The burgeoning field of nanomedicine is exploring quantum dots for cancer theranostics. In recent years, chemically engineered copper sulfide (CuS) quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as a multifunctional platform for fluorescence-based sensors with prominent applications in imaging and chemodynamic therapy of tumor cells. The present study demonstrates the sustainable synthesis of nitrogen-embedded copper sulfide (N@CuS) quantum dots for the first time and unveils their potential application in in vitro and in vivo breast cancer management.

Although an established model organism, remains comparatively inaccessible to high throughput screens, and alternative bioinformatic approaches still rely on unconnected datasets and outdated algorithms. Here, we report a new approach to consolidating RNA-seq and microarray data based on a systematic exploration of parameters and computational controls, enabling us to infer functional gene associations from their co-expression patterns. To illustrate the power of this approach, we took advantage of new data regarding a previously studied pathway, the biogenesis of a secretory organelle called the mucocyst.

The genus , known for its melanized, yeast-like appearance, includes a diverse group of fungi with significant implications across various fields. An isolate representing a novel species was identified within this genus from a ginger tuber from India, based on morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic analysis. Phylogenetic analysis of the D1/D2 domain of the 26S LSU rRNA gene, SSU rRNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region confirmed this strain as a new species.

CD40-CD40-ligand (CD40L) interaction plays crucial immunoregulatory roles, as CD40 signals through different signaling intermediates to convert the messages from CD40L to effector functions. Being a TNFα receptor family member, CD40 binds TNFα receptor-associated factors, assembles signalosome complexes and decrypts the messages from CD40L through different signaling modules to result in residue-specific effector functions. The evidence for such a residue-specific message encryption first came from the CD40L mutations resulting in X-linked hyper-IgM syndrome, as the extent of effects varied with the residue mutated.

Despite the significant interest in designing artificial ion channels, there is limited availability of channel-forming molecules to tackle complex issues, especially in biological systems. Moreover, a major challenge is the scarcity of chloride transporters that can selectively induce toxicity in cancer cells while minimizing harm to normal healthy cells. This work reports a series of 2-hydroxyphenyl benzamide-based small molecules 1 a-1 c, which self-assemble to form barrel rosette-type artificial ion channels that adequately transport chloride ions across membranes.

Aging is characterized by a decline in various biological functions that is associated with changes in gene expression programs. Recent transcriptome-wide integrative studies in diverse organisms and tissues have revealed a gradual uncoupling between RNA and protein levels with aging, which highlights the importance of post-transcriptional regulatory processes. Here, we provide an overview of multi-omics analyses that show the progressive uncorrelation of transcriptomes and proteomes during the course of healthy aging.

In ciliates, membrane cisternae called alveoli interpose between the plasma membrane and the cytoplasm, posing a barrier to endocytic and exocytic membrane trafficking. One exception to this barrier is plasma membrane invaginations called parasomal sacs, which are adjacent to ciliary basal bodies. The present paper deals with the investigation into the cGAS-STING pathway, focusing on the signaling of interferons through mathematical modeling and identifying a significant positive feedback loop regulated by STING for activation of type 1 interferons (IFN-1). Cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) is responsible for detecting cytosolic DNA and initiating the STING (stimulator of interferon genes) pathway, which in turn causes the synthesis of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons. In addition to being crucial for pathogen identification, this route interacts with autophagy, a cellular mechanism that is necessary for immunological homeostasis and pathogen removal.
