Although uncoupling protein 4 (UCP4) is the most abundant protein reported in the brain, the biological function of UCP4 in cerebellum and pathological outcome of UCP4 deficiency in cerebellum remain obscure. To evaluate the role of Ucp4 in the cerebellar Purkinje cells (PCs), we generated the conditional knockdown of Ucp4 in PCs (Pcp2;Ucp4 mice) by breeding Ucp4 mice with Pcp2 mice. Series results by Western blot, immunofluorescent staining, and triple RNAscope in situ hybridization confirmed the specific ablation of Ucp4 in PCs in Pcp2;Ucp4 mice, but did not affect the expression of Ucp2, the analog of Ucp4.

This article presents a technique for fabricating two-piece labial guides using resin and cobalt-chromium for guided alveoloplasty, implant placement, and immediate full-arch implant-supported fixed complete denture placement. This technique reduces tissue damage and overcomes the negative effect of the anatomical position of the palatal neuropore and mobility of the tissue flap on the positioning and stability of the guide. The use of labial retention metal guides with improved mechanical properties of cobalt-chromium and fixation plugs allows the unilateral placement of the guide.

The capacity of a tissue to continuously alter its phenotype lies at the heart of how an animal is able to quickly adapt to changes in environmental stimuli. Within tissues, differentiated cells are rigid and play a limited role in adapting to new environments; however, differentiated cells are replenished by stem cells that are defined by their phenotypic plasticity. Here we demonstrate that a Wnt-responsive stem cell niche in the junctional epithelium is responsible for the capability of this tissue to quickly adapt to changes in the physical consistency of a diet.

Interspecies comparisons of the extracellular matrix of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condylar cartilage are necessary to elucidate the mechanisms underlying its superior mechanical properties, to guide the construction of animal models of TMJ-related diseases, and to establish standards for the engineering of TMJ condylar cartilage. Here we characterize and compare TMJ condylar cartilage from six different species from a materials science perspective, including structure, composition and mechanical properties from the macroscopic to the microscopic level. The gross morphology showed obvious interspecies differences in size and shape, which may be related to the different joint motion patterns.
