The Impact of LRRK2 G2019S on Parkinson's Disease: Clinical Phenotype and Treatment in Tunisian Patients.

Objective: LRRK2-G2019S is the most frequent mutation in North African Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Data on its impact on disease progression and treatment response remain elusive. Therefore, we investigated the clinical features, treatments, and complications of PD in Tunisian patients according to their LRRK2-G2019S profile.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular diseases. The relationship between cancer development and statins intake is controversial, and there are no clear studies in Lebanon and the Middle East concerning this topic.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death globally, followed by cancer. Angiotensin II contributes greatly to CVD pathogenesis, and Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) constitute a mainstay in hypertension and CVD management. However, the relationship between ARBs and cancer initiation is controversial, with no clear data in Lebanon.

Statin Associated Muscular Adverse Effects.

Background: Statins are widely used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia and in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. However, they may induce muscular adverse effects that range from asymptomatic elevation of creatine kinase to life threatening rhabdomyolysis.

Objective: The aim of the study was to describe epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with muscular adverse effects.

Pantoprazole-induced Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: A Case-report.

Introduction: Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor mainly used to treat conditions causing excess stomach acid. Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a rare bullous disease. The main etiologic factors are drugs, especially antibiotics, anticonvulsants, oxicam and allopurinol.

Effects of biologic and target synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs on sarcopenia in spondyloarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sarcopenia is a syndrome defined by generalized and progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function. Besides affecting elderly population, it is actually common among inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRD) patients. We performed a systematic literature review with a meta-analysis to investigate the influence of biologic and target synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs/tsDMARDs) on sarcopenia in IRD.

Skin Tests for the Exploration of Hypersensitivity Reactions Associated with Iodinated Contrast Media.

Background: Iodinated contrast media (ICM) are responsible for multiple side effects, especially hypersensitivity reactions. These reactions can either be authentic allergies or non-allergic hypersensitivity reactions. Skin tests (prick and intradermal tests) are simple to perform and can be of great help, especially if the ICM needs to be re-used.

DRESS Syndrome Associated with Liposomal Amphotericin-B in a Kidney Transplant Patient: A Case Report.

Introduction: Liposomal amphotericin B is a widely used broad-spectrum antifungal drug. It was developed to reduce nephrotoxicity and maximize the therapeutic utility of amphotericin B in the treatment of invasive fungal infections. Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a severe drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome commonly associated with aromatic antiepileptic drugs.

Bullous fixed drug eruption: A potential diagnostic pitfall: a study of 18 cases.

Background: Bullous fixed drug eruption (BFDE) is a rare and particular adverse drug reaction characterized by localized or generalized blisters and erosions, which can be confused with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, major erythema multiforme and autoimmune bullous dermatosis.

Objective: The aim of our study was to assess the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic features and outcome of BFDE.

Methods: A retrospective and descriptive study collecting all observations of BFDE was conducted in the dermatology department of Habib Thameur Hospital in Tunisia, over an 18-year period (2000-2017).

Bullous Fixed Drug Eruption Caused by Doxycycline.

A 50-year-old woman presented to our dermatology clinic with pruritic lesions on her hands that had appeared 24 hours earlier. The clinical manifestations had started 24 hours after taking 100 mg of doxycycline for acute bronchitis. She had no history of allergic disease or allergic reactions to drugs.
