Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) benefits patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) but can increase left ventricular afterload and exacerbate pulmonary edema. Adding a percutaneous left ventricular assist device (LVAD) to VA-ECMO can optimize the hemodynamics. Because managing VA-ECMO and LVAD simultaneously is complex and labor-intensive, we developed a closed-loop automated control system for VA-ECMO and LVAD.

The structural development of the heart depends heavily on mechanical forces, and rhythmic contractions generate essential physical stimuli during morphogenesis. Cardiac cells play a critical role in coordinating this process by sensing and responding to these mechanical forces. In vivo, cells experience rhythmic spatial and temporal variations in deformation-related stresses throughout heart development.

Bone morphogenetic protein 3b (BMP3b), also known as growth differentiation factor 10 (GDF10), is a non-osteogenic BMP highly expressed in the skeleton. Although in vitro studies have shown that BMP3b suppresses osteoblast differentiation, the physiological role of BMP3b in regulating bone mass in vivo remains unknown. Here, we show that BMP3b deletion in mice leads to a high bone mass phenotype via an unexpected novel mechanism involving de-repression of canonical BMP/Smad signaling.

Cells functioning at a specific zone by clustering according to gene expression are recognized as zonated cells. Here, we demonstrate anatomical and functional zones in the zebrafish heart. The cardiomyocytes (CMs) at the atrioventricular canal between the atrium and ventricle could be grouped into three zones according to the localization of signal-activated CMs: Wnt/β-catenin signal, Bmp signal, and Tbx2b zones.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterized by the severe obstruction of the small pulmonary arteries and concomitant high pulmonary arterial pressure, resulting in progressive right ventricular failure. Previously, we demonstrated that long-term interleukin (IL)-33 administration in mice induces severe occlusive medial hypertrophy of pulmonary arteries (PA) in the lungs, which is mediated by group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s). In response to IL-33, ILC2s accumulate around the blood vessels and produce IL-5, leading to perivascular eosinophil recruitment.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate a novel technique for cell tracking by visualising the activity of the human sodium/iodide symporter (hNIS) after transplantation of hNIS-expressing multilayered cell sheets in a rat model of chronic myocardial infarction.
Methods: Triple-layered cell sheets were generated from mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) derived from mice overexpressing hNIS (hNIS-Tg). Myocardial infarction was induced by permanent ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery in F344 athymic rats, and a triple-layered MEFs sheets were transplanted to the infarcted area two weeks after surgery.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH, previously termed non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)), is a major complication of obesity that promotes fatty liver disease. MASH is characterized by progressive tissue fibrosis and sterile liver inflammation that can lead to liver cirrhosis, cancer, and death. Objectives: This study aimed to understand the status quo of medical treatments of the primary disease and pregnancy outcomes in patients with Takayasu arteritis (TAK) and children's birth outcomes.
Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled patients with TAK who conceived after the disease onset and were managed at medical facilities participating in the Japan Research Committee of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare for Intractable Vasculitis.
Results: This study enrolled 51 cases and 68 pregnancies 2019-2021.

Background: The atherogenic characteristics of heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) increase the risk of premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease including not only coronary artery disease but ischemic stroke. Asymptomatic intracranial artery stenosis/occlusion (IASO) is a major cause of ischemic stroke, but it has not yet been fully characterized in patients with HeFH.
Methods And Results: This study analyzed 147 clinically diagnosed subjects with HeFH who underwent magnetic resonance imaging/magnetic resonance angiography imaging for evaluation of IASO (≥50% diameter stenosis).

Neuromedin U (NMU) activates two types of receptors (NMUR1 and NMUR2), and the former is mainly expressed in the peripheral tissues, including the intestinal tract and lung tissues.
