Background: The purpose of this study was to analysis the nostril symmetry and nasal stability following secondary rhinoplasty performed with either nasal septal cartilage implantation (G1) or simple alar cartilage suspension and internal fixation (G2) in patients with unilateral secondary cleft nasal deformity.
Methods: Nostril and alar symmetry were analyzed retrospectively in 13 consecutive patients in G1 and 17 in G2. Assessment of three indexes was first performed using photogrammetric measurements of photographs at pre-operation(T1), 7 days after repair (T2), and at least 6 months after repair (T3).

Hearing loss is a significant risk factor for delays in the spoken language development of children. The purpose of this study was to examine the distribution of articulation errors for English consonants among children with cochlear implants (CIs) who utilise auditory-oral communication. Speech samples from 45 prelingually deafened paediatric CI users were obtained using a single-word picture elicitation task.

Purpose: Currently, maxillary sinus floor (SF) elevation is based on off-the-shelf allogeneic, xenogeneic or synthetic bone augmentation materials (BAM) that are implanted via an open lateral sinus wall approach (OSFE). However, this invasive method is associated with postoperative complications caused by an inadequate blood supply of the alveolar ridge. Balloon-assisted procedures are minimal invasive alternatives with lower complication rates.

ECMO is an advanced technology for extracorporeal respiratory and circulatory support. It involves the extraction of venous blood from the patient's body, which is subsequently oxygenated within an oxygenator (or membrane lung). This oxygen-rich blood is reinfused either into veins or arteries, rapidly compensating for impaired lung and heart functionalities.

Implantable drug delivery systems offer numerous benefits, including effective drug administration at lower concentrations, fewer side effects, and improved patient compliance. Various polymers are used for fabricating implants, with biopolymers, particularly polysaccharides, being notable for their ability to modulate drug delivery characteristics. The review aims to describe the strategies employed in the development of polysaccharide-based implants and provide a comprehensive understanding of various polysaccharides such as starch, cellulose, alginate, chitosan, pullulan, carrageenan, dextran, hyaluronic acid, agar, pectin, and gellan gum in the fabrication of implant for targeted therapy.

Background: Facial implants have emerged as pivotal tools for both reconstructive and aesthetic skull bone augmentation. Contemporary manufacturing techniques, such as computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) systems, have revolutionized facial implants production, providing the advantages of high-level individualization. However, the absence of standardized facial measurements complicates the ability to accurately compare outcomes across various techniques.

Amputations of the earlobe after a human bite are rare. But when they appear, they present a challenge for the plastic surgeon, due to its reconstruction since the earlobe is anatomically built only from skin and cartilage. In these cases, the retro auricular flap represents a perfect solution for reconstruction.

Purpose: The objective of the present study is to investigate nasal and oral vowel production in French-speaking children with cochlear implants (CIs) and children with typical hearing (TH). Vowel nasality relies primarily on acoustic cues that may be less effectively transmitted by the implant. The study investigates how children with CIs manage to produce these segments in French, a language with contrastive vowel nasalization.

Mini-implant-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) offers a non-surgical alternative for expanding the basal bone, increasing skeletal effects while minimizing undesirable dental side effects. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluate the effectiveness of MARPE in terms of transverse skeletal development, dentoalveolar changes, and periodontal effects, with consideration of appliance design. A review was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and Springer, covering studies published between 2005 and 2024.
