Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex metabolic syndrome characterized by insulin dysfunction and abnormalities in glucose and lipid metabolism. The gut microbiome has been recently identified as an important factor for development of T2D. In this study, a total of 102 subjects were recruited, and we have looked at the gut microbiota of prediabetics (PreDMs) ( = 17), newly diagnosed diabetics (NewDMs) ( = 11), and diabetics on antidiabetic treatment (KnownDMs) ( = 39) and compared them with healthy nondiabetics (ND) ( = 35).

Fluorine substitutions on the furanose ring of nucleosides are known to strongly influence the conformational properties of oligonucleotides. In order to assess the effect of fluorine on the conformation of 3'-deoxy-3'-fluoro-5-methyluridine (T), CHFNO, we studied its stereochemistry in the crystalline state using X-ray crystallography. The compound crystallizes in the chiral orthorhombic space group P222 and contains two symmetry-independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit.

Cyanobacterial strain ARC8 was isolated from seepage coming into the river Dračice, Františkov, Czech Republic, and was characterized using a polyphasic approach. Strain ARC8 showed a typical -like morphology and in-depth morphological characterization indicated that it is a member of the genus . Soil inhabiting true branching heterocytous cyanobacterium strain SNS 3 with T-type branching was collected from the campus of Banaras Hindu University, India and characterized using the polyphasic approach. Morphological observations showed the presence of akinetes (in chain), hormogonia and monocytes. Physiological characterization of strain SNS 3 showed high content of carotenoid in comparison to chlorophyll a content along with also exhibiting a higher C/N ratio in the nitrogen deficient BG110 medium.

A novel Anoxic-Aerobic Process (AnAP) that eliminated the anaerobic process was optimized and operated for the simultaneous remediation of phosphate, nitrate, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) from industrial effluents. Two sequential batch reactors (SBR) with AnAP were established for the treatment of effluent from two industries; phosphate fertilizer (AnASBR_PPL) and dairy industry (AnASBR_DW). The adaptability of the bacterial consortium in the SBRs, dominated by denitrifying phosphate accumulating organisms (DNPAOs), facilitates the stable performance of AnAP for simultaneous nutrient and COD removal.

The complement system is one of the first barriers and consists of well-balanced cascades of reactions which generates anaphylatoxins such as C5a and C3a. Background: Generation of red blood cells (RBCs) from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in vitro takes about 21 days, making it unaffordable for clinical applications. Acceleration of the in vitro erythropoiesis process by using small molecules could eventually make the large-scale production of these cells commercially viable. Present work aims to utilize systems biology and molecular modelling approach to understand the inhibition kinetics of Leishmania major GLO I and identifying potential hit followed by their validation through in vitro and animal studies. Simulation of GLO I inhibition has shown to affect reaction fluxes of almost all reactions in the model that led to increased production of various AGEs and free radicals. Further, in vitro testing of C1 and C2, selected through molecular modelling revealed remarkable morphological alterations like size reduction, membrane blebbing and loss in motility of the parasite, however, only C1 showed better antileishmanial activity.
