Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the gp105 region of the HIV-2 envelope gene from isolates in Western India, highlighting its significance due to the ongoing concern of HIV-2, alongside HIV-1.
  • Phylogenetic analysis of 18 HIV-2 sequences showed a 10.9% genetic divergence, indicating they are closely related to both each other and to known African and European HIV-2 group A sequences.
  • The findings suggest a strong presence of HIV-2 group A in Western India, particularly with high homology to West African strains, and indicate that there is no evidence of HIV-2 recombination in the region.
