Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by intestinal mucosal damage that exacerbates inflammation and promotes disease recurrence. Although hydrogel-based therapies have shown potential for mucosal repair, challenges remain due to inadequate targeting and low hydrogel density, leading to ongoing infiltration of harmful substances and delayed mucosal healing. In this study, an inflammation-targeting-triggered healing hydrogel (ITTH hydrogel) is developed, composed of polyvinyl alcohol-alginate microgels (PALMs) and a cyclodextrin polymer crosslinker (CPC).

Background: Chronic hand eczema (CHE) is a common skin disease with different subtypes, but knowledge of the molecular patterns associated with each subtype is limited.
Objective: To characterize the CHE transcriptome across subtypes.
Methods: Using RNA-sequencing, we studied the transcriptome of 220 full-thickness skin biopsies collected from palms, dorsa, and arms from 96 patients with CHE and/or atopic dermatitis (AD) and 32 healthy controls.

This study aimed to predict the toughness of date palm fruit (Barhi, Saqie, and Khodry varieties) at different ripening stages (Khalal, Rutab, and Tamar) using Hertz Theory by evaluating the physical and mechanical characteristics of the fruits. Physical measurements revealed that high moisture content in the Khalal stage led to larger dimensions and mass across all varieties, with Barhi dates showing a moisture content of 63.31%, which decreased to 32.

The emergence of new technologies focusing on "computer vision" has contributed significantly to the assessment of fruit quality. In this study, an innovative approach based on image analysis was used to assess the external quality of fresh and frozen 'Mejhoul' and 'Boufeggous' date palm cultivars stored for 6 months at -10 °C and -18 °C. Their quality was evaluated, in a non-destructive manner, based on texture features extracted from images acquired using a digital camera and flatbed scanner.

Reducing the time before the flowering stage in coconut ( L.) trees greatly influences yield, yet the mechanisms driving the switch from vegetative to reproductive growth are not well understood, especially the role of phosphorus in this transition. In this study, dwarf coconut plants of the same cultivation age were selected and categorized into the vegetative phase (VP) or the reproductive phase (RP).

Objective: Being married may protect late-life cognition. Less is known about living arrangement among unmarried adults and mechanisms such as brain health (BH) and cognitive reserve (CR) across race and ethnicity or sex/gender. The current study examines (1) associations between marital status, BH, and CR among diverse older adults and (2) whether one's living arrangement is linked to BH and CR among unmarried adults.

Nipah virus spillovers via consumption of date palm sap in Bangladesh vary substantially between years and have been associated with lower winter temperatures and precipitation. However, the mechanisms driving the interannual variation and the influence of weather remain unexplained. Here we investigated the hypothesis that weather patterns change human sap consumption and explain interannual variation in observed spillovers.

The physical appearance of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) fruit (dates) is important for its market value. Many date-producing countries experience significant financial losses due to the poor appearance of the fruit, skin separation or puffiness being a major reason. Previous research showed evidence linking the skin separation phenotype to environmental conditions.

Purpose: This study evaluated the effectiveness of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) treatments using multiple pharmaceutical agents that could simultaneously preserve or enhance fertility capability.
Materials And Methods: This was a single-center-based, randomized controlled study, whereas the final analysis evaluated a total 350 CP/CPPS patients (age range, 28-40 years) and 50 patients were randomly allocated to each therapeutic group, with a 1:1 ratio. The therapeutic groups consist of tadalafil (group 1, 5 mg daily), L-carnitine (group 2, 2 g daily), extract (group 3, 320 mg daily), group 4 (tadalafil+L-carnitine), group 5 (tadalafil+), group 6 (L-carnitine+), and group 7 (tadalafil+L-carnitine+).

West Nile virus (WNV) is a neurovirulent arbovirus whose epidemic capacity is enhanced by the wide occurrence of competent vectors and susceptible avian amplifying hosts. In this study, we investigated the antiviral potential of Euterpe oleracea Mart. fruit extract (EoFE) in WNV infection of monkey kidney (Vero) cell cultures.

Proper organ functioning relies on adequate blood circulation; thus, monitoring blood flow is crucial for early disease diagnosis. Laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) is a noninvasive technique that is widely used for measuring superficial blood flow. In this study, we developed a portable LSCI system using an 805-nm near-infrared laser and a monochrome CMOS camera with a 10 × macro zoom lens.

Background: Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) is an oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD) that commonly occurs in the South Asian population as there is high usage of areca nut. There has been extensive research on the pathogenesis and treatment of this condition. It is well-established in the scientific literature that mast cells (MC) have a definitive role in several inflammatory disorders.

This study focuses on the extraction of bioactive compounds from date seeds using five polyol-based deep eutectic solvents (P-DESs) in combination with hybrid green extraction techniques, specifically microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), homogenization-assisted extraction (HAE), and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). The optimization of these extraction techniques was achieved using P-DESs showing the highest efficiency for extracting date seed bioactive compounds using response surface methodology (RSM) and central composite design (CCD) approach. The optimized conditions from three green techniques were further applied in the form of hybrid green extraction techniques, involving six binary and three ternary methods, to assess the percentage increase in the extraction efficiency of date seed bioactive polyphenolics.

Increasing desertification constitutes a global environmental problem, mainly driven by climate change and inappropriate land-use that limits agriculture, forestry and human colonization. The selection of suitable plant species to mitigate desertification is particularly challenging, as it usually requires simultaneous counteraction against a whole set of unfavourable environmental conditions, including heat, drought, high tropospheric ozone and salinity. It therefore seems useful to identify the survival strategies of plants native in desert environments.

The coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB, ) is a palm tree pest capable of rapidly expanding its population in new territories. Previous studies identified a digestive symbiosis between CRB and its gut microbes. However, no research compared the genetic variation of CRBs with their hindgut microbiota on a global scale.

Betel quid (BQ) use disorder (BUD) is prevalent in many Asian countries, impacting approximately 600 million people. We conducted a randomized clinical trial to analyze the impact of MAOA genetic variations on the severity of BQ craving. This was measured using criteria and the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale modified for betel quid use (Y-BOCS-BQ).

Background: Betel quid and its major ingredient, areca nut, are recognized by IARC as major risk factors in oral cancer development. Areca nut extract (ANE) exposure has been linked to OPMD progression and malignant transformation to OSCC. However, the detailed mechanism through which ANE acts on other cell types in the oral microenvironment to promote oral carcinogenesis remains elusive.
