Most abscopal effects are reported as sporadic and unpredictable events following radiotherapy at symptomatic sites. Herein, we report a case in which a planned abscopal effect was induced following deliberate radiotherapy and concurrent systemic immunotherapy. A 53-year-old man with a combined positive score ≥10 developed extensive metastatic bladder cancer after progressing on conventional chemotherapy.

A visible light photocatalytic cascade reaction was developed, involving sequential self-[2+2] photodimerization of benzoylacetones, De Mayo reaction, acetalization, and alkoxylation, yielding tetrahydrofurans with high stereoselectivity, three stereogenic centers, and two quaternary carbons, under mild conditions with a cycloaddition-rearrangement strategy. Given the significance of photoreaction and rearrangement in organic chemistry, this method provides a valuable approach for the synthesis of tetrahydrofurans.

Homeobox A5 () has been identified as a tumor suppressor gene in breast cancers, but its role in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has not been confirmed. The Illumina GoldenGate Assay for methylation identified that DNA methylation patterns differ between tumorous and normal tissues in the oral cavity and that is one of the genes that are hypermethylated in oral tumor tissues. The present study obtained more‑complete information on the methylation status of by using the Illumina Infinium MethylationEPIC BeadChip and bisulfite sequencing assays.

Introduction: The early detection of esophageal cancer is crucial to enhancing patient survival rates, and endoscopy remains the gold standard for identifying esophageal neoplasms. Despite this fact, accurately diagnosing superficial esophageal neoplasms poses a challenge, even for seasoned endoscopists. Recent advancements in computer-aided diagnostic systems, empowered by artificial intelligence (AI), have shown promising results in elevating the diagnostic precision for early-stage esophageal cancer.

This paper presents a hardware implementation of a one-dimensional convolutional neural network using depthwise separable convolution (DSC) on the VC707 FPGA development board. The design processes the one-dimensional rolling bearing current signal dataset provided by Paderborn University (PU), employing minimal preprocessing to maximize the comprehensiveness of feature extraction. To address the high parameter demands commonly associated with convolutional neural networks (CNNs), the model incorporates DSC, significantly reducing computational complexity and parameter load.

This study proposed a microfluidic chip for the detection and quantification of NSE proteins, aimed at developing a rapid point-of-care testing system for early lung cancer diagnosis. The proposed chip structure integrated an electrochemical biosensor within a straight PDMS microchannel, enabling a significant reduction in sample volume. Additionally, a method was developed to deposit silver and silver chloride layers onto the reference electrode.

Background: The aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) is commonly used for screening primary aldosteronism (PA) in patients with difficult-to-control hypertension. Various thresholds have been proposed for the confirmatory tests, leading to inconsistency in the results.
Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate the performance of ARR screening in hypertensive patients.

Most current databases for bodily emotion expression are created in Western countries, resulting in culturally skewed representations. To address the obvious risk this bias poses to academic comprehension, we attempted to expand the current repertoire of human bodily emotions by recruiting Asian professional performers to wear whole-body suits with 57 retroreflective markers attached to major joints and body segments, and express seven basic emotions with whole-body movements in a motion-capture lab. For each emotion, actors performed three self-created scenarios that covered a broad range of real-life events to elicit the target emotion within 2-5 seconds.

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have become the rising stars in the field of nanotechnology and made a revolution in exploiting the profundity of genomics due to their distinguished properties such as stability, ease in preparation and conjugation, biocompatibility, and unique optical properties. These characteristics have greatly expanded their applications such as sensitive and selective quantitation of nucleic acids and as effective carriers for specifically delivering various important molecules/biomolecules to various targets, which are the cornerstone in treating genetic disorders. This review comprehensively discusses the most recent progress in utilization of AuNPs in quantitation and delivery of nucleic acids.

Background: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) with sacroiliac joint (SIJ) involvement is a prevalent issue in health care. Surgical intervention, employing an endoscopic technique with a navigation system, targets and ablates nociceptive nerve fibers associated with SIJ pain, although the clinical effect of omitting rhizotomy of the lateral sacral branch of S3 remains uncertain.
Objectives: This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of 2 full-endoscopic rhizotomy and ablation (FERA) techniques for SIJ pain and to determine the effect of omitting rhizotomy of the lateral sacral branch of S3 on patient outcomes.

The most commonly occurring cancer in the world is breast cancer with more than 500,000 cases across the world. The detection mechanism for breast cancer is endoscopist-dependent and necessitates a skilled pathologist. However, in recent years many computer-aided diagnoses (CADs) have been used to diagnose and classify breast cancer using traditional RGB images that analyze the images only in three-color channels.

Despite the generally good prognosis of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), impairments in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) remain a major concern in these patients. This study examined the patterns and predictors of change in mental and physical HRQoL in DTC survivors following radiotherapy ablation. Two hundred patients with DTC who received radiotherapy ablation in southern Taiwan between 2015 and 2018 were interviewed using the Taiwan version of the 36-item Short-form Health Survey (SF-36), the Taiwanese Depression Questionnaire (TDQ), and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HAM-A) at baseline and after 24 and 48 weeks of treatment.

Biological sequences do not come at random. Instead, they appear with particular frequencies that reflect properties of the associated system or phenomenon. Knowing how biological sequences are distributed in sequence space is thus a natural first step toward understanding the underlying mechanisms.

Aims: The standard Parkinson's disease (PD) treatment is L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA); however, its long-term use may cause L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID). Aberrant activation of medium spiny neurons (MSNs) contributes to LID, and MSN excitability is regulated by dopamine D3 receptor (D3R) and ATP-sensitive potassium (K) channel activity. Nevertheless, it remains unclear if D3R and K channels may be linked in the context of LID.
