Inhibition to glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) propagation is a critical challenge in clinical practice because binding of inhibitors of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) to caspase prevents cancer cells from death. In this study, folic acid (FA), lactoferrin (Lf) and rabies virus glycoprotein (RVG) were grafted on lipopolymers (LPs) composed of poly(ε-caprolactone) and Compritol 888 ATO to encapsulate AZD5582 (AZD), GDC0152 (GDC) and curcumin (CURC). The standard deviations of initial particle diameter and particle diameter after storage for 30 days were involved in LP composition optimization.

Globally, animal production has developed rapidly as a consequence of the ongoing population growth, to support food security. This has consequently led to an extensive use of antibiotics to promote growth and prevent diseases in animals. However, most antibiotics are not fully metabolized by these animals, leading to their excretion within urine and faeces, thus making these wastes a major reservoir of antibiotics residues, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) in the environment.

An acetylcholinesterase (AChE) binding-based biosensor was developed for the ultrasensitive detection of organophosphate (OP) pesticides. The biosensor integrates the technique based on fiber-optic particle plasmon resonance detection and a synthetic AChE binding peptide conjugated with gold nanoparticles on the optical fiber surface via an AChE competitive binding assay. The OP pesticides present in the solution hinder the binding of AChE to the peptide on the biosensor by competing for the binding sites present in AChE.

Group IV alloys of GeSn have been extensively investigated as a competing material alternative in shortwave-to-mid-infrared photodetectors (PDs). The relatively large defect densities present in GeSn alloys are the major challenge in developing practical devices, owing to the low-temperature growth and lattice mismatch with Si or Ge substrates. In this paper, we comprehensively analyze the impact of defects on the performance of GeSn homojunction PDs.

Group-IV GeSn photodetectors (PDs) compatible with standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) processing have emerged as a new and non-toxic infrared detection technology to enable a wide range of infrared applications. The performance of GeSn PDs is highly dependent on the Sn composition and operation temperature. Here, we develop theoretical models to establish a simple rule of thumb, namely "GeSn-rule 23", to describe GeSn PDs' dark current density in terms of operation temperature, cutoff wavelength, and Sn composition.

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that causes brain cell death and is the leading cause of dementia. Most patients with Alzheimer's disease are diagnosed with late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD), with apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotypes being highly associated with the frequency of LOAD risk. A fluorescence detection system coupled with oligonucleotide ligation and magnetic separation was developed to identify two single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for the APOE gene and recognize APOE alleles for LOAD.

Hypoxic microenvironment and limited penetration of photosensitizers within solid tumors are two crucial factors that restrict photodynamic therapy (PDT) efficacy. Herein, a new fluorinated mixed micelle (M60@PFC-Ce6) is developed as a tumor-penetrating and oxygen-enriching nanoplatform, which consists of chlorin e6 (Ce6) and perfluorocarbons (PFCs) co-loaded into fluorinated micelles to relieve hypoxia conditions as well as folate as targeting ligand that facilitates the selective biodistribution within tumor solids. The incorporation of fluorinated copolymers into mixed micelles exhibits not only a great increase in the oxygen-loading capacity, but also improves the stability of liquid PFCs emulsion within micelles without leakage.

Conventional exfoliation exploits the anisotropy in bonding or compositional character to delaminate 2D materials with large lateral size and atomic thickness. This approach, however, limits the choice to layered host crystals with a specific composition. Here, we demonstrate the exfoliation of a crystal along planes of ordered vacancies as a novel route toward previously unattainable 2D crystal structures.
