Pertussis is an important public health and clinical issue in China currently. Macrolide resistance in is a serious challenge to prevent and manage pertussis in China. Early, timely and effective antimicrobial therapy plays an important role in alleviating disease, reducing complications and severe diseases, eliminating carriers and reducing secondary transmission, and implementing post-exposure chemoprophylaxis in special scenarios is also necessary to protect individuals at high risk of severe diseases.

(MP) is a common cause of community-acquired pneumonia in children in China, and it is often prevalent in the autumn and winter seasons. In the autumn and winter of 2023, a large-scale epidemic outbreak of MP pneumonia occurred nationwide in the pediatric population, which brought harm to child health, caused a heavy disease burden, imposed a challenge to the pediatric medical service system, and aroused great attention from medical administration and public health fields. The widespread prevalence of macrolide-resistant MP (MRMP) in China has become a prominent problem in pediatric clinical practice.

Background: Survivors of childhood cancer (CCS) and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients are at increased risk of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated malignancies. Although HPV vaccination is recommended for these groups, parental acceptance remains uncertain.
Procedure: We recruited caregivers of female CCS/HSCT aged ≥9 years from the Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC) vaccination clinic.

Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) II is a cortical malformation characterized by cortical architectural abnormalities, dysmorphic neurons, with or without balloon cells. Here, we systematically explored the pathophysiological role of the GATOR1 subunit NPRL3 variants including a novel mutation from iPSCs derived from one FCD II patient. Three FCD II children aged 0.

Heavy metals, such as Lead (Pb), are ubiquitous environmental pollutants that is a considerable problem worldwide. Increasing evidences suggest that Pb exposure negatively impact central nervous system. However, the exact toxic mechanism of Pb on early human brain development remain unclear due to the limitations of animal models and 2D cell models.

Objective: To examine the association of overweight/obesity and serum vitamin C (serum VC) with serum uric acid (SUA) and to assess causality using Mendelian randomization (MR).
Methods: 4,772 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2017-2018 were included in this study. Multivariate linear regression, variance inflation factor and quantile regression were used to analyze the relationships between overweight/obesity and serum VC and SUA levels.

Most available data evaluating childhood cancer survivorship care focus on the experiences of high-income Western countries, whereas data from Asian countries are limited. To address this knowledge deficit, we aimed to characterize survivorship care models and barriers to participation in long-term follow-up (LTFU) care among childhood cancer survivors (CCSs) and health care providers in Asian countries. Twenty-four studies were identified.

Background: Few studies have assessed air pollution exposure association with birthweight during both preconception and gestational periods.
Methods: Leveraging a preconception cohort consisting of 14220 pregnant women and newborn children in Shanghai, China during 2016-2018, we aim to assess associations of NO and PM exposure, derived from high-resolution spatial-temporal models, during preconception and gestational periods with outcomes including term birthweight, birthweight Z-score, small-for-gestational age (SGA) and large-for-gestational age (LGA). Linear and logistic regressions were used to estimate 3-month preconception and trimester-averaged air pollution exposure associations; and distributed lag models (DLM) were used to identify critical exposure windows at the weekly resolution from preconception to delivery.

The objective of the study was to explore the impact of paternal age on the risk of congenital anomalies and birth outcomes in infants born in the USA between 2016 and 2021. This retrospective cohort study used data from the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) database, a data set containing information on live birth in the USA between 2016 and 2021. Newborns were divided into four groups based on their paternal age (< 25, 25-34, 35-44, and > 44 years) and using the 25-34 age group as a reference.

Objective: To examine the pathogen diagnostic performance of targeted high-throughput next-gen sequencing (tNGS) in respiratory infectious diseases in preterm infants using dynamic follow-up.
Methods: Clinical samples of respiratory secretions were consecutively collected from 20 preterm infants weekly for 5 weeks, during which 10 developed bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Pathogen identification from these collected specimens was performed by both conventional cultivation and tNGS.

Background: Fontan operation is a palliative medical procedure performed on children with single-ventricle defects. As postoperative success of the procedure largely depends on the preload volume, it is necessary to maintain an appropriate pressure gradient between the systemic vein and the left atrium to ensure the effective volume of systemic circulation. However, there is a lack of effective indexes to evaluate fluid responsiveness in Fontan patients.

Introduction And Objectives: Infantile hepatic hemangioendothelioma (IHHE) is a benign liver tumor, associated with hypothyroidism and vascular malformations along the skin, brain, digestive tract and other organs. Here, we determined a single-center patient cohort by evaluating the effectiveness and safety of propranolol and sirolimus for the treatment of IHHE.
Patients And Methods: We performed a monocentric and observational study, based on clinical data obtained from 20 cases of IHHE treated with oral propranolol and sirolimus at the Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC), between December 2017 and April 2019.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the major cause of morbidity/mortality in infancy and childhood. Using a mouse model to uncover the mechanism of CHD is essential to understand its pathogenesis. However, conventional 2D phenotyping methods cannot comprehensively exhibit and accurately distinguish various 3D cardiac malformations for the complicated structure of heart cavity.

Background: It is still unknown whether newborn infant parasympathetic evaluation (NIPE), based on heart rate variability (HRV) as a reflection of parasympathetic nerve tone, can predict the hemodynamic response to a nociception stimulus in children less than 2 years old.
Methods: Fifty-five children undergoing elective surgery were analyzed in this prospective observational study. Noninvasive mean blood pressure (MBP), heart rate (HR) and NIPE values were recorded just before and 1 min after general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation as well as skin incision.

It remains to be discovered whether a formula predicting the subglottic transverse diameter measured by ultrasound (SGD) for the selection of an appropriate endotracheal tube (ETT) for children without congenital heart disease (CHD) is useful for children with CHD. A formula for predicting SGD was established after assessing 60 children ≤ 8 years without CHD and validated on 60 children with CHD. We selected the cuffed ETT size based on the SGD by ultrasound (SGD).
