The Distribution of HR-HPV E6/E7 DNA and mRNA by Histological Grade and the Clinical Performance for Detection of Cervical Cancer and Precancer.

J Med Virol

November 2024

National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecologic Diseases, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

High-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) testing, utilizing both DNA and RNA methods, offers enhanced sensitivity compared to cytology for detecting high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2+). Meanwhile, HR-HPV E6 and E7 mRNAs are more likely to differentiate the transient infection from the persistent than DNA. Aptima HPV can not only detect HPV mRNA but also HPV DNA though it is much more efficient at detecting HPV RNA than DNA.

To determine the carrier frequency and hot-spot variants of a custom-designed expanded carrier screening (ECS) panel with 216 diseases (216-ECS panel) within a Chinese population of childbearing age. Whole-exome sequencing data from a cohort of 3 097 unrelated healthy individuals (including 1 424 couples) from Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2013 and December 2023 were analyzed. Totally 220 genes which inherited in a recessive manner of 216-ECS panel were included in the analysis.

Predicting monotherapy resistance risk in patients with low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia: integration of the systemic immune-inflammation index and the prognostic nutritional index.

Front Oncol

October 2024

Laboratory of Gynecologic Oncology, Fujian Maternity and Child Health Hospital, College of Clinical Medicine for Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou, Fujian, China.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates whether combining the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) can effectively identify low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) patients who may resist monotherapy.
  • It included a retrospective analysis of 91 patients treated between 2013 and 2021, where higher SII and lower PNI scores were linked to chemotherapy resistance.
  • Findings suggest that the SII-PNI score serves as a significant independent risk factor for resistance, with increased scores correlating with a higher percentage of resistant patients and delayed hCG normalization.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecologic Diseases, No. 1 Shuaifuyuan, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Severe postpartum hemorrhage (SPPH) is a critical maternal health issue, particularly associated with placenta previa and low-lying placenta, and its prevalence is concerningly increasing in recent years.* -
  • A study analyzing data from 14,964 women showed a 1.3% overall SPPH rate, but this rose to 18.9% among women with placenta previa or low-lying placenta, highlighting weight and severe placenta conditions as significant risk factors.* -
  • The research emphasizes the importance of antenatal risk assessments for SPPH in these at-risk populations, as the placenta accreta spectrum was found to be a major predictor, warranting timely intervention.*

Article Synopsis
  • Glucose metabolism is vital for the functioning of granulosa cells and the development of ovarian follicles, and disruptions in this process may affect female fertility, particularly in young women with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR).
  • The study compares granulosa cells from 72 DOR patients to 75 women with normal ovarian reserve, using various analytical methods to assess changes in glucose-energy metabolism.
  • Findings indicate downregulation of key genes and metabolites related to glucose metabolism in DOR patients, reduced mitochondrial function, and impaired energy production, which collectively hinder follicle development and maturation.

Int J Gynaecol Obstet

September 2024

National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecologic Diseases, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed 50 cases of Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors (SLCTs) to understand their clinical features, treatment methods, and outcomes, finding that the majority of patients were under 45 years old.
  • - Results showed that 90% of patients achieved clinical remission, with the prognosis being generally favorable for early-stage tumors, while advanced and aggressive variants experienced worse outcomes.
  • - The research suggests that fertility-sparing surgery is a viable treatment option for patients with early-stage SLCTs, with some patients successfully giving birth to healthy babies post-treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • - Neovaginas can be surgically created for women with MRKH syndrome or during gender-affirming surgery, and studying their microbiota is essential for effective management.
  • - A longitudinal study showed that the neovaginal microbiota initially had random characteristics with an increase in Enterococcus faecalis and Mycoplasmas, but evolved to resemble a normal vagina within 6-12 months after surgery.
  • - By 2-4 years post-surgery, the neovaginal microbiota aligned more closely with pre-surgery microbiota, particularly with the presence of Lactobacillus crispatus, indicating its association with vaginal health and opportunities for enhancing its colonization.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecologic Diseases, No. 1 ShuaiFuYuan, Dongcheng District, Beijing, 100730, China.

Background: Around 4% of women receive an endometrial cancer diagnosis before turning 40, mainly those without prior childbirth experience and a strong desire to preserve their ability to conceive. Consequently, for young patients diagnosed with atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) or early endometrial carcinoma (EC), a fertility-preserving approach employing high-dose oral progesterone has been adopted. However, previous research has shown a notable relapse rate.

August 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College, National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecologic Diseases, Beijing 100730, China.

Pregnancy-associated pulmonary embolism (PE) is a type of venous thromboembolism (VTE) that seriously threatens the lives of pregnant women and has gained more attention in clinical practice. Due to physiological and anatomical characteristics, the incidence of VTE during pregnancy and postpartum is significantly higher than that during non-pregnancy periods. Currently, guidelines widely acknowledge the exploration of appropriate risk assessment models to evaluate the risk of pregnancy-associated VTE and to take corresponding preventive measures from mechanical to medication methods according to different risk levels.
