Introduction: The role of afatinib in the first-line treatment of EGFR-mutant advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients has been proven through clinical trials and real-world studies. However, additional data on the effectiveness of afatinib in patients with brain metastases are lacking.
Methods: EGFR-mutant NSCLC patients with brain metastases were retrospectively reviewed across nine cancer centers in Vietnam from April 1, 2018 to June 1, 2022.

We report a case of IgG4-related dacryoadenitis and sialadenitis (Mikulicz's disease) with acquired hemophilia A (AHA) in a pediatric patient. An 11-year-old female presented with intermittent swelling of the bilateral upper eyelids and neck areas. Clinical examination revealed bilateral swollen upper eyelids with palpable mass lesions in the lacrimal fossa.

Introduction: Identifying predictors of pathological complete response (pCR) and long-term outcomes after neoadjuvant treatment for breast cancer is needed to individualize treatment and patient monitoring. This study aimed to investigate clinicopathological factors affecting pCR and long-term outcomes in stage III breast cancer patients receiving a dose-dense neoadjuvant regimen.
Methods: This is a retrospective study including patients with stage III breast cancer who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy consisting of doxorubicin 60 mg/m² plus cyclophosphamide 600 mg/m², followed by paclitaxel 175 mg/m² every two weeks at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital and Hanoi Oncology Hospital between January 2015 and December 2022.

Purpose: Stronger Together is a peer mentoring model that seeks to address the severe lack of mental health and psychosocial support for patients with cancer in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This article presents the results of the Stronger Together pilot study among patients with breast and gynecologic cancer in Viet Nam (VN).
Methods: Eligible participants comprised women age 25 years or older with a diagnosis of breast or gynecologic cancers and receiving treatment at four participating hospitals.

Objective: Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is an endocrine tumor with low incidence and one of the most aggressive human malignancies. The median survival is only 3-10 months, and the optimal therapeutic approach as well as prognostic factors have not been established. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term survival and good prognostic factors of patients with ATC.

Background: Afatinib, a second-generation epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) tyrosine kinase, has proven effective for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR mutations through randomized controlled trials and real-world studies. Elderly patients exhibit unique characteristics in terms of physical condition and comorbidities, leading to differences in clinical practice for selecting the initial dosage and making dose adjustments compared to younger patients. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and adverse effects of first-line Afatinib treatment in elderly patients with NSCLC harboring EGFR mutations in Vietnam in a real-world context.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by radical cystectomy is the standard treatment for cisplatin-eligible patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Adding perioperative immunotherapy may improve outcomes.
Methods: In this phase 3, open-label, randomized trial, we assigned, in a 1:1 ratio, cisplatin-eligible patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer to receive neoadjuvant durvalumab plus gemcitabine-cisplatin every 3 weeks for four cycles, followed by radical cystectomy and adjuvant durvalumab every 4 weeks for eight cycles (durvalumab group), or to receive neoadjuvant gemcitabine-cisplatin followed by radical cystectomy alone (comparison group).

In forensics, one-third of sudden deaths remain unexplained after a forensic autopsy. A majority of these sudden unexplained deaths (SUDs) are considered to be caused by inherited cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we investigated 40 young SUD cases (<40 years), with non-diagnostic structural cardiac abnormalities, using Targeted NGS (next-generation sequencing) for 167 genes previously associated with inherited cardiomyopathies and channelopathies.

Background: Adjuvant therapy with durvalumab, with or without tremelimumab, may have efficacy in patients with limited-stage small-cell lung cancer who do not have disease progression after standard concurrent platinum-based chemoradiotherapy.
Methods: In a phase 3, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, we assigned patients to receive durvalumab at a dose of 1500 mg, durvalumab (1500 mg) plus tremelimumab at a dose of 75 mg (four doses only), or placebo every 4 weeks for up to 24 months. Randomization was stratified according to disease stage (I or II vs.

The emergence of multicancer early detection (MCED) tests holds promise for improving early cancer detection and public health outcomes. However, positive MCED test results require confirmation through recommended cancer diagnostic imaging modalities. To address these challenges, we have developed a consultation and work-up protocol for definitive diagnostic results post MCED testing, named SPOT-MAS.

Background: Percutaneous rhizotomy is a group of techniques used to treat trigeminal neuralgia. Radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RF) and Chemical Rhizotomy (CR) using glycerol are among the most frequently used methods. We have recently refined Ethanol Rhizotomy (ER) under Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) guidance.

Background: The standard treatment for de novo metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) involves androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) combined with next-generation hormonal agents and/or docetaxel. While the standard dose (STD) of abiraterone is 1,000 mg administered while fasting, recent evidence suggests that a low dose (LOW) of 250 mg taken with a low-fat meal may achieve comparable pharmacokinetic outcomes.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the failure-free survival (FFS) and safety of LOW and STD in de novo high-risk mHSPC patients.

Case Presentation: A 60-year-old male was diagnosed with muscle-invasive bladder cancer and underwent total cystectomy and ileal conduit diversion.
Background: The standard treatment for localized osteosarcoma is neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. Our aim was to report the rate of histopathological response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy for the treatment of extremity osteosarcoma in Vietnam.
Methods: We performed a retrospective study of stage II conventional osteosarcoma patients under 40 years-old who received MAP regimen as neoadjuvant chemotherapy at the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital between June 2019 and June 2022.

Introduction: Primary leiomyosarcoma (LMS) of the colon is a rare neoplasm and constitutes less than 0.1% of all colon malignancies. These tumors are more aggressive and have poorer prognoses than other gastrointestinal tumors, including gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) or adenocarcinomas.

Body weight, body mass index (BMI), Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 (NRS2002), and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) are among vital nutrition status indices employed during cancer treatment. These have also been associated with levels of blood chemistry panels (BCPs), which are touted as significant indicators of disease prognosis. However, it remains unclear which nutrition status index better predicts future trends in specific BCPs.

We present a case of a 66-year-old female with a huge mass on the left breast which was successfully removed by surgical resection. The pathological diagnosis was infiltrating lobular carcinoma with pure rhabdoid features and the malignant transformation of a benign phyllodes tumor.
