High-energy metal deposition significantly impacts the performance and reliability of two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors and nanodevices. This study investigates the localized annealing effect in atomically thin InO induced during high-energy metal deposition. The localized heating effect alters the electronic performance of InO devices, especially in shorter channel devices, where heat dissipation is further constrained.

January 2025

Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering, Chung Cheng Institute of Technology, National Defense University, Taoyuan 335, Taiwan; System Engineering and Technology Program, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu 300, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Recently, advances in enhancing corrosion properties through various techniques, and the clinical application of biodegradable cardiovascular stents made from magnesium (Mg) alloys face challenges to corrosion resistance, blood compatibility, and biocompatibility. Drug-eluting stents (DES) offer a solution to enhance the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys while simultaneously reducing the occurrence of restenosis. In this study, WE43 Mg alloy was pretreated using electropolishing technology, and different polymers (PEG and PLLA) were used as drug-polymer coatings for the Mg alloy.

This Letter presents results of a search for the mixing of a sub-eV sterile neutrino with three active neutrinos based on the full data sample of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, collected during 3158 days of detector operation, which contains 5.55×10^{6} reactor ν[over ¯]_{e} candidates identified as inverse beta-decay interactions followed by neutron capture on gadolinium. The analysis benefits from a doubling of the statistics of our previous result and from improvements of several important systematic uncertainties.

Light-matter superposition states obtained via strong coupling play a decisive role in quantum information processing, but the deleterious effects of material dissipation and environment-induced decoherence inevitably destroy coherent light-matter polaritons over time. Here, we propose the use of coherent perfect absorption under near-field driving to prepare and protect the polaritonic states of a single quantum emitter interacting with a plasmonic nanocavity at room temperature. Our scheme of quantum nanoplasmonic coherent perfect absorption leverages an inherent frequency specificity to selectively initialize the coupled system in a chosen plasmon-emitter dressed state, while the coherent, unidirectional and non-perturbing near-field energy transfer from a proximal plasmonic waveguide can in principle render the dressed state robust against dynamic dissipation under ambient conditions.

Department of Biological Science and Technology, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan; Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan; Center for Intelligent Drug Systems and Smart Bio-devices, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan.

Objectives: The weekly rifapentine plus isoniazid for 3 months (3HP) improves completion rate of latent tuberculosis infection treatment, but flu-like symptoms are common. The novel 1HP regimen, involving daily rifapentine plus isoniazid for 28 days, has demonstrated low toxicity in HIV-infected populations. We aimed to investigate whether 1HP has a lower incidence rate of systemic drug reaction (SDR) compared with 3HP during treatment in non-HIV populations.

Purpose: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a leading cause of joint arthroplasty failure, potentially leading to critical complications like vertebral osteomyelitis (VO). The factors contributing to VO after PJI and the outcomes for these patients are not well understood. Our study aims to (1) identify risk factors for VO following PJI and (2) assess the clinical outcomes in these cases.

ACS Sens

September 2024

Department of Photonics, College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, 1001, Ta Hsueh Rd, Hsinchu 300, Taiwan.

Article Synopsis
  • This study presents an Au/SnO-based ultrasensitive hydrogen sulfide (HS) gas sensor that operates effectively at room temperature and low voltages, offering energy-saving benefits.
  • The sensor achieves a limit of detection of 2 parts per billion (ppb) and shows about a 270% response increase and 126 seconds recovery time when exposed to 500 ppb of HS gas, outperforming traditional SnO sensors.
  • The improved performance is attributed to the catalytic properties of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), which enhance oxygen adsorption and create more effective nanostructures for sensing, making this technology suitable for applications in environmental monitoring, food safety, and healthcare.

Improvement Performance of p-GaN Gate High-Electron-Mobility Transistors with GaN/AlN/AlGaN Barrier Structure.

Micromachines (Basel)

April 2024

Department of Photonics and Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering, College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu 30010, Taiwan.

This study demonstrates a particular composited barrier structure of high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) with an enhancement mode composed of p-GaN/GaN/AlN/AlGaN/GaN. The purpose of the composite barrier structure device is to increase the maximum drain current, reduce gate leakage, and achieve lower on-resistance (R) performance. A comparison was made between the conventional device without the composited barrier and the device with the composited barrier structure.

Theoretical investigation on action mechanism and mollifying efficacy of propellant stabilizers.

J Mol Model

April 2024

Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Chung Cheng Institute of Technology, National Defense University, Taiwan, Republic of China.

Context: This project performed quantum chemical computation, through kinetic and thermodynamic analyses to compare relative reactivity, reaction rate, and equilibrium composition from the possible pathways in connection with stabilizer-nitrodioxide reactions to determine the stability of the materials for practical application. Corresponding achievements have promoted the use of N-methyl-p-nitroaniline (MNA) and dinitrophenyl malonamide series (M3, M4, and M5) stabilizers as high priorities for selection.

Methods: The Gaussian 09 program (G09) (Frisch et al 2009) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations with the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) function were performed to obtain related geometric and thermodynamic energy data for the molecular systems in this study.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX)-mediated system is a cost-effective green nitrogen removal process. However, there are few examples of successful application of this advanced wastewater denitrification process in wastewater treatment plants, and the understanding of how to implement anaerobic ammonia oxidation process in full-scale is still limited. In this study, it was found that the abundance of anaerobic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AnAOB) in the two livestock wastewater plants named J1 and J2, respectively, showed diametrically opposed trends of waxing and waning with time.
