Waste polyethylene (WPE) and virgin polyethylene (VPE) (50:50) thermoplastic have been melt-mixed with biochar (BC) made from orange peels at ratios of 5, 10, and 15(Phr) to evaluate how the filler content affected the mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical conductivity, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). γ-rays was applied to the prepared specimens to assess how radiation affected the created biocomposites. From the obtained results, the combination of BC with γ-rays, at doses of up to 100 kGy, with thermoplastic resulted in an enhanced mechanical property, particularly for composites containing 15 Phr of BC added because of its unique structure and excellent dispersion.

Purpose: A phase II/III trial is a type of phase III trial that has embedded in it an intermediate phase II go/no-go decision as to whether to continue the accrual to the phase III sample size. We examine the design characteristics and experience of a well-defined set of National Cancer Institute phase II/III trials, with special emphasis on designed accrual suspensions while awaiting the data to become mature enough for the phase II analysis. Elastomer cure shrinkage during composite fabrication often induces wrinkling in conductive networks, significantly affecting the performance of flexible strain sensors, yet the specific roles of such wrinkles are not fully understood. Herein, a highly sensitive polydimethylsiloxane-filled graphene woven fabric (PDMS-f-GWF) strain sensor by optimizing the PDMS cure shrinkage through careful adjustment of the base-to-curing-agent ratio is developed. This sensor achieves a gauge factor of ∼700 at 25% strain, which is over 6 times higher than sensors using commercially formulated PDMS.

Diatomic catalysts (DACs) present unique opportunities for harnessing ensemble effects between adjacent metal atoms, thus, expanding the properties of single-atom catalysts (SACs). However, the precise preparation and characterization of this type of catalyst remains challenging. Following a precursor-preselected strategy, here, we report the synthesis of a carbon nitride-supported Pd-DAC, which achieves an excellent yield of 92% for photocatalytic water-donating transfer hydrogenation of 4-vinylphenol to 4-ethylphenol, far exceeding that of other metal species, including Pd single atoms (47%) and nanoparticles (1%).
