Injectable bioresponsive bone adhesive hydrogels inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome on demand to accelerate diabetic fracture healing.

Diabetes is associated with excessive inflammation, which negatively impacts the fracture healing process and delays bone repair. Previously, growing evidence indicated that activation of the nod-like receptor (NLR) family, such as nod-like receptor thermal protein domain-associated protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome induces a vicious cycle of chronic low-grade inflammatory responses in diabetic fracture. Here, we describe the synthesis of a bone adhesive hydrogel that can be locally injected into the fracture site and releases a natural inhibitor of NLRP3 (rutin) in response to pathological cue reactive oxygen species activity (ROS).

Acoustic Exaggeration Enhances Speech Discrimination in Young Autistic Children.

Child-directed speech (CDS), which amplifies acoustic and social features of speech during interactions with young children, promotes typical phonetic and language development. In autism, both behavioral and brain data indicate reduced sensitivity to human speech, which predicts absent, decreased, or atypical benefits of exaggerated speech signals such as CDS. This study investigates the impact of exaggerated fundamental frequency (F0) and voice-onset time on the neural processing of speech sounds in 22 Chinese-speaking autistic children aged 2-7 years old with a history of speech delays, compared with 25 typically developing (TD) peers.

Indocyanine Green Fluorescence Plus Blue Dye for Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Patients Undergoing Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer: A Multicenter, Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) using radioisotope tracer plus blue dye is the gold standard after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in initially cN1 breast cancer patients, but clinical use still has limitations. This study aims to examine diagnostic performance of dual indocyanine green (ICG) and methylene blue tracing for SLNB in patients who have completed NAC for breast cancer with initially cN1 disease.

Methods: Adult women (20-80 years of age) scheduled to undergo NAC for biopsy-proven cT0-3N1M0 primary invasive breast cancer were consecutively enrolled in this prospective, multicenter, cohort study.

Labiaplasty, the most commonly performed FGCS, consists of a surgical procedure to decrease the inner labia size so that no or less tissue protrudes beyond the outer labia. Anatomically, it is similar to female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) Type 2a.

Prediction of late-onset preeclampsia using plasma proteomics: a longitudinal multi-cohort study.

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy disorder with substantial perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality. Pregnant women at risk of preeclampsia would benefit from early detection for follow-up, timely interventions and delivery. Several attempts have been made to identify protein biomarkers of preeclampsia, but findings vary with demographics, clinical characteristics, and time of sampling.

Trends in the survival of very preterm infants between 2011 and 2020 in France.

Objective: The objective is to evaluate changes in survival to discharge of liveborn infants less than 32 weeks' gestational age (GA) in France, where the latest available data on very preterm survival at a national-level are from the EPIPAGE-2 cohort in 2011.

Design: Population-based cohort study.

Setting: Metropolitan France in 2011, 2015 and 2020.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to cross-culturally translate a questionnaire about gynecological and pelvic pain symptoms (ENDOPAIN-4D) patient-reported outcome measurement (PROM) into Chinese and evaluate its reliability and validity.

Methods: The questionnaire was translated according to Brislin's classic back-translation model. We conducted cultural debugging through cognitive interviews with Chinese-speaking women who had experienced pelvic pain (n = 24).

The impact of uterine cavity structural features on reproductive outcomes in T-shaped uterine malformation.

Objectives: Despite advancements in modern medicine, the effectiveness of in vitro fertilization (IVF) remains low. This study aimed to assess the impact of specific features of T-shaped uterine cavity malformation and its intermediate forms on reproductive function and the effectiveness of assisted reproductive technology (ART), particularly on IVF results and pregnancy outcomes.

Methods: A prospective cohort study included 388 somatically healthy patients undergoing 3D ultrasound (US) examination of the uterine cavity before embryonic transfer for IVF treatment.

Burn injuries remain a major clinical problem worldwide, which require special management by experienced plastic surgeons. However, they cannot be available in every healthcare unit; consequently, there is a need for effective treatment options that could be utilized by a wide range of non-expert healthcare professionals. The aim of the present experimental study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of using a fibrin sealant (TISSEEL) compared to the conventional treatment with sulfadiazine on partial-thickness burn in a rat animal model.

Some Human Anti-Glycan Antibodies Lack the Ability to Activate the Complement System.

Naturally occurring human antibodies against glycans recognize and quickly eliminate infectious bacteria, viruses and aberrantly glycosylated neoplastic malignant cells, and they often initiate processes that involve the complement system. Using a printed glycan array (PGA) containing 605 glycoligands (oligo- and polysaccharides, glycopeptides), we examined which of the glycan-binding antibodies are able to activate the complement system. Using this PGA, the specificities of antibodies of the IgM and IgG classes were determined in the blood serum of healthy donors (suggested as mostly natural), and, then, using the same array, it was determined which types of the bound immunoglobulins were also showing C3 deposition.

Monkeypox virus infection in pregnancy: description of two cases reported to the Colombian National Institute of Health.

Monkeypox (mpox), caused by the MPOXV (monkeypox virus), has been endemic in Africa since its first identification in 1958. However, in May 2022, the world witnessed the first global outbreak associated with the West African clade. Even though thousands of cases have been recorded, our understanding of vertical transmission during pregnancy remains restricted due to an absence of reported cases in pregnant women and a lack of adequate clinical descriptions.

Background: The presence of predominantly headless sperm in semen is a hallmark of acephalic spermatozoa syndrome, which is primarily caused by gene mutations in humans.

Purpose: To identify genetic causes for acephalic spermatozoa syndrome.

