroids, remains unclear.

The antioxidant defense mechanisms play a critical role in mitigating the deleterious effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Catalase stands out as a paramount enzymatic antioxidant. It efficiently catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (HO) into water and oxygen, a potentially harmful byproduct of cellular metabolism.

Understanding the major factors influencing groundwater chemistry and its evolution in irrigation areas is crucial for efficient irrigation management. Major ions and isotopes (δD-HO together with δO-HO) were used to identify the natural and anthropogenic factors contributing to groundwater salinization in the shallow aquifer of the Wadi Guenniche Plain (WGP) in the Mediterranean region of Tunisia. A comprehensive geochemical investigation of groundwater was conducted during both the low irrigation season (L-IR) and the high irrigation season (H-IR).

Sixty-eight morphologically distinct isolates of marine actinomycetes were derived from seashore, mangrove, and saltpan ecosystems located between the Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar region, Bay of Bengal, Tamilnadu. Twenty-five (36.8%) isolates exhibited anti-mycotic activity against Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans in preliminary screening, and 4 isolates with prominent activity were identified and designated at the genus level as Streptomyces sp.

In this study, the synthesis of biologically active copper(II) complex [Cu(im)]Cl was achieved using a reported method. Subsequently, this copper(II) complex was strategically grafted onto graphene oxide, resulting in the formation of a nanocomposite denoted as copper(II)-complex-grafted graphene oxide (Cu-GO). The comprehensive characterization of Cu-GO was conducted through various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-visible spectroscopy, emission spectra analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Copper K-edge X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) spectroscopy.

Biogenically derived silica nanoparticles may serve as a well-defined target vehicle for drug delivery and have a wide range of applications in biomedicine. Silica nanoparticles are an excellent candidate as drug carriers due to their mesoporous structure, high drug loading capacity, low toxicity, environmental friendliness and low economic synthesis procedures. In this study, nano structured silica was extracted from sugarcane bagasse through an alkali leaching extraction and conjugated with extract overcoming its poor solubility and improving its bioavailability within the host system.

The rapid advancement of molecular research on macromolecules has contributed to the discovery of 'Lectin', a carbohydrate-binding protein which specifically interacts with receptors on the surface of glycans and regulates various cellular activities thereby stimulating immunological functions. Considering the wide variety of sources and immunological significance, research has led to the discovery of lectins in invertebrate molluscs. Such lectins in molluscs mediate active immune response as they lack adaptive immunity.

Microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) of metals is an important industrial problem, causing 300-500 billion dollars of economic loss worldwide each year. It is very challenging to prevent or control the MIC in the marine environment. Eco-friendly coatings embedded with corrosion inhibitors developed from natural products may be a successful approach for MIC prevention or control.
