Fluoxetine (FXT) and alprazolam (APZ), widely used for mental disorders, have poorly studied adverse effects on mitochondrial function, including oxidative phosphorylation, electron transport, and membrane permeability. This study represents the first investigation using a chick embryo model (HH-stage 10, day 1.5) to analyze the teratogenic effects of FXT and APZ and explore the protective potential of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and L-carnitine (CNT).

New palladium(0) and palladium(ii) complexes with -heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands derived from nitron and its derivatives were synthesized. The structures of most of these complexes were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Among the new complexes, the palladium complex with a monodentate NHC ligand derived from nitron demonstrated the highest efficacy as a catalyst precursor in the Mizoroki-Heck coupling reaction of aryl chlorides with alkenes.

It has been shown that several ribonuclease (RNase) A superfamily proteins serve as ligands of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), representing a new concept for ligand/receptor interaction. Moreover, recent studies indicate high clinical values for this type of ligand/RTK interactions. However, there is no structural report for this new family of ligand/receptor.

Studies on the role of natural predatory instincts in captive-born mammalian myrmecophagy are rare. Consequently, researchers rely extensively on case reports to learn more about the contexts in which predatory behavior occurs among such animals. In this study, we recorded an uncommon case of a captive-born southern tamandua () that accidentally escaped from a zoo into a nonnative habitat in Asia.

To evaluate the potential anticancer effects of 1175 FDA-approved drugs, cell viability screening was performed using 25 human cancer cell lines covering 14 human cancer types. Here, we focus on the action of paroxetine, which demonstrated greater toxicity toward human gastric adenocarcinoma cell-line AGS cells compared with the other FDA-approved drugs, exhibiting an IC50 value lower than 10 μM. Evaluation of the underlying novel mechanisms revealed that paroxetine can enhance DNA damage in gastric cancer cells and involves downregulation of Rad51, HR23B and ERCC1 expression and function, as well as nucleotide shortage.

, a newly described horsehair worm that parasitizes the millipede, is one of the three described horsehair worm species in Taiwan. It is morphologically similar to Schmidt-Rhaesa, 2010 because of the progressively broadening distribution of bristles concentrated on the male tail lobes, but it is distinguishable from because of the stout bristles on the mid-body. In addition, a vertical white stripe on the anterior ventral side and areoles on the inside wall of the cloacal opening are rarely mentioned in other species.

A library of two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors with different band gaps offers the construction of van der Waals (vdWs) heterostructures with different band alignments, providing a new platform for developing high-performance optoelectronic devices. Here, we demonstrate all-2D optoelectronic devices based on type-II p-MoS/n-InSe vdWs heterojunctions operating at the near infrared (NIR) wavelength range. The p-n heterojunction diode exhibits a rectification ratio of ∼10 at = ±2 V and a turn-on voltage of ∼0.

The gender information in written Chinese third person pronouns is not symmetrically encoded: the character for "he" (, with semantic radical , meaning human) is used as a default referring to every individual, while the character for "she" (, with semantic radical , meaning woman) indicates females only. This critical feature could result in different patterns of processing of gender information in text, but this is an issue that has seldom been addressed in psycholinguistics. In Chinese, the written forms of the reflexive pronouns are composed of a pronoun plus the reflexive "/self" (/himself and /herself).

The reaction of the antiaromatic [28]trithiahexaphyrin (TTHP) with Cu(I) in DMF gives a novel fused-ring trithiahexaphyrin with the elimination of a chloride on a dichlorophenyl ring and bond formation to the outward oriented pyrrolic nitrogen to form a 5,5,6-tricyclic internal ring system. The NMR spectra, which display characteristics of an antiaromatic compound, agree with the proposed structure. Meanwhile, reactions of TTHP with amines in the presence of Cu(I) give amino-group-inserted hexaphyrins with the amino nitrogen joined to a beta-thiophenic carbon and the alpha-carbon of the alkylamine cyclized to the inward pyrrolic nitrogen to form a 5,7,5-tricyclic rings.