Methods: Polymerase chain reaction and Sanger sequencing were performed to define mutations in SUN5 and PMFBP1.

Impact of dementia and mild cognitive impairment on bone health in older people.

Mild cognitive impairment, dementia and osteoporosis are common diseases of ageing and, with the increasingly ageing global population, are increasing in prevalence. These conditions are closely associated, with shared risk factors, common underlying biological mechanisms and potential direct causal pathways. In this review, the epidemiological and mechanistic links between mild cognitive impairment, dementia and skeletal health are explored.

TOURISM study (Treatment Outcomes in UteRIne SarcoMa): a 10-year retrospective evaluation of practice in the UK.

Vodobatinib overcomes cancer multidrug resistance by attenuating the drug efflux function of ABCB1 and ABCG2.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) remains a significant obstacle in cancer treatment, primarily attributable to the overexpression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters such as ABCB1 and ABCG2 within cancer cells. These transporters actively diminish the effectiveness of cytotoxic drugs by facilitating ATP hydrolysis-dependent drug efflux, thereby reducing intracellular drug accumulation. Given the absence of approved treatments for multidrug-resistant cancers and the established benefits of combining tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) with conventional anticancer drugs, we investigate the potential of vodobatinib, a potent c-Abl TKI presently in clinical trials, to restore sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents in multidrug-resistant cancer cells overexpressing ABCB1 and ABCG2.

The role of heart and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein factors in pregnancy.

Heart and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 1 (HAND1) and Heart and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 2 (HAND2), members of the Twist-family of basic Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH) proteins, act as critical transcription factors that play a key role in various developmental processes, including placental development and fetal growth during pregnancy. This review aims to explore the current understanding of HAND1 and HAND2 in pregnant maintenance and their potential implications for maternal and fetal health. We will summarize the mechanisms of action of HAND1 and HAND2 in pregnancy, their expression regulation and association with pregnancy complications such as preterm birth and preeclampsia.

The impact of bilateral transient occlusion of uterine and utero-ovarian arteries on surgical blood loss during laparoscopic myomectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Background: The primary perioperative concern during laparoscopic myomectomy is the risk of significant intraoperative blood loss, which can lead to hypovolemia, necessitate blood transfusion, and result in postoperative anemia. To address this issue, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the impact of temporarily clamping the uterine and utero-ovarian arteries on operative blood loss during laparoscopic myomectomy.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search across various databases to identify eligible clinical trials from inception to May 2024, focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

One-Step Nucleic Acid Amplification Analysis of Sentinel Nodes in Endometrial Cancer Versus Ultrastaging: First Long-Term Follow-Up Data of Discordant Cases.

Aims: Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecological cancer worldwide and its incidence is rising. The cornerstone of its management is surgical treatment with nodal staging. A monocentric study investigating the potential of the molecular biology method of one-step nucleic acid amplification (OSNA) in sentinel lymph node (SLN) analysis was conducted at our institution between April 2016 and January 2018.

Magnesium sulfate for fetal neuroprotection in preterm labor: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Objective: Antenatal magnesium sulfate has been reported to reduce the risk of neurological impairment in fetuses born to women at risk of preterm labor. However, the evidence to support its use is conflicting. We conducted this meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of magnesium sulfate in women at risk of preterm labor as new research is available from RCTs giving insights into MgSO4 treatment among differing gestational age groups.

Enhancing postpartum hemorrhage training by integrating case-problem based learning with simulation: a quasi experimental study.

Background: Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide, and effective training in PPH rescue techniques is crucial. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of combining case-based learning (CBL) and problem-based learning (PBL) with simulation teaching methods in improving midwifery trainees' technical proficiency in managing PPH.

Methods: This quasi-experimental study involved 76 trainees who received PPH training at Peking University Third Hospital from March to July 2023.

Background: Elevated maternal serum sFLT1 (soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1) has a key role in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. We sought to determine the relationship between the maternal and fetal genome and maternal levels of sFLT1 at 12, 20, 28, and 36 weeks of gestational age (wkGA).

Methods: We studied a prospective cohort of nulliparous women (3968 mother-child pairs).

Observed Effects on Very Early Pregnancy Linked to Ambient PM Exposure in China among Women Undergoing Fertilization-Embryo Transfer.

The adverse effect of ambient PM exposure on very early pregnancy (VEP) remains controversial among epidemiological studies but is supported by toxicological evidence. We adopted a multicenter retrospective cohort of 141,040 cycles to evaluate the effect of PM exposure on the VEP using the fertilization and embryo transfer platform and high-resolution PM data in China. We first investigated the association between PM exposure 1 week before and 1 week after the embryo transfer date and VEP.

Orchestrated desaturation reprogramming from stearoyl-CoA desaturase to fatty acid desaturase 2 in cancer epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis.

Background: Adaptative desaturation in fatty acid (FA) is an emerging hallmark of cancer metabolic plasticity. Desaturases such as stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) and fatty acid desaturase 2 (FADS2) have been implicated in multiple cancers, and their dominant and compensatory effects have recently been highlighted. However, how tumors initiate and sustain their self-sufficient FA desaturation to maintain phenotypic transition remains elusive.

Exploring the molecular mechanism of estrogen therapy effectiveness after TCRA in IUA patients at single-cell level.

Background: Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is a common cause of clinically refractory infertility, and there exists significant heterogeneity in the treatment outcomes among IUA patients with the similar severity after transcervical resection of adhesion(TCRA). The underlying mechanism of different treatment outcomes occur remains elusive, and the precise contribution of various cell subtypes in this process remains uncertain.
