[Non-ischemic tumor enucleation for renal angiomyolipoma: a case report].

A case of renal angiomyolipoma, successfully treated with non-ischemic tumor enucleation, is reported. A 16-year-old Japanese female visited another hospital with a chief complaint of general fatigue. She was diagnosed with angiomyolipoma of the right kidney, 7 cm in the long axis, which developed exteriorly at the lower pole.

Malignant epithelial tumor of unknown origin of the broad ligament.

Malignant epithelial tumor of the broad ligament is rare and to our knowledge only 17 cases have been reported. We report a 54-year-old Japanese woman in whom transvaginal sonography (TVS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a left adnexal tumor. Serum CA125 was elevated to 10,000 U/ml.

Growing teratoma syndrome after chemotherapy for a mixed germ cell tumor of the ovary.

Renal arteriovenous fistula developing after tumor enucleation using a microwave tissue coagulator.

With the increase in detection of incidental renal cell carcinoma, nephron-sparing surgery for small renal cell carcinomas is now recognized as one of the surgical options. We report a case of renal arteriovenous fistula developing after non-ischemic tumor enucleation of a small renal cell carcinoma using a microwave tissue coagulator. A 50-year-old Japanese man presented with right flank pain and gross hematuria.

[A complete response persisting for twelve months with the use of TS-1 in a patient with paraaortic lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer].

A 74-year-old female patient underwent total gastrectomy, splenectomy and D2 lymph node dissection for gastric cancer with non-dissectible paraaortic lymph node metastasis. Pathological examination revealed a high level of metastasis of dissected lymph nodes. The patient received daily oral administration of 100 mg TS-1, a novel oral anticancer agent.

[Screening methods in the detection of bladder cancer: comparison of nuclear matrix protein-22, bladder tumor antigen and cytological examinations].

We evaluated the utility of urinary parameters (Nuclear Matrix Protein-22: NMP-22, Bladder Tumor Antigen: BTA, and cytological examinations) for the diagnosis or post-therapeutic monitoring of bladder cancer. Thirty one tumor-bearing cases including 19 fresh cases and 40 tumor-free cases, were subjects of this study. Using identical voided urine samples, NMP-22, BTA and urinary cytology were examined.

Balloon catheter-assisted endoscopic sclerotherapy for gastric fundal varices using alpha-cyanoacrylate monomer.

We present two patients with bleeding episodes from gastric fundal varices. The gastric fundal varices were treated by balloon catheter-assisted endoscopic sclerotherapy using alpha-cyanoacrylate monomer. The varices were successfully obliterated with no complications or hemodynamic changes to the gastrorenal shunts.

Background: Microvascular thrombosis in the kidney plays an important role in the pathogenesis of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Tissue factor (TF), present on the vascular surface of endothelial cells, binds factor VIIa. The complex initiates the coagulating cascade by activating factors X and IX.

We preliminarily studied screening for prostatic diseases in one-day total health check-up by employing prostate specific antigen (PSA), international prostate symptom score (IPSS) and quality of life (QOL) index. From January 6 to March 31, 1998, a total of 390 men were included in this study, whose age ranged from 50 to 78 years with the mean of 57.5 years.

Magnetic resonance angiography for monitoring prophylactic endoscopic treatment of high risk esophageal varices.

Background And Study Aims: Endoscopic injection sclerotherapy (EIS) and endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) are used worldwide as the treatment for esophageal varices. We evaluated portal hemodynamics using magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) in these two forms of treatment.

Patients And Methods: The study was carried out in 50 cirrhotic patients.

A 69-year-old woman developed paraplegia and hypesthesia on upper extremities and below T4 level. Examination of cerebrospinal fluid showed increased protein levels and pleocytosis. MRI of the cervical spinal cord revealed syrinx formation from C3 to upper thoracic cord.

Diagnostic usefulness of endorectal magnetic resonance imaging with dynamic contrast-enhancement in patients with localized prostate cancer: mapping studies with biopsy specimens.

Background: New diagnostic criteria for dynamic magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in prostate cancer are presented. The diagnostic usefulness of endorectal MR imaging with dynamic contrast-enhancement in localized prostate cancer and the validity of these criteria were evaluated.

Methods: Eighteen untreated patients who were suspected of localized prostate cancer were included in the study.

Percutaneous renal biopsy in children: survey of pediatric nephrologists in Japan.

Between 1996 and 1997, 2,045 percutaneous renal biopsies were performed on native kidneys in 2,013 patients in pediatric nephrology units in Japan. Of these, 50.8% were performed by automated needle biopsy gun under ultrasound guidance, and the standard biopsy needle, Tru-cut needle or Vim-Silverman needle, under fluoroscopic guidance was used in 12.

Primary malignant melanoma of the female urethra: a case report.

A case of primary malignant melanoma of the female urethra is presented. A 65-year-old Japanese woman was referred with dysuria and urethral bleeding. A hemorrhagic blue-black tumor, 3 cm in diameter, was diagnosed as a malignant melanoma by urinary cytology and biopsy.
